    Great time and tour
We took the this tour on June 6, 2024 from our cruise with Royal Caribbean. Our guide, Christen, did a great job explaining what we needed to do and the history of Civitavecchia and Rome prior to arriving in Rome. Our driver was great too! We had a great time and will definitely recommend this tour to others taking this cruise or just visiting Rome.

    Meh. Wasn't really impressed.
Hop on and hop off sounds easy enough. I don't think we used the 72 hour ticket to really warrant buying it. It says it stops off at the major touring spots. Not really. There is still a great deal of walking to get to the sights from each bus stop and I was under the impression they ran every 15 minutes or so. Not really. We waited way over 30 minutes for one stop and there is nowhere to sit to wait for the bus. The map of the stops was a little difficult to follow too. The times we did use it, the buses were clean and the air conditioning was refreshing when it was a hot day. There were times we found that for about 10 euros we could get a taxi from our hotel to the sight we were going to much easier than dealing with the bus.

    Misleading and disappointing
The red line hop on hop off was a great way to get around. This tour - purple line “Appian way” - was a complete disappointment. We rode to the catacombs. Waited for our tour time. Waited and waited after the tour for our driver and nothing else. There was no audio guide on the van and we saw NOTHING at all on f the Appian way. The photos and description are misleading. This is ONLY a catacomb tour!

    Excellent & informative
A fun & educational way to explore Rome. Best to sit upstairs to get the full scenic benefit. The commentary available via personal earphones (supplied by the tour operators) , is informative & well done. My only negative comment is that when lining up & waiting for buses, the lines aren’t monitored so rude unscrupulous people, jump the queue & aren’t held to task by the people in charge.

    An informative tour of Rome.
The Big Bus Tour was a positive experience. It showed up on time. The auditory experience was excellent. It had the 3 people taking constantly. It was very informative and entertaining. It was like night and day compared to the other company we used. Would recommend Big Bus in Rome.

    Rip-off! Do not purchase!!!
This is a rip-off. My husband and I paid 90 € for two 72-hour passes. We were told the pass included three different bus services--the Big Bus, a yellow bus and a pink bus. We literally have been able to find two stops for the Big Bus only. Stops for the other lines are not marked. We used the Big Bus twice on Friday, but on Saturday, we walked for a couple of miles, looking for a yellow bus stop. When we went back to the kiosk near the Coliseum where we bought the ticket, the attendant told us the pass was really meant for the Big Bus, and that other stops weren't marked. Further, he refused to refund any portion of our purchase. Also, this is not a true hop-on-hop-off bus. The driver only stops at designated spots that may be a great distance from where you want to be. Do not try to use this as transportation. Use a taxi, city bus, or metro instead, and watch out for pickpockets on mass transit.

    Terrible
Booked the open top night tour. They oversold the tickets so there was no room upstairs. No different to riding a normal bus. To make matters worse once your on they will not let you off! Avoid.

Poor tour really consider if you want to spend your money
Hard to get on Slow at each stop overbooked and forget about managing to get the night tour booked out for days Cannot really see much from it - ok if you want a bit of transport around town and commentary ok but sometimes out of sync

Avoid at all costs - shocking service
Worst experience ever Waited an hour and 15 minutes and then to be herded into an already full bus and wait for even more time Now been an hour and a half and we haven’t moved. They say every 7-9 minutes but they will only move when the bus is full Organisation is utterly chaotic

    So worth it!!
Did the 8:30 pm tour. Was so worth it! It was a warm evening so the top was down which really added to the event! I’m so glad we did the tour, saw places we hadn’t had the time to visit.

Not sure on prices as my partner booked it. There are a few hop on hop off bus options so you may wish to look into the best for you. We booked a 2 day hop on hop off. We got the bus from Termini which was convenient and located just outside at the front of the station. The tour is more than worth it and also a simple way to get around to see the sights/easily get round the city. There were free walking tours included in our package but we didn’t end up using/needing them. The information via the earphones is worth listening to, especially as you’re near the sites. For the Coliseum, I would recommend getting your ticket for this (which also included Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum) from the bus staff/those in marked uniforms/jackets near the stops. Not sure if we got a deal but it cost us €50 for two which seemed cheaper than what we had seemed advertised and was worth it. For the coliseum you get in a queue for those already with tickets. I would also recommend walking round the outside as it’s stunning to just see. For Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, you queue in a security line just to the left of the coliseum, which you can only go in when you have a ticket. We were there in February and don’t be put off by the length of the queue, it does move quite quickly. Be wary as a Brit though, people do try and push in especially group bookings as you get near who are let in right near the scanners. Palatine Hill and Roman Forum are worth the walk around and up those steps, absolutely stunning.

We use these tours on every city break we take as it's the best way to see a new city and this one was once again & the best way to see Rome. We booked the 3 day deluxe tour, which included the tour to the catacombs & the night tour & it was worth every penny. The stops are dotted all around the city and they literally take you to everywhere you need to go in Rome with constant commentary on everything that you're seeing. The buses are regular & arrive every hour with friendly staff who offer you other tours at a discounted rate. We bought tickets to the Vatican which saved us both money & time. Thoroughly recommended, this is the best way to see Rome & learn as you go.

Big Bus Rome is a very well-organized service which we recommend wholeheartedly! Its 3 different routes (Red, Purple and the fantastic Night Tour) are an excellent introduction to this most beautiful of cities. We used all 3 routes early on during our stay in Rome to get ourselves oriented, and it worked very well.

The buses are punctual and frequent (every 20 mins on the Red line), staff were very helpful, audio commentary was informative, mobile app was accurate and easy to use. Very much appreciated - Thank you Big Bus Rome!

We had the 3-day Deluxe ticket which allowed us access to both lines of the tour as well as enough time to decide where we'd like to hop on and off! The bus went to all the important sites in the city and also gave us the option of a night tour. We enjoyed it thoroughly and took advantage of the stops near our hotel. Everyone should do this, even if they've scheduled other tours inside sites.

We usually like taking a hop on hop off bus tour to get a feel for a new city, listen to the guide and decide where we want to go back and visit. We usually book the 48hr or 72hr tickets since it provides free transportation to all the sites you want to see.

I think the challenge with a city like Rome are multiple. For starters stops are pretty far from the attractions, so you'll have to walk to everything you want to see anyways. Second traffic and streets in Rome are an adventure (not the fun kind) so taking the bus is often slower than walking.

This is universally applicable to all bus tour operators I would say.

For Big Bus specifically, we were told we'd be able to catch busses every 15min but it was more like every 30-45min. There was a lot of time standing around (despite an app that provided inaccurate bus arrival times). Please note we were visiting Rome during its slow season.

Finally, the audio tour that is provided is quite basic and the elevator music between historical comments painful at times.

If you're adamant about taking a hop on hop off bus tour I would likely recommend a 24 pass since I'm not sure getting on and sitting through stops to get to the ones you want is efficient or worth while.

I also think Big Bus may be the best offer out there since you can ride on its companion tour, giving you access to more busses.

For the €32 per person that we paid, the tour was nothing to write home about.
We were supposed to be able to listen to the guide on our smartphones and were asked to download an app which then didn't work and we were forced to listen to the audio through the bus system.
Tour basically consisted of a rapid drive through the city's main thoroughfares with little opportunity for photography (unless you got off the bus).

Dear Customer, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear our service did not meet your expectation, we would like just to highlight that our service provide only audio guide on the bus you can listen to though the earphones we offer and that your Classic ticket allows you to hop-on hop-off the bus at your leisure for 24 hours and also to enjoy 4 different Walking Tours that help to discover beautiful areas of Rome. This can justify the price and we hope you will be able to give us another chance in the future. Best regards Big Bus Team

Sadly I’ve had a disgusting experience with this company. Myself and my young family were only allowed to travel two stops over the whole day before being thrown off because despite having a valid ticket, which cost over €113 and was bought on the same day (dated), I misplaced the receipt we were given when we first got on the bus. Disgusting. Spoilt our day and special weekend in Rome. Please avoid, there are other companies out there with more compassion.

Dear Customer, As previously informed the policy states that customers need to keep safe the ticket in order to get on board as it is the only proof with timings and expiration date. Despite this we anyway offered a partial refund as good gesture. Best regards Big Bus Team

The first thing you should do to understand the various sites and geography of Rome is take the complete ride with Big Bus and take notes. Once you know the distances and various attractions at different stops - plan your visits to each location / attraction for the next two days! Worth every penny ..

Don’t miss their free walking tours included in the Deluxe Ticket. Taking the three day deluxe ticket is peace of mind - it can always save some money on taxi or Uber for you once you know where you are in relation to your hotel ..

Good price and the 8 stops covered all the main sites but there seemed to be less buses on the circuit than other providers who stop at same stops. we had to wait 20 mins for the first bus and then it was extremely busy with people. They need another bus on the circuit and then this will make them just as fast as the other hop on hop off buses and gain better reviews. Otherwise all good!

I have done a few of these in other European cities and sadly this was the worst. We were there for the Italy v England six nations game. Clearly demand has reduced significantly for these tours due to COVID19 with the buses only running every 25 minutes. I arrived a little early for the first bus of the day on the Saturday and at advertised departure time, there still wasn’t anyone around. Someone else from the company turned up and tried to contact whoever should have been there. There is a partnership with another company but there isn’t any printed information on their timing and when I asked, this isn’t shown on the app either. We ended up getting a mid-morning departure and everyone stayed on the bus until the penultimate stop as there weee so many people at each stop trying, unsuccessfully to get on the bus, there was a fear that if you left the bus you’d never get a seat again…. Somewhat against the hop on / hop off concept. We could have had a taxi for significantly less money and the taxi drivers we encountered were very knowledgeable regarding the main attractions of the city. The added frustration was that despite the tour clearly being oversold for the day, touts were everywhere trying to sell additional tickets.
