We debated whether to take this tour, or go on our own to save money.
We were lucky that we got Giuseppe, a Tivoli native as our guide. He is wonderful, and just one of two extraordinary guides we had while traveling in Italy.
We were even luckier that for whatever reason, there just happened to be very few other people in the area when we arrived, so it was truly a privileged, small-group tour, and it was worth every penny.
We just know that we would have missed a lot without Giuseppe’s tips and expert guidance.
Make SURE that if you go to Villa d’Este, you ask about, and stay, for the water organ concert, something that a lot of people who go on their own miss altogether.
The only regret is that we chose not to include the lunch in the tour. The restaurant that was recommended to us was very overpriced and frankly mediocre. If you choose not to take the tour with the meal included, trust your instinct and go to something that looks good and offers reasonable prices in the menu; such places abound in Tivoli.

Trying to imagine the scale of Hadrian's Villa was mind blowing and followed up by visiting Villa d'Este to give you some better idea was wonderful. The fountains and gardens are not to be missed. I chose the lunch option and it was good food. The others who didn't choose lunch were directed to another nearby restaurant that also looked good too.

A great day trip overall!

Our guide Giuseppe was amazing, having lived in Tivoli all his life he was a fountain of knowledge. His knowledge of the gardens and villas made the experience so much more enriching. This already beautiful town was a hilight of our trip and it's one of the most beautiful areas in Italy, a must see with a dedicated tour guide whose main goal is to ensure you are enjoying you're time as well as informing you of the vast history of both villas.

Really wanted to see both the Villa D’Este and Hadrian’s Villa and this tour looked a good option. The timings were spot on and the guide (Giuseppe) was excellent - sharing his local knowledge, wit and experience. The audio system (one earphone to listen to the guide) worked really well too.
Highly recommend!

Our trip to Tivoli was a highlight of our Roman Holiday. Giuseppe our guide was local to the area and delivered a good humoured tour full of interesting and engaging facts. It was a little rainy the day we visited but this only added to the charm of the area with some stunning photo opportunities. We booked the tour with the lunch option and would recommend this as it’s a stress free solution! The break for lunch was the perfect length of time, however if we had to find our own lunch it might have flet a bit tight. A wonderful day out!

This was a really well organized small group tour. We have never been on a tour like this, but we had an extra day and wanted to see something outside of Rome. The bus was comfy and left on time. The tour guide was knowledgeable enough, and as you will read elsewhere, used his magic book as an aid to explain the ancient site of Hadrian’s Villa. I would have liked an extra half hour here, unsupervised, there’s lots to see. We stopped for lunch in Tivoli- don’t go to any of the recommended restaurants on the main square, they’re all the same. We found a Romanian restaurant called Taverna de Dracula’s which was friendly and had excellent, non Italian food, which was a great change. After lunch we toured the Villa de Este, again with the guide. Pretty incredible place, unbelievable really. We had a little more time to poke around here, and it’s lush and photogenic. Then it was back on the bus to Rome. 4 stars because our time was a little rushed, and there are a few places for improvement, but overall, they remove all the hassle of getting to Tivoli and these two incredible UNESCO sites.

Family of four with adult children. Our tour guide Guiseppe (Joseph) was fantastic and we all thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Its a lot to fit in 8 hours so you might feel rushed though we did not. The tour starts with a 45 minute drive to Villa Adriana. Guiseppe pointed out and described the highlight spots and used his “magic book” to show what these spots looked like long ago. The next stop is Tivoli - an extremely charming spot. Avoid the recommended restaurant, its overpriced! We found an amazing spot to eat down the back alley and past a couple of small Piazza’s. Its called Bottega Del Grano e Cucina. OUTSTANDING Cibo!!!! Following lunch we toured the fountains and gardens of Villa D’este. Again, Guiseppe pointed out and described the highlight spots and then let us walk around at each spot.

This tour was GREAT if you want to hit the highlights but not great if you need to linger in order to maximize appreciation.

10+ for the tour guide Guiseppe!

Wonderful day out. We were lucky enough to pretty much have both villa's to ourselves. Giuseppe was amazing and gave us a relaxed but informative tour. We never felt rushed and were given free time to take the beautiful scenery in. Lunch at the restaurant was enjoyable.Would absolutely recommend this tour.

The headsets were extremely static-y, making it nearly impossible to hear what the guide was saying. No one could hear him, not just me! He seemed unconcerned, like this happens all the time. He offered no solution. The guide had no enthusiasm and did the bare minimum. Not recommended.

Excellent guide Giuseppe a local was very knowledgeable. He explained the history & answered all questions. The Villas were great! However lunch was extremely disappointing. Tour group needs to find a new restaurant or improve food quality. Guide deserves over 5 stars but I would suggest finding lunch on your own.
