We were very excited to see the places on this tour and we were not disappointed! Alain and Andrea were very informative and served as excellent guides through the sights and history of this tour. The meeting place was directly in front of our hotel which was most convenient. The tour started promptly and the bus was very comfortable. Our driver was an expert at maneuvering through the traffic clogged streets. The catacombs were very mysterious and seemed endless. The church we visited was magnificent and stepping down into the lower levels was like going back in time. The capuchin crypts are indescribable…so you’ll just have to go see for yourself! We love spooky things and haunted tours but this was just in a different vein of macabre! As we finished our tour, the rain came down so we ducked into a covered sidewalk trattoria with crystal chandeliers across the street from the crypts and had a great bottle of wine and an amazing dinner. It was a very lovely way to spend our first full day in Roma.

Our day was rainy, so it was perfect for this tour because you spend it inside or on the bus! Our guide Jon was great! The group size was great and the tour worth it! After you add up the entry fees and prices you would spend on transportation (varying from 8-10 €) it makes more sense to pay for this tour than to do it yourself! The knowledge you get and the people you meet are totally worth it! We wouldn’t have gotten great recommendations or a 1/4 of the knowledge unless we did this tour! Kudos to our guide Jon for being jolly, positive and keeping the tour very interesting. The 3 hours swept by and before we knew it we were off on our way to finding some pizza to devour! Thanks for a 1 in a lifetime trip Jon, this is something worth doing while here but make sure you go in with open minds and don’t waste bringing a camera.. I would only recommend you bring water and a snack to nibble on for the trip is constantly going! Also I must mention timing... be on time and don’t go when it’s overcrowded and too busy! We went in the winter and even though it is off season the places still had people throughout so if you book this and pay the price just make a note of the time of year you are going and the dressing/photo requirements!

We booked this tour for the first full day we spent in Rome on our honeymoon. The meeting point was really easy to find (only 2 minutes walk from our hotel it turned out) and we were given clear directions prior to our trip. There we were greeted by Alan who was such an amazing tour guide, friendly, knowledgable and willing to give us time to just enjoy the things we were seeing - we didn't feel rushed at any point. We were given headphones and a radio so that we could hear the information given by Alan at all times, then once all the technology had been checked we walked to the bus which took us to the catacombs. On our journey there Alan gave us some information about what we were about to see and told us some interesting tidbits about some of the sites we were seeing en route. The catacombs were really interesting and we learnt a lot about them through our guide's expertise and passion. From there we were taken back into the city to see the St Peter in chains church, which has a famous Michaelangelo sculpture in it (amongst other amazing things) as it happened this tied in nicely with our trip to the Vatican museums that morning. Our tour ended looking at some crypts in our third and final location, I won't give too much away but it totally blew our minds and Alan as he had done throughout gave a really interesting insight into the oddities we were visiting. We very eagerly told our family all about this tour when we returned home, spouting lots of information we'd learnt on it. Would thoroughly recommend for the history and some of the more unusual sights of Rome.

Wish I could say something positive about this trip but it was a total bore. Our guide tried their best to be engaging but didn’t help things be less boring. The first couple stops were a total let down, and our guide breezed through them.

There was one point a few people noticed bones in the crypts and our guide completely missed that so half the group didn’t end up seeing it.

The catacombs/crypt museum at the end was the only cool part and we spent like 10 mins cus we were almost there by closing.

It was such a bore that a handful of people left mid tour. You are much better off getting your own $8 ticket to the crypt museum and seeing it on your own. Believe me when I say that this was a total waste of time.

We just completed this tour yesterday. Out of the several tours we did the last few weeks, this was the most disappointing. I very rarely give such negative reviews but I felt I have to this time. Ill start with the catacombs, basilica, and crypts are pretty cool and I’m glad we got to walk through them. However to begin, the company states that this is a small group tour of less than twenty. We had a 60 person group and they gave us 3 guides and we were supposed to split into smaller groups, this really didn’t happen. We mostly ended up sticking with the other groups which tremendously effected the amount of information we got at each site. Our tour guide seemed to know little about the stops on the tour and spent most of her time talking to another female tour guide in Italian so of course we could understand very little. There are no headsets on this tour either and that was frustrating because unless you were in the front you couldn’t hear much of the little that she was saying. Also getting off the bus there were several times they left and began crossing several streets before everyone was off the bus. All the guides were mainly in the front and often times left several people behind and didn’t even really take inventory to check if everyone was coming. Towards the end of the tour about 10 people were falling so far behind I finally had to tell one of the guides to check on them as I feared they would get lost. (Which she turned around and went back kindly) The thing that upset me about this the most is that the guide was scrolling in her phone and the other two were so far ahead so no one was paying attention. Another annoying thing was that the guides has flashlights through the catacombs. Most guides had accidentally several times flashed people in the face and apologized, however our tour guide continued to do it without paying attention to the group around her. Since we got very little information from her and she didn’t wait for the entire group to explain things, it would have been nice to have a small flashlight ourselves to be able to look in each area ourselves to at least see it as most are dark and difficult to see. I would definitely see these areas again just not with this company and I would do a true “small” group tour. Our group was disappointed because we feel likes we have missed out on so much good information because our guide/guides. The only reason I’m giving 2/5 instead a 1/5 is that the sites themselves would have been amazing with better guides. I’m glad the rest of our tours of Rome are not with city wonder.

Expensive for what it is. The tour group was split; so some of the tour was spent waiting around while the guide gave some of the tour to each group separately. We also shared the bus with another tour group and they were given extra info that our group was not.

Getting bus-ed to 3 different locations without you having to worry about transport logistics was great but made the tour feel too rushed. Better to focus instead on just the crypt and catacomb.

It didn't help that the guide for my group didn't seem to have a lot of knowledge about the places. She could talk about what we saw but couldn't quite offer the context or bigger picture needed to help us understand why things were the way they were.

At the Capuchin Crypt, she had us completely skip the entire museum in order to spend time in the crypt rooms so didn't have the chance to understand the lives of the people behind the crypt.

For those who prefer a more in-depth understanding of what they're seeing, might be better to DIY your trip to these places separately and spend a longer time at both spots Together, they cost less than 30 Euros inclusive of guided tour / audio guide and don't require you to be herded on / off the coach bus repeatedly with a big group of other people.

I think this tour has the capability to be a great tour with a better organization - we were led to believe we would be seeing the crypt, as the tour operators had no indications posted that it would be impacted by the easter festive. Upon arriving we were told by the guide that we wouldn't be going there and offered 2 options: a full refund or only seeing the catacombs. We requested the full refund as we wanted to see the whole thing, not just part of it. After requesting the full refund the company only gave us half of what we paid, even when we didn't go on the tour.

Dear twtm1307, Thank you for sharing your review on Trip Advisor. We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience caused during your tour. Unfortunately due to Easter holidays some venues on your itinerary got closed without any prior notice; which is why we offered you those options on the spot. I do apologise if there was a misunderstanding and a partial refund was issued instead of a full refund. Please kindly contact us with your booking reference number and your full name so we can rectify this by double checking your booking and issuing a full refund. We wish you safe travels. Kindest Regards, Chadia City Wonders

The first stop was the crypt with the bones - definitely a very unique experience.
The rest is not so. The catacombs are just a walk through with the masses, we had about 80 people in the group (that part is organized by the catacombs’ people).
Our guide was not so informative, hardly captivating. I would skip this tour and just visit the first stop independently. Much cheaper and probably same or more amount of info (you get an audio guide with admission).

A truely great experience! We booked the tour as the Catacombs are out side of Rome centre and hard to navigate by bus (bus air conditioning and summer was a win!). The Crypts are not to be missed, truely humbling experience. Our last stop was an amazing church that Our guide Barbara truely brought to life! Barbara was so knowledgeable and engaging throughout the entire day. One of the best tours we have done in Rome
