Overview
Discover the Pantheon and the Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva on a Rome walking tour. Laced with intrigue and architectural delight, the two monuments are surprisingly sidelined by many guidebooks. Hear their history from a local guide, and stumble upon Michelangelo sculptures, the tomb of Raphael, and the world’s largest unsupported dome as you explore. Historical reconstructions and multimedia props complete the experience.
What to Expect
From Piazza della Minerva in Rome, stroll with your guide to the Pantheon. The temple is widely said to be one of Ancient Rome’s best-preserved monuments; hear its history as you explore inside with your guide.

Gaze up at the huge dome, which has no visible vaults or arches to support it, and learn about the architectural achievement from your guide. Tear your eyes away from the open-air oculus, which illuminates the interior and rest them on the tombs of Rome’s bygone VIPs: The likes of Raphael and Queen Margherita were laid to rest in the Pantheon.

From the ancient temple, walk across to the Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, a Gothic masterpiece built on top of pagan temples. Sculptures by Michelangelo and Bernini, 15th-century frescoes, and a Fra Angelico altar are just a few of the highlights.

Your tour ends at the basilica.

Great guide!

I did this tour with my two teenagers, and everyone enjoyed it. It isn't too long, and you hear a lot of interesting facts about the structure and history of the Pantheon. Our guide was bright and engaging, and her English was excellent.

Take this tour

You must see the Pantheon when in Rome! It is ancient, relatively contemporaneous to the Colosseum, but not a ruin because it became a church. Though it is a free venue, a guide is truly indispensable for all of the details that would otherwise be...More

Pantheon

Free admission to an architectural icon? That was just the icing on the cake visiting the Pantheon. I toured without a guide and was completely satisfied with my visit. We arrived at 6pm when the crowd had thinned a bit. I had adequate time to...More

A favourite example of Ancient Roman history

A spectacular piece of Roman achitecture with a dome and floor that will leave you awe struck. The dome has an open centre that permits rain water to enter and land on the floor below where it drains from holes in the tiles to the...More

We would have missed a lot if we went without a gude. Our guide Claudia was very plesant, informative and even though the cue for Pantheon was quite long, the whole tour just flew by. For some reason, only two of us booked the tour...More
