- FarAway289755858820 contributionsFantastic TourOur guide Emanuele was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and personable which made our tour very enjoyable :) We had a great time - the tour was well organised, easy to find and not too large of a group size so easy to stay together throughout the tour. Highly recommend!!Written September 9, 2024
- mpsegan530 contributionsA good tourA good way to see some of Rome's main famous sights. The audio on bus was helpful and detailed. The frequent stops made it easy to see all sightsWritten September 8, 2024
- Dream080926764150 contributionsBus tour to Pompeii from RomeExcellent tour. Well-organized and great and clear info by our tour leader Samuele. My husband and I enjoyed the 4 hours we had to self-explore Pompeii archeological park. A note about the bus: it was very comfortable with enough legroom for my 6 ft 3 (193 cm) husband). Booking was easy and confirmation came through fast. I also ended up contacting Gray Line Rome with a question, and received a prompt response from Gian Marco. Excellent experience.Written September 8, 2024
- Dream080926764150 contributionsAmalfi & Positano day trip from Rome by train and ferryAmazing day trip to the Amalfi coast by high-speed train to Salerno and ferry. Our tour leader, Anto, was excellent. She gave clear information and great suggestions on how best to spend our free time in Positano and Amalfi. She also made sure our group had the best seats possible on the ferry out of Salerno for the best views of the Amalfi coast. My husband and I had a great experience. Booking was easy and confirmation came through really fast. Gray Line Rome customer service is excellent. Gian Marco responded quickly to our questions about the tour.Written September 8, 2024
- Tourist333280022840 contributionsAmazing tour of the coliseum, Palatine Hill & ForumAbsolutely amazing experience, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He looked after the whole group going at the pace all of us could cope with, encouraging everyone to drink water. The tour was approximately four hours starting with the coliseum. We went straight in whereas the other queues were really long and in the heat. We had plenty of time in the coliseum and then we made our way to Palatine hill and had glorious views of the coliseum and the forum. Finally finishing in the forum where we could stay as long as we wanted. Thank you 🙏🏽Written September 8, 2024
- Tourist333280022840 contributionsA brilliant experience with a wonderful guideAn amazing experience, the guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He showed us the main things to see in the first three hours, which was very helpful because the Vatican museums are so big. We were able to skip the line for entry into everything which was amazing. Then he left us at St Peter’s Basilica where we were lucky enough to attend mass and take our time sightseeing for the rest of the afternoon. Would highly recommend as the queues are huge and the museums vast to navigate on your own. Thank you Tahani 🙏🏽Written September 8, 2024
- Quest089761688150 contributionsDisappointed! We couldn't understand the tour guide's English at all (English speaking tour) which made for a long day of wandering around and not learning anything about what we were there to explore and enjoy, it was very disappointing!Written September 6, 2024

- 677mikaela0 contributionsAwesome guideThis was money well spent. Colosseum is of course an amazing construction, with a guide we got a better understanding what it was like. The only thing I missed about this tour is that we did not get to walk in the basement Our guide Barbie was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and had the patience to answer all questions asked.Written September 5, 2024
- ashleymG5940JR0 contributionsSuperb! Incredibly kind and educated tour guides. Skipping lines is also KEY!SUPERB! We did Colosseum one day and Vatican the next. Both of our female tour guides were superb. I wish I remembered their names! FABULOUS! AMAZING! HIGHLY recommend. THANK YOU!Written September 4, 2024
- JIM M0 contributionsI commend the driver for navigating a torrential downpour with professionalism. Could not hear anything over the rainTorrential downpour ruined the experience however it was nobody’s fault. Even with cover on top deck we still were soakedWritten September 4, 2024
- 808viviennei0 contributionsGreat way to see Rome! This was a good experience for us, however, we had difficulty finding the Trevi fountain because no instructions were given as to Wether to go after exciting the bus. When we first boarded, we were handed head phones but no map so we had to rely on google to get there and it wasn't that easy. Otherwise, it was a great for and a really good way to see a lot of Rome. We went around once without getting off and then got on and off at different stops on the 2nd circuit.Written September 3, 2024

Visited Hadrian’s Villa and Tivoli Gardens with guide Monica.
After reading many trip adviser reviews of the guides and their presentations, my wife and I got the clunker.
Because of Monicas heavy Italian accent, i couldn't understand her with the whisperer or speaking directly to her. Monica seemed to know a lot about each place, but couldn't communicate her knowledge. She never smiled or tried to be amusing.
The 5 hour excursion provided enough time to visit Hadrian’s Villa but limited the time to explore the majestic Tivoli Gardens.
Good luck getting the right guide assigned to you!

I took a wonderful half day tour of Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este today. Our guide Claudia was great...exceptionally knowledgeable and fluent in both English and French. Since I speak both, I got the commentary in “stereo”. The small motor coach is comfortable for the 30 minutes each way drive...two seats on one side and single seat on the other. We had ample time to tour both villas, and even grab an ice cream before the ride back to Rome. The pick up is conveniently located in front of the Diocletian Baths fronting on Piazza de Republica, and an easy walk from the main train station.

Pickup at the hotel was confirmed for “7:30-7:45,” for which I needed the assistance of my hotel desk clerk because the phone number on my printed ticket was missing a zero. I was still standing outside my hotel at 8:15, and was just going to call when the driver came around the corner on foot. I had reserved and prepaid for 2, but the girlfriend had decided to skip this one (I had tried to get a refund, but the tour operator - the same one who confirmed my hotel pickup - told me I would need to go to Viator) The driver asked if there was a second member of my party, and I said, “No, she is not coming. It is just me.” so he put me in the van and then waited another 10 minutes before asking me again if my wife was coming soon. I said, again, “No, it is only me,” and we drove on...to pick up another couple of ladies who must have been wondering where the driver had been. This was in a small van, and I thought, “Small tour! Cool!”
We were driven to the Piazza Republica, near the Termini station, where regular large tour busses were waiting. Regular busses, with two seats on each side of a center aisle.
The bus was about half full. There were two guides - Claudia, who gave the tour in French and Italian, and Marco, who covered Spanish and English.
The information was okay, but listening to everything being repeated was tedious. The listening devices were horrible - Marco’s voice cut out whenever he turned his back, or whenever somebody passed between his transmitter and my receiver, or whenever he went around a corner. When I mentioned this to Marco, he said that it was probably a problem with his transmitter and he would change it. At the Villa d’Este I had had quite enough, and decided to just skip the audio portion.
Both of these sites are fascinating, and well worth a day trip from Rome. The ruins of Hadrian’s villa are romantic and epic, albeit ruins, and the site is enchanting. The Villa d’Este itself is meh (we were there on a Saturday, and so were a couple dozen shrieking children) but the Tivoli Gardens are pure magic.
The tour left us back at Termini station, and I had a nice walk back to my hotel.
This tour was a convenient ride to both sites, but if the gf had come she would have murdered me - better to hire a car and driver for the day, if either of you loses patience waiting for twenty other people to use the toilet.

can we sign up w/o the car service? we have a rental car and would prefer to meet the guide in Tivoli.

My particular tour was run by a Greyhound bus affiliate, so my guess is “no”. But I recommend you ask them the question.
