What to expect
Itinerary for Monday-Saturday tours: Meet your guide and walk to the Campo de' Fiori, site of a popular morning food market (afternoon tours experience the relaxed atmosphere of this lovely piazza even without the market in full swing). Talk with some of the vendors, find out what's for sale and sample some of the goodies. Learn how the Romans do their grocery shopping. Sample local specialties, including pizza bianca (pizza without tomato sauce), fresh mozzarella cheese, cured meats, pasta and gelato. Learn about the history of the area still known as the Jewish Ghetto. Hear about its status as a destination for food lovers in modern Rome. Visit Piazza delle Cinque Scole, stopping in shops for samples of things like fried artichokes, codfish and fried balls of risotto known as 'suppli.' Continue on to the historic Trastevere neighborhood. Walk along streets lined with art galleries and vintage boutiques as your guide talks about this area's beloved cafes and bars. Taste some traditional Roman dishes. Itinerary for Sunday tours: Go to an Organic Market that is managed by the farmers whose goods are for sale inside. Enjoy a walk through little-known parts of Rome to visit the Jewish Ghetto and then the Trastevere neighborhood. Sample local specialties along the way as you learn about traditional Roman cuisine from your knowledgeable guide. Please note: Sunday is the day when many shops are closed in Rome.

Amazing food tour
Dec 2019
Clelia our guide was really friendly and very knowledgeable. We went to the most amazing restaurants and the most brilliant grocery shop. The food was fabulous, we went to areas that we may not have found ourselves and the whole experience was a fun packed afternoon. A real highlight of our trip.

Great Food and Interesting Neighborhoods
Nov 2019
We've taken food tours before and thought this would be fun. It didn't disappoint. We never expected to eat soooo much! Great selection of food and we got to walk thru the Jewish Quarter and Trastevere which we would not have done. A great way to spend 3.5 hours. I highly recommend it.

Perfect mix of tasting and history
Dec 2019 • Friends
My sister and I had a charming excursion with Claudio! His enthusiasm for good Roman cuisine is matched by his knowledge of Rome and the rich history of the neighborhoods we explored. We were lucky enough to have a small tour, just us, and no question was beyond the bounds of Claudio’s curiosity. It was a great morning a perfect antidote to the tourist crush of other sites.

Yummy Taste of Rome, Italy
Aug 2019
Our tour was great; Antonia took us all around to taste so many different dishes. Pizza, cheeses, different meats. Some Dolmades- stuffed grape leaves were so good; we had some Bougatsa filled with spinach!!!! All so good!!! Antonia was a world of knowledge!!!!

Outstanding Experience!
Jun 2019 • Couples
What a great way to literally acquire the many flavors of Rome. As we casually strolled the streets of Rome, we stopped at a number of unique, diverse food establishments to sample everything from cheeses, meats, pastries, pastas, and other tasty treats. It was extremely interesting, and a great way to spend half the day. We ended up being in a small group of six people who were very compatible, which made the experience even better. Our guide for this trip, Antonia, was absolutely wonderful! Everything about the way she conducted the tour was perfect! Grazie Antonia! I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in this type of activity....

Small-Group Rome Food Walking Tour Trastevere Campo de'Fiori and Jewish Ghetto
May 2019 • Couples
My husband and I landed in Rome, checked into our hotel, and headed straight to this tour. Martina M. was our guide and couldnot have been more pleasant. Her friendliness and easy smile put everyone at ease and promoted camaraderie.
The walk was light and gentle and interesting areas and facts were made known to the group along the way.
We had been traveling for 24 hours and were very hungry. I was wondering if I was going to get enough. By the third stop I knew the was not going to a problem.

The photo is from the first stop. It was a cute fresh deli that has been in business for 100+ years and three generations. The course was meat and two cheeses. They tell you everything is more fresh in Italy, but you really have to experience it for yourself!

Next stop Pizzaria! Crust and Sauce and Cheese in symphony.

Third stop was a small cafe where we had zucchini blossoms and a mozzerella stick surrounded with cooked rice with tomato sauce that is deep fried. Both were delicious.

The fourth stop was a pasta place where we could choose from three and it came with white and red wine and fresh bread. Martina wanted to know what Italian wine Americans drink most and sparked some good conversation!

The explanations given by Martina were interesting and she engaged members of our group so we could also get to know one another a bit. She included history, local nuances and incredible knowledge of food and wine.

It was a perfect thing to do our first day in Rome!

Interesting.
Our guide was lovely. It was her first tour - probably better if she had not told us!! Only 11 people but it was difficult because people kept wandering off and doing their own thing. So we were always having to wait for people. We were taken to places I did not know about so, from that point, it was interesting. And we tried foods I had read about but had not tried. The written description of the tour did not necessarily match with what we did and where we went and there was no explanation as to why. Had high hopes for a great experience but I was left disappointed. As I said, our guide was lovely but I think the actual tour can be improved.

Ilaria was our tour guide. Every place we visited along the way, the owners/managers of the establishment raved about how she is everyone's favorite tour guide. They were right! She didn't disappoint.

My husband and I own restaurants in the US so we consider ourselves foodies. We learned so much during our time with Ilaria that we wished we would have been in Rome on the first part of our trip so we could gain a better understanding of all the different specialties in each region of Italy and how they came to be so that we knew what items to order during our travels and how to tell the authentic food from the knockoffs. She had a passion for the history of Italian food and a deep appreciation for its quality. There is no settling for anything but the best with Ilaria!

We started in Campo de ‘Fiori’, where we learned about the people selling products at the market. The history of the square and how it got its name. We sampled different years of balsamic to taste the difference in the aging. We then ventured to the Jewish Ghetto to try Suppli and where we were taught about the start of the Jewish Ghetto, how they cooked and why they cooked the foods that this area is known for in today’s society. Our last stop was in Trastevere for pasta and authentic gelato. Trust me when I say authentic. You can tell the difference!

Following our trip, we were sent an email with all the places that Ilaria recommends in each part of Italy in case your travels took you outside of Rome. There were also recipes included.

My husband and I actually went back to a few of the places because we loved them so much! I’ve already recommended this tour to a few of my friends.
