Highlights
Admire the Sistine Chapel without getting jostled by crowds thanks to early access

Save time with priority access to St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Forum
Semi-private tour limited to six means you won't miss a word of your guide’s commentary
What to expect
Get up early to meet your knowledgeable guide at the Vatican Museums. After all, you’re getting a peek at the Sistine Chapel that day before anyone else does. Take some time to enjoy the frescos that Michelangelo masterfully painted. Note the different styles — from Renaissance to Mannerism — in the ceiling frescos and The Last Judgement fresco on the back wall. Spend a full hour taking in the masterpiece paintings. From here, explore the art-loaded halls of the Vatican Museums, gawking at the Raphael Rooms, the Gallery of Tapestries and the Gallery of Maps, enjoying the priceless art collection that centuries of popes amassed. Then visit amazing St. Peter’s Basilica, its dome designed by Michelangelo. And don’t miss the artist’s other masterpiece: his sculpture La Pietà just inside the door. After riding in a taxi through the city’s historical center, indulge in the Pantheon, arguably the best preserved structure from ancient Roman times. Stroll through the narrow lanes to the Trevi Fountain, the dramatic fountain that is famed for visitors throwing a coin in it. Break for lunch (at own expense) and then travel to the Colosseum. Aside from seeing such a wonder up close, one great aspect of the tour is that you get to skip the long line and stroll right in. Descend to the underground level, open only to a small number of people daily and be sure to check out the dungeons where gladiators would prepare for their fights against exotic beasts. On the arena floor, listen to your guide recount the details about the gruesome battles that would take place here. Finally, ascend to the upper tier of the structure to get a great view of the entire Colosseum. After, walk up to nearby Palatine Hill, once home to ancient Rome’s elite (and where the word ‘palace’ comes from) to gawk at more ruins before the tour ends. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.

Additional information
Confirmation will be received at time of booking
Please be aware, due to these unprecedented times and unexpected regulation changes, some areas may not be accessible if the venue can not guarantee social distancing for this part of the tour.
The colosseum currently guarantees special access to the arena floor which is off limits to the general public. The arena area is where the gladiator fights took place and also gives you the closest view of the underground area possible
Due to extreme weather conditions, the Colosseum Administration may limit access to some or all of the restricted areas (Colosseum, Arena Level and Third Tier), to ensure security of its visitors. No refund will be granted on these rare occasions.
It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes. Knees and shoulders must be covered in order to enter places of worship.
Occasionally the basilica may be closed due to last minute private events outside of the tour operators control and often without notice. In these uncommon circumstances the tour will operate as usual and the time spent inside the basilica will be enjoyed by an extended tour in an alternate area
UNDERGROUND AND ARENA: The access to the restricted areas of the Colosseum (Underground and Arena) may be shared among other participants in the LivItaly exclusive entry slot. At times, for safety reasons, logistics and traffic control, the group may be led by one guide. This choice is at the complete discretion of the Colosseum's administration and security policy of that day in accordance to adequate safety measures. Please be aware that this is only for 30/40 minutes of the total duration of the tour. Our max 6 people policy is guaranteed for the remainder of the duration of the tour.
GENERAL ENTRY: Please note that for safety reasons the Colosseum can accommodate up to 3000 people at once. This could lead to delays in access to the site, even for pre-booked visitors. Please be on time!
Not wheelchair accessible
Near public transportation
Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
Please note: Due to new health and safety regulations, the Vatican currently opens at 8:30 rather than 8:00am. Despite the later start, our early entrance tour is in all other ways identical to the 7:30am tour. By arriving 30 minutes before Vatican doors open, we get you into the museums first, so you can go directly to the Raphael rooms and the Sistine Chapel before the crowds and enjoy them with as few people as possible.
This tour/activity will have a maximum of 6 travelers

Immerse yourself in the history of Rome
Oct 2019
Our tour guide Dario was incredibly knowledgable about the history of Rome and the Vatican City.
There was something in this tour for everyone in our family.
Dario had a gift of being able to make you feel as if you were touring ancient Rome or watching Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling himself. He brought the history of Rome to life.
Thanks Dario for an awesome day.

Livitaly Private Tour
Aug 2019
Livitaly Private Tour of the Vatican and more with English speaking Giulia was awesome!
It was only my wife and I who were picked up at our hotel and taken to meet Giulia at the Vatican entrance. Giulia was great, she brought her iPad with her to explain what we would be seeing at each location. This way we know what to look for while on the tour. This was very helpful and appreciated because there are Someplace like, The Sistine Chapel where you are not allowed to talk inside. With Giulia showing us on her iPad beforehand, we knew what to look for.
Other locations we visited: Vatican Museum, St Peter’s Basilica, Michelangelo’s frescoes, the Colosseum... which included parts that were restricted to most tours, like the underground chambers, where the wild animals were held. The Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and more. “Ask for Giulia”
Thank you

Dear Dana and Suzanne We're so pleased that you thoroughly enjoyed your full-day Rome tour with Giulia and thank you for taking the time to share your positive comments with us. We encourage our guides to use the images in books and on ipads to help explain better what you are seeing or what you might want to be sure to look for. They are also extremely helpful in places like the ruins to help you see what the venue might have been like in ancient times. It's wonderful to read your appreciation for this extra feature and we thank you on Giulia's behalf for your lovely compliments. Again, many thanks and all best wishes Angelo and Kristin

Best way to see Rome
Aug 2019
As we had only 3 days in Rome, I thought it best to book a tour. I searched on TripAdvisor for the best choice and came up with LivItaly, and it proved to be great decision. We arrived at the Vatican at 7:30 to meet with Dario and 3 others. Dario was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Getting there early, while hard to do, was the best thing. We were able to walk around and get closer to pieces than if we had gone later. Dario was funny and warm and pointed out interesting facts that I didn’t know. He then led us to the next stop where we met with Florin, who drove us to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Spanish Steps, before dropping us at a restaurant for lunch. From there, our next guide Melanie was waiting outside to bring us to the Colosseum. Melanie was a delight. She is very knowledgeable, funny, and enthusiastic about the subject matter. We met her again the following day for the Golf Cart tour. This was great fun. She took 5 of us to out of the way spots that we would never have seen on our own, while pointing out many things along the way. We stopped for wine, cheese, and San Daniele prosciutto (very tasty and something that I had never tried) at a lovely spot. We all were very pleased with the tour guides and LivItaly.

Dear Terry Many sincere thanks for your lovely review of our efforts to make your short time in Rome as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible. Getting going so that you can take advantage of the early morning entrance to the Vatican museum can be, we know, a bit difficult. But as you pointed out, it certainly is worth being able to tour a good portion of the museum and see the Sistine Chapel before the crowds. Dario is a great guide for this tour and it sounds like he was a perfect "fit" for you. Having Melanie as your guide for the Colosseum and then for the Golf Cart tour was super too. She's an expert on all things roman and is so fun and entertaining while sharing that expertise. We'll be sure to let both guides know how much you enjoyed and appreciated them. Thank you for writing Angelo and Kristin

Amazing Experience Highly Recommend!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Arianna, who was so knowledgeable, kind, fun, and she spoke perfect English! We were blessed with a crystal clear, though quite warm, day. We went into a special entrance into the Colosseum, and also fast line through security to enter the Forum. Book with Livitaly and you’ll be well served, top notch!

Fantastic day in Rome
Jun 2019
We had the pleasure of a day tour of the Vatican and Colosseum with Patrizia. She had excellent knowledge of the sites and was able to share detailed facts that made the locations come alive. She also helped us obtain passes to the Pope's Pentecost Mass which we were unable to get prior to our trip. We highly recommend this tour to anyone!

Patrizia, as you mentioned, knows her "stuff" and we're so happy that she could make it come alive for you. We'll let her know about your lovely review. Thanks Angelo and Kristin

Dear Eric We're so glad you enjoyed spending the day with Dario to see both the Vatican museum and the Colosseum. To have your own guide for the day and to be just a small number of people does indeed make a big difference. Dario is particularly great, we agree, as he really knows his history and art and knows just how to present it to you. We'll be sure to pass on your positive remarks to him. Thank you Angelo and Kristin

Great day
Apr 2019 • Couples
We were in Rome over Easter and only had Saturday (the day before Easter) to do a tour. We met our Guide Daniela in the morning at the Vatican and there were only 4 other people on our tour with us. Daniela was excellent. Very Knowledgeable and friendly. After the Vatican tour she walked with us to meet our driver who transported us to the Colosseum. Driving through the heart Rome, we stopped at sights to include: the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and Trevi fountain.
We were dropped off at the Propaganda Cafe, down the street from the Colosseum to wait for our guide for the second half of the day. We ate a tasty lunch here...it's a little more on the pricey side for lunch, but the food is definitely good.
Maria Helena, our guide for the rest of the day, was super friendly. We joined the rest of the group and the underground tour. There isn't a hole lot to see underground, as work is still being done to renovate it. After, we went quickly to Palatine Hill and walked through the Roman Forum.
If I had more time, I would have done 2 half day tours (one day Vatican and the other day Colosseum)...then you would be able to spend more time at each location.
Nonetheless, Both Daniela and Maria Helena were great guides.

Two terrific tours with LivItaly - highly recommended!
Colosseum Underground Tour with Arena, Palatine Hill & Roman Forum (Wednesday 22 May 2019 at 1.15pm) and Vatican Early Entrance Small Group Tour (Thursday 23 May 2019 at 7.30am). Booking process ✔️ Website ✔️ Meeting point/organisation ✔️ Value for money ✔️✔️ Two of, if not the, best tours we’ve ever done! LivItaly promises are true to the letter - no long cues and only six people in both groups. Having watched all other tour companies attempt to ‘engage’ with and guide 25 or more guests, I am so pleased to have chosen what felt like a virtually private tour. LivItaly guides are like personal guides and their enthusiasm and all important knowledge shines brightly throughout the three hour experiences. In particular, thank you to Tonia (that’s Tonia with an ‘o’, aka Doris!) who is wonderfully engaging and intellectual - we could have listened to her all day. She speaks with such passion. We didn’t want her to leave us at the end of the tour! She masterminded her way through the Vatican experience, showcasing the ‘must sees’ before the crowds took hold. And as the crowds continued to grow, she managed to find the most appropriate spaces to educate us. I hope your grandma enjoys reading this review - it is little wonder she is so very proud of you. It was our pleasure to meet you. So, all in all, book with LivItaly and you will not be disappointed.

Dario's Tour was the highlight of our Italy Trip!
Apr 2019 • Family
We took a 10 day family vacation to Italy, exploring Rome, Florence and Venice. We were only in Rome for 3 days and had to pack a lot into little time since it was Easter Weekend. We booked the semi private day tour which was a 7 hour tour exploring the vatican and the colosseum. Our tour was led by Dario and the entire experience was absolutely fantastic. Dario was friendly, funny, professional and extremely knowledgeable. He knew the answer to every question we asked and provided all the details we needed to really imagine life back in ancient rome. Haven taken other tours in the past, this one really stood out as the best. As we left Rome and toured Florence and Venice my family kept remarking " We need Dario!" The rest of our trip was simply not the same without him. I highly recommend this tour and that you get Dario- he is simply the best!
