About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- edov5950 contributionsAmazing way to see and experience Rome!We had an amazing tour with a red Fiat 500, exploring different parts of Rome. Our guide Francesco did an excellent job, telling us interesting stories about (ancient) Rome and guiding us through the Roman traffic. This Fiat Tour is the best way to explore many different sights in a short time. Don’t miss out on this awesome tour!Written January 4, 2025
- GezundhaitYigal0 contributionsGreat vintage tourExcellent tour. We had a funny and knowledgeable guide named Francesco BTW the old one is fantastic maintained Visited some of the major tourists potsWritten December 14, 2024
- sailorgirl750 contributionsA thrilling, fun ride!!!The trip was SOOO much fun, as our guide Alexis zipped us around the narrow streets of Rome, showing us the sights. Of course, my husband had to be a contortionist to crawl in the back! 😉 As we were riding in a pink "Barbie" car, people kept pointing and waving "ciao," and kids would yell Barbie"." Oh my, what a blast!! Highly recommend when in Rome. 😊Written December 2, 2024
- B6389SNjonathank0 contributionsRoma tourAn excellent surprise for us both especially as one of us owned one back in the day but this time Marco drove us safely through the many almost off piste areas of fascinating Rome and we drew on his knowledge and love of this intriguing historic and beautiful city. Fully recommended. Pamela & JonathanWritten November 24, 2024
- 462lux0 contributionsSpecial Experience providing the flavor of RomeThe guide provided an informative tour of the city he knows and loves. Every stop provided an impromptu photo shoot of the car as all tourist liked. The driving tour with stops gave a view of the city in a way I never had in previous visits. It is money well spent.Written November 12, 2024

In leading up to our trip to Rome what better way than to see the stunning ancient city than by stylish vintage Italian ways… Alex our incredible guide/driver gave us an Authentic, fun , funny English speaking view of the incredible city…. Alex was extremely informative, educational, non-rushed and most of all heaps of fun!!! The company is easy to deal with and we would HIGHLY recommend this for first time and lovers of ROME!!!! - Njo_820 contributionsAn unmissable experience!Absolutely loved loved loved this. Alex was an exceptional tour guide with such a lot of knowledge of Rome. He took us to some off the beaten track places - things we’d never even have thought to visit that had so much history and were really beautiful and interesting. And then there’s the Fiat 500 - it was so much fun being driven around in these tiny little cars, bumping around and people waving at us. It was a brilliant experience for my mum and I and I can’t recommend it enoughWritten November 3, 2024
- stuffmatters0 contributionsThe only way to see Rome, Unique, Iconic, A must do.A Fiat 500 is the only way to truly enjoy Rome and the 7 hidden gems tour is an unforgettable experience. As we had done this tour 9 years before our expectations were very high but we were not at all disappointed. Alexis our driver / guide (who was the son of our guide on our previous trip) did a magnificent job showing us the best of Rome in 3 + hours. We opted to take two cars, one self drive and 1 driven by Alexis and this worked very well. Communication to the following car were clear whilst both cars benefited from Alexis interesting commentary. Our hidden gems tour (which can vary dependent on traffic / roadworks etc) included a drive round much of Romes old city highlights with frequent stops to enjoy photo opportunities with the sites and the Fiat 500. Not surprisingly the cars themselves become a major attraction and featured in a number of tourist photos….. Our main stops included the circus maximus, the museo della Mura (recommended), the pyramid of Cestius, and the Panaramic views from the garden of oranges with a break for a great coffee and snack on Viale Giotto at Cafe Tintori (fantastic traditional neighbourhood deli/cafe). The tour also takes us past the coliseum and through the winding lanes of Trevestere plus several other interesting neighbourhoods Both cars had 3 people including driver which was tight but manageable as long as the back seat passenger is not too tall…… The fiat 500 tour is an infinitely more fun way to explore Rome than the alternatives in bus or golf cart. How can you resist such a unique and iconic Rome experience! We look forward to a repeat next visit Very highly recommendedWritten October 28, 2024
- 255smv0 contributionsWorth your while if you are new to the cityA great way to get to know your way around the city off the usual places. Francesco was our driver and kept a great spirit through the tour despite the rainy day than always makes driving less enjoyable.Written October 23, 2024

- CJPJUK0 contributionsProper Italian JobGreat fun. 3 hours with Francesco touring some wonderful parts of Rome in the sweetest Fiat 500. Can’t recommend it enough - a great way to see Rome with knowledgeable and insightful commentary from Francesco. The car is small but amazingly practical!Written September 4, 2024
- H9937NMsethm0 contributionsBest day in RomeWe spent a great afternoon with Michele in a Fiat 500! In Rome, the amount of tourists in the historic center feels overwhelming. But Michele kept us zipping around with incredibly high energy and interesting conversation. We visited all sorts of places from Via Appia to the Vatican, and learned something fun about each place. On top of that, he’s an incredible photographer and took some great snapshots of us throughout the day. I would highly recommend this if you are in Rome.Written September 1, 2024
- Domenet0 contributionsThe Rome behind RomeThis was my second Hidden Gems tour and somehow it was even better. This time it was in convoy rather than just us and a guide and this added to the enjoyment. There were some additions to the itinerary and each of them contributed to the richer vision of Rome which the tour gives you. The cars are retro at its finest and the guides are the right blend of knowledgeable and charming. The tour definitely gives an extra dimension to any visit to Rome. Book your slightly cramped but incredibly rewarding seat now.Written August 13, 2024

Our group of four couples were guided around some of Rome’s highlights by Alex and his wing-man Nando who rode his Vespa as interference for us at intersections. After a briefing at the start the four husbands drove their wives around in convoy behind the lead car driven by Alex. We had walkie talkies to stay in touch and receive instructions and commentary from Alex. There were a few stops along the way to look at some particular monuments and historic sights and we finished the tour knowing a lot more about Rome.
The cars were all in good condition and fun to drive, even for us Aussies who drive on the other (correct 😉) side of the road. Other motorists were generally patient with our convoy even as the roads became busier during the later afternoon. Pedestrians never failed to smile and wave, and many took photos with the cars each time we stopped. All in all a fabulous experience.

Alex was amazing. His positivity and professionalism beamed. We had a blast driving these beautiful little beasts through back streets of Rome’s lesser touristed neighborhoods and really enjoyed the family friendly atmosphere. I would 100% recommend for travelers looking to scratch the itch of driving a classic Fiat 500, where they are meant to be driven, in the Eternal City.

Booked directly with the company. Very flexible with regards to payment options. Can pay in advance or pay a small deposit with the outstanding balance paid on the day (in cash). Purchased a group tour but on the day became a private tour which made the experience even more unique! Alex was very welcoming and approachable. His instructions to use the cars are very clear and has a wide range of knowledge when explaining the history of Rome (with some added humour along the way). Plenty of opportunities to park the cars and take photos. (Alex is a very willing photographer!). Would highly recommend this method to explore Rome (so long as you can fit in the car - drivers must be able to drive a manual gearbox).

My family had a self-driving tour in the famous Fiat 500, and it was AMAZING! I enjoyed squeezing through narrow streets and tight corners of historic Rome, my kid enjoyed people taking pictures of us as we passed them and my wife enjoyed taking family pictures. Those tiny Fiats are something! They are not Lamborghini, but they will beat any Lamborghini around tight corners of historic Rome. I don't have enough words to describe my experience driving the classic Fiat 500. Absolutely AMAZING!
Great may thanks to Alvise Di Giulio for making these tours possible and to our guide Alexis for memorable experience.

Great tour, and a great experience much thanks to our fun and full-of-knowledge guide Max (Massimilio). Takes you to gems on the outskirts of the city during the 3 hour tour which is a lot harder to catch by public transportations. Unique to experience it by a vintage Fiat 500, which also catches the interest of a lot of the public you pass.
Thanks again, Max!

Our family of 4 (couples + 2 adult children) drove 2 small Cinquecentos through the most beautiful sites in Rome following our experienced and knowledgeable guide Alexis ! His clear comments about all the sites we drove through were spot-on!! Alexis also took us off the beaten track and showed us some less touristy sites..and the choices of places to stop and look at vistas / monuments were also amazing! I 100% recommend taking the self-drive tour with Alexis !!

Our guide Alexis was very professional while being very friendly and very close to us. He showed us Rome in a way we couldn't have done on our own. Visiting Rome in a Fiat 500 means seeing the city from a special and very pleasant perspective. It was better than we expected. Great time spent 3 hours discovering Rome

During a company week-end trip, we booked a tour with Rome 500 EXP to make a 17 car convoy. All the participants really enjoyed it, from driving, to exploring the city and the leader comments.
Thank you very much Alvise and the team to make this activity possible for such a big amount of people! Will definitely do it again and advise it to my customers.

What an experience! Definitely 1 of the highlights of our trip to Rome and a must do activity!
We were greeted by Alex who showed us around the car and how it works (it is old so slightly different to driving a modern car) and put us at ease with how the tour will operate driving around Rome. We were also greeted by Fernando who would follow the convoy via a Moped and would assist with any issues you have including if you stall or if cars try to push into the convoy, he would race ahead and block them. This meant that you do
Not have to panic or worry at all about losing the convoy or getting lost.
The cars are manual so if you can drive a manual (stick), you will have no issues. The way the gears work are very 1950s but after you have changed gear once or twice it becomes natural.
The drive was amazing and extremely fun! Alex lead the convoy and ensured any manoeuvres he did we could all do without losing the convoy (examples including turning onto a road or going through traffic lights)
We visited numerous sites that gave us amazing views of the city as well as some historical sites that you wouldn’t visit if you had to make your own way. The highlight for me was the keyhole where you can see 3 countries at once along with the drive around the colosseum!
Everyone on our tour loved it and I was sad when it was over. I can’t stress enough how much fun this was and it was worth every penny!
Thanks to Alex and Fernando for giving us an experience of a lifetime that I will never forget

Hi, is it 1 person per car or does a non-driving passenger pay full price?
Written September 1, 2023
So does the non driving passenger need to pay full price too? That’s how I’m seeing it, but just want to clarify

Good afternoon: I have a driver license from United States. Will that work for your requirements? Thanks

I have been driving a manual car for 9 months. Is this sufficient experience to drive on the tour?
Thanks

We are a family of four, two kids. All less than 5'4", can we all fit in one car???? I'm good with manual shift, my wife....not so much.
Written July 27, 2019
There is a back seat but small .. depends on how old the kids are...two small kids may fit. Unfortunately we didn’t get a picture of the back seat. For sure one will fit in the back... I don’t know if they’ll allow it but maybe one of the kids or your wife can ride with the guide, so you can have one in the passenger seat and one kid in the back?
Written July 28, 2019
Hello! Wanted to know which all sites do you cover in this particular tour? Since we have only 3 days in Rome, want to see as much as we can.
Written April 21, 2019
The tour lasts for 90 minutes and starts at the coliseum. They take you up to the “keyhole” the knights of Malta which is worth a visit and then through to Trastevere, old town for a little way to a wonderful panoramic viewing point by the borghese Park looking down to the river Tiber and across to the city of Rome. It’s a wonderful fun and interesting tour. The tour leader gives good information at each stop. I highly recommend it if you are in a large group. If you are just a couple on your own then I think you are better getting the hop on hop off 24/48 hour big bus city tour ticket as this gives you the opportunity to see all the major sites to view and explore.

Hello, my partner weighs about 115kg and me myself around 55kg, does that mean this activity won't work for us?
Written March 26, 2019
These vintage cars are pretty tiny and I think it would be impossible for someone weighing 115kg to manipulate the pedals, etc.
Written March 27, 2019
Hello, it says you should ideally not weigh more than 100kg, my partner weighs 115kg and me 55kg - would that be a problem?

So driving on the left side of the road in Italy, the driver is on the right side of the car? If so, how does driving a manual transmission work? Is it confusing?
Written August 5, 2018
Italy drives on the same side of the road as the USA. You just need to be able to use a manual (stick shift) car. If not the guide will drive you.
Written August 30, 2018
Do you just need an English licence .. my son will be on honeymoon. Is this trip appropriate foe them. Thak you for your help
Written June 7, 2018
I was told prior to arrival via the company's website that I would need an international driver's license if I wanted to drive my own Fiat. I was also told that I would need my own from state of issue printed in roman lettering. Therefore an English license WITH an international will be needed if your son plans on driving himself. The website was incredibly helpful and the owner of the company is excellent with getting back to you about questions, as I had several.
That being said, my wife and I were given a radio to communicate with our guide (the owner), who was chauffeuring another couple, and it was amazing. I highly recommend doing this tour.
