The authenticity and sense of humour of our guide, Dario was the best. And also the low-key, all local places he guided us, left us feel not touristy for a few hours. I would recommend the tour in the first days of the visit, because it can give a whole different structure of the Roman holiday. Those who enjoy the local markets wherever in the world, this experience will give the perfect tastes of the

My husband and I really enjoyed this tour however there were a few hiccups that were eventually corrected so that it why it is a 4 star and not a 5 star.
We were greeted by a guide who clearly struggled with English and we thought the tour was going to be be terrible but then a man, Rish, showed up and said that he was just there to observe. We assumed our guide was either in training or being evaluated. I think it became clear very quickly that the original guide (I cannot remember her name) although clearly a lovely person was well out of her comfort zone leading a tour in English so Rish (with perfect English) jumped in a took over very early in the tour. He was a fantastic guide - very knowledgeable, interesting, and personable. We were lucky he was there because I think the tour would have been very challenging to understand if he wasn't. Throughout the tour he would give her the chance to lead the group but after a minute or so he would have to jump back in. I have no doubt this guide would be fabulous with an Italian speaking tour but not for an English group.
I've booked many tours with this tour company in the past and I have never been disappointed. I would book with them again, but this was a bit of a misstep - although quickly corrected.
The tour itself is great and I would highly recommend it.

This tour was fabulous! Certainly a highlight of our week in Italy and a week later I am still thinking about how great the gelato was!

Our guide, Reish, was so so knowledgeable about the history of both the city and food/recipes. He was so engaging and friendly and really made the tour worthwhile.

We learned so much all the while eating such a vast variety of different cuisines and drinks as well - truly recommend booking this tour on your trip to Rome!

Nesim the tour guide was brilliant at illustrating the relationship between food, social history and local culture. His knowledge of food production and preparation was informative and delivered in an engaging and enthusiastic manner. Testaccio's location adjacent to the River Tiber meant it played a strategic role as a warehouse for food imported into Rome. An association with food continued with a slaughterhouse open until the 1970s that employed five thousand local people and resulted in the development of the neighbourhood as a residential location.
The tour began at a local bakery where we sampled small pizza pieces and got to view the vast range of biscotti. The next stop was a delicatessen where different vintages of balsamic vinegar were sampled along with cheeses and cured meats. The indoor market provides a wide range of produce - meats, fish, cheeses, fruit and vegetables and an array of food stalls selling paninis (which we were given accompanied by a beer) suppli (a fried rice ball with mozzarella and tomato ragu) and bruschetta that we again got to enjoy. The tour
visited a local restaurant where three traditional Roman portions of pasta were served ( and explanations were provided about ingredients and how to prepare these dishes) with carbonated water and wine. The tour then concluded with a trip to an authentic gelato shop where we again sampled the produce. Throughout the tour, we were provided with suggestions of where to eat and what to look for when buying food and drink.
Rome is full of historical monuments and artefacts and this food tour highlights the social and cultural significance of food as well as provides practical advice to enhance your experience when visiting! We thoroughly enjoyed it, great value for money if you like food, history and sound advice! Testaccio is an area we would look to stay in next time, we liked the vibe and the food connections and the eateries!

This was the first food tour that my husband and I have taken. We were so delighted to be a part of this wonderful tour. Our tour guide, Katherine, was awesome. So upbeat, so knowledgeable and she did not rush us through any point in the trip.
She engaged us and our group really enjoyed each stop.....and at each stop we sampled such quality foods. We felt we really learned a lot about the cuisine and the district of Testaccio in such a beautiful way.

A fabulous overview and experience of the cornerstones of Roman food culture! Our guide Jean Luc, a native Roman and local to Testaccio, shared his life-long expertise and passion for this neighborhood’s food heritage with insight and a coherent intelligent story to weave all of our stops together. We made our way through the courses (appetizer to dessert) over several hours, with introductions to the best and iconic local vendors. We learned what makes a dish authentic and good. Jean Luc was generous with his knowledge and pointed out special local sites beyond our tour to seek out later. We will remember our tour guide fondly, as he came to our rescue several days later when my elderly mother succumbed to the dangerously high heat this summer. We happened to be at one of the tour’s stops when she fell ill and Jean Luc appeared like an angel to help us. Thank you so much for the tour and kindness. Highly recommend!

Well, it was fantastic. everything? just being in Testaccio at the piazza was nice, it was so relaxing. We would say all, especially? the food court and samples like the beef
and chicory sandwiches! The lovely restaurant, Angelina's (sp?) was great and the
balsamic tasting and the gelato of course with Luca, such a fun day.
We felt Eleanora was so informative and patient pointing out various things.

Exceeded our expectations—wasn’t expecting a full lunch with wine with three different pastas on top of 8-10 other tastings. We loved going into the different local shops and market for the tastings. Luca our guide was very knowledgeable and fun to be with.

Nesim was the best guide for this activity. This was the first food tour we have ever done in our 25 years coming to Italy. Nesim emulates professionalism, passion and the love of both the foods and culture of the area. This made the tour!! The foods came to life and the warm welcome from each of places visited, you could tell this was going to be the best!!
From the first stop with a taste of salami, cheese and prosciutto to the tastes of various pastas to “the Testaccio” market place to the gelato…. Every stop was filled with flavors and historical references that just helped you understand how these dishes came to be created.
We came hungry to learn and enjoy and walked “slowly” away, with our tummies filled.
This was an incredible tour.

We did two food tours with Dominico on our Rome vacation and had a great time! We do food tours at each new city we visit and this was one of the best. He did a good job of explaining the area and engaging the group so you felt like you were part of the neighborhood. He made sure we had great food options foe the rest of the trip and even stopped by the dinner restaurant (his suggestion) to say hi when he saw us in his neighborhood. Our favorite part of our trip to Rome!
