I suggest you contact the Operator. We went on this tour at 9 AM from the Piazza Navona. Remember that this is a Small Group Tour so is subject to cancellation if not enough sign up or subject to sell out.

This Tour is not a single Site but a Walking Tour to many different ones; the Excavation under the French Embassy, the History behind the City of Water Exhibit (underneath the Dior-Gucci-Jimmy Choo Perfume stores), the Excavation under the Film Museum, and others. Anyway, some of these places are not Government-sponsored but are Private so there are Entrance Fee(s).

Most of the Underground Tour is through well-excavated areas reinforced areas for obvious safety reasons - they don't want Tourists to get hurt crawling around an unsafe "archaeological" site - so there will be no footing problems on unsafe walkways. To your question about height - most of the Tour has 12 to 25 ft. ceilings however one part (under the French Embassy) there are two low archways and the pathway going to the endpoint of the excavation is under 5 ft. high - but it is only about 10-12 ft. along this pathway. As you may already know, the Romans were big people compared to other ancient civilizations.

This Tour goes inside the Pantheon (and its very informative) and not underneath - which is where the drainage is, not a good idea - but the true features of the Tour is when you go underneath the French Consulate (their own excavation) and others where you see the "profile" of Rome - how they have built Rome in levels throughout the centuries and, like rings of a tree, you can see the dramatic advances and declines (effects of floods, wars, droughts, fires) on Rome. Fascinating stuff!

I think - NO. The information in audio guide is more like a lecture. The visualization is too pure for children, you must have some previous background like complete school history course and must have good memory for dates and be very concentrated while listening in order to understand what this piece of rock means.
