Overview
See the Colosseum through the eyes of gladiators with this tour that gives you entry through the Gladiator Gate. Bypassing the long lines that often snake around the ancient stadium, just step inside, straight onto the arena floor. Walk where the gladiatorial games once took place, as you learn the stadium’s history and then visit the ruins of Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum.
What to Expect
With your skip-the-line ticket in hand, follow your guide inside the Colosseum via a special side gate that opens onto the arena floor.

Stepping straight into the footsteps of the gladiators, walk around the arena floor itself, an area that’s normally out of bounds on standard Colosseum tours. As you learn the stadium’s history through tales of gladiators, wild beasts, and emperors, explore the first tier and visit a vantage point to gaze down at the Roman Forum.

Continue your tour outside the amphitheater with a stroll to Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. Learn about daily life in the days of Imperial Rome, and discover the history that harks back to the ruins’ glory days.

Your tour ends after the Roman Forum visit.

Worth doing

We did the gladiator gate and arena floor special access colosseum tour a few days ago. Our guide was Michael. He was a great guide who took the time to explain things in detail, while quietly moving the group along. There was about 8 of...More

Spend the extra and visit the dungeons and arena floor

We bought tickets outside the Colosseum, and bought the more expensive option which included entrance to the underground parts of the amphitheatre. Entrance was faster, and the underground areas provide a very special insight into life for the Gladiators. After this the tour continues to...More

This was the first time that I’ve ever done a guided tour and was incredible. I’ve told our family, and just today my coworkers, about what a great decision it was to do one. It was so worth it. Felix was truly excellent. I am...More

Gladiator Gate Arena Floor Tour.

Booked spontaneously on the evening, however good to see paperwork all printed and names correct. The meeting place is used by multiple guides and as this was booked via trip advisor it was unclear who we were actually touring with. However guides sorted it so...More

Yes I believe it does. We went on this tour a couple of weeks ago, and had to pay no additional charges. It is well worth paying the extra for the tout that includes the Colosseum dungeons.

No, the upper floors are closed for renovation. You can only go so far. The bottom (aka ground level) was not accessible either due to rain.

Yes, dead easy. Each ground floor arch of the Colosseum is numbered in Roman numerals above the arch. Stand with your back to number 30/31 (xxx/xxxi). Look up across the road and there is a road going straight up, don't know... More
