Trip was good about thirty to forty minutes. Driver drove well.

Hadrian’s villa felt a bit rushed. It is huge but not all of it has been excavated. So we could have seen more.

The tour guide explained much and well. He was knowledgeable.

Villa d’este was beautiful. It is a beautiful villa. Again felt a little bit rushed.

So this tour offered a general view of the two villas. If you want more detailed tour book them separately.

One thing I did not appreciate was not under anyone’s control. I was made fun for thinking that marinara sauce was about the tomato. A snobbish fellow tourist corrected me because “as the word says it has products from the sea, Marinara seafood sauce”. It was pointed out to me that Americans don’t have culture. I did not reply.

However I asked around and I learned that marinara sauce was called so because it was given to the sailers “marinos” in Naples.

Sauce for sailers, marinara sauce. It was the flat bread with tomato sauce, I was right.

Please share this with all the tour guides. It is not pleasant to be the person without culture in the group. Especially when the uncultured person has the correct fact.

I did mention this to the guide. There isn’t enough time to visit both sites. The Villa d’Este should be a separate tour.

By the time we finished Hadrian’s Villa and got to Villa d’Este we got 15 minutes to explore the gardens. That wasn’t enough time to walk down the steps to the gardens before we had to meet the bus.

The locations are beautiful and we enjoyed the tour just not enough time.

During our October 2018 Trip to Rome my wife and I took this tour. As we were staying in a hotel in central Rome we were able to get a free transfer from our hotel to the tour bus. We were picked up in a van by a driver who wasn't overly friendly and didn't speak much English. He did get us to the bus on time which was what really mattered. On the bus we learned there were two groups of tourists, one which included us that was interested in the English version of the tour and a second group which was interested in the Spanish version of the tour. Fortunately, there were separate tour guides for the English and Spanish tours, both of whom were women. Our first stop on the tour was at a gas station on the way to Tivoli where people were allowed to get snacks and visit the rest rooms while the bus took on fuel. Once back on the bus we proceeded to Tivoli. Our next stop was a short distance from the Villa d'Este and once we got off the bus our guide, Kathleen, led us to the entrance. She brought us into the site and gave us a brief tour of the actual villa and then turned us loose for about an hour to explore on our own. This is a beautiful site to see with all the gardens and fountains. There are also places where you can get great views of the surrounding countryside. One negative is that the gardens are built into a hillside and a small valley. To get from the villa to the fountains and gardens requires traversing rather steep staircases and ramps which would be difficult for people with walking issues or in wheelchairs. When we finished at the Villa d'Este we went back to the bus and had a short drive to Hadrian's Villa. Once off the bus and inside the park we began about a half mile walk up a steep road to get to where the ruins are located. Hadrian's Villa covers a large area which is still being excavated to this date. Kathleen led us through some of the ruins and provided information on what we were seeing. There is a lot to see here, though most of the original statues were removed in the past and are now in museums in Rome. Hadrian's Villa is in a park-like setting which made our visit there very relaxing. At the end of the guided tour here we were given a little time to look around on our own and to use the rest rooms before we returned to the bus to take us back to Rome. Both Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa were much less crowded than most of the other tourist areas in Rome which added to the enjoyment of this tour. We liked this tour and recommend it to other tourists.

would have been worth it if we had a decent guide but she was the worst. Save your money and take the metro or train. you will get more information by reading the signs at the attractions.

What promised to be a highlight of our visit to Rome turned into a huge disappointment
1)the tour is ambiguously billed as English and multilingual. The English portion was difficult to understand as the guide had a pronounced Italian accent.
2) the guide did not make it clear that our first stop at "Adriana's" villa was in fact also the entry to Hadrian's villa. Neither my wife or I realised were were in fact at Hadrian's villa which is what we most wanted to see.
3) the intial entry to ths villa invloved a steep climb up a hill which the guide led at a rapid pace without any regard to the limited ability of several members of the group including ourselves who could only walk slowly. We had to abandon this segment of the tourl bcause we could not keep up. the guide was totally unaware we had done so, thereby missing the main highlight for us.
4) there is no indication in the tour description of strenous walking up hills and up and down many steps. Once again we had to abndon the second major stop at Villa Este for the same reason.
The guide did not seem to care.
Warning . Do not take this tour if you have any limitations in your walking and climbing.

It turned out to be a major disappointment for us and a wasted day and money

Ridiculously short times at both sites. Commentary by the male guide added little and I would suggest Wikipedia research before the trip is far more worthwhile.

We booked to go with Greenline Tours (the meeting point, Via Cavour, is easy to find right by Termini Station and there are lots of reasonable restaurants around there so we had lunch before we boarded the coach at 2.30pm). We had a great half-day tour. It was hot in Rome and very busy so a half day up in the peaceful hills with a cool breeze at two different but fascinating destinations was just what we needed. The coach was comfortable, the audio guides worked perfectly and our guide was helpful, knowledgable and she couldn't do enough to make sure our time on the tour was well spent, packed with interest and included time for rest and refreshments. Thank you to Greenline for a great outing during our holiday to Rome - we will definitely book with you again.

We booked a half day tour from Rome. The guide was a nice lady but she didn't go out of her way to explain anything. She just gave a few sentences here and there and basically was just an escort. The time allowed to travel to Tivoli and to view these two sites was not enough for the price of the trip. We saw Hadrian's villa first, and basically just the entrance and the fountain area, we didn't see anything else and she didn't give much on the history.

Then we walked way back to the bus and went to Villa d'Este. Whereby she explained on the bus about the Villa a few sentences, when we arrived at the venue she bought tickets and told us to meet her back at the entrance when we were done. There was only 45 minutes allowed here which was barely a drop in the bucket because there is a whole house where the living quarters were, I couldn't tell you anything about it because she didn't explain much. The fountains and gardens are all way down below many sets of stairs so navigation here requires much more than 45 minutes--plus other tour guides were with their travelers explaining the interior of the house and then went down to the gardens with them giving commentary as they went along. I expected a full explanation, not just a bus ride and host.

I got nothing out of these visits except just to see the sites in a hurry. It's a shame because going to the other part of the world cost money and time and the fact that we went here and it was not a completed task leaves a bad taste. They really need to get a better guide and revamp this tour to either separate the two or to make it a longer visit so that there is time to enjoy the sites and to understand what went on there historically.

Really enjoyed seeing Villa d'Este - its an amazing place. If you love fountains, this is the place to go - over a hundred of them.

Beautiful area and nice bus trip. Hadrian's Villa which is a short distance away were nice ruins to visit.

I don't think I would take another trip with Greenline. I booked on Viator so didn't know who the guide company was. Our guides were just average. They gave tour in 3 languages which was OK but compared to other tours we took this trip, we thought the guides were just average where other guides we have had were excellent.

Site of Roman activity and now a Villa with gardens which included interesting statuary. Also fountains everywhere. There's a daily organ concert by the main fountain.
