Looking for one of the best Rome day trips? Travel to Capri, an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, on this day trip with an experienced guide. You’ll journey by coach to Naples, where you’ll cross the deep blue sea by boat to reach the isle of Capri. Enjoy lunch in Anacapri, a hilltop village with wonderful views, and then explore the main town of Capri independently. You can also take a boat tour to Capri’s famous Blue Grotto, if you wish.
What to Expect
After pickup from your hotel or meeting point, your Rome to Capri day trip starts with the approximate 3-hour drive south to Naples, capital of Italy’s Campania region. Along the way, admire the landscape of Castelli Romani (Roman Castles) and sights like the Abbey of Montecassino, a hilltop Benedictine monastery.

When you arrive at the port of Naples, board a hydrofoil boat or catamaran for the 45-minute ride across the Tyrrhenian Sea to Capri, a fashionable island that sits just off Italy’s famed Amalfi Coast. You’ll pull into Marina Grand, where you can transfer over to a rowboat for a guided journey along the shoreline to see the fascinating Blue Grotto, Capri’s most famous natural sight (entry at your own expense). The grotto’s enchanting blue color comes from rays that enter from under the water and a small beam of light from the cave’s only entrance.

Back on the island, head up to the small village of Anacapri by coach to enjoy hilltop views of the Bay of Naples with free time for lunch at a local trattoria. Then go back down the hill to the town of Capri, the island’s main settlement, where you can walk around on your own. Go shopping for souvenirs or check out sights like Piazza Umberto before it's time to catch the boat back to Naples, where you’ll re-board the coach for the return drive to Rome.

As you leave Naples, catch sight of landmarks like Castel Nuovo, Certona di San Martino and Palazzo Reale. Then relax on the journey back to Rome, where your day trip ends at a drop-off point near Termini Station or one of the following locations, if you prefer: Via Veneto, Piazza Barberini, Piazza Venezia or Piazza della Repubblica (just let your guide know).

Please note: In rare cases of very bad weather, boats to Capri are cancelled; if this happens, you’ll spend the day exploring Naples and the ancient ruins of Pompeii, a World Heritage Site, with your guide. No refund will be due.

Skip Greenline

We went on tours throughout our trip using various travel groups. Greenline was by far the worst of the ones we took which was so unfortunate. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to what felt like an agency office. We weren't given...More

Capri in August

The trip was well organized and led by very friendly tour guide. The problem was the enormous crowds on the island. Next time we'd pick off season for this visit.

14 hours of riding and waiting for 2 hours of "sightseeing" - don't bother.

I should have paid more attention to the observant TripAdvisor members who took the time to document what we ended up learning first hand! This was a weekend day trip with a party of three. We were on a business trip and thought this would...More

My favorite day of the trip

Beautiful views!! The wait for the blue grotto was 2 hrs in peak season - so we opted for the hour boat ride around the island and saw cliffs up close, 3-4 other grottos up close (right up to the rock's edge!), drove the boat...More

Probably not. Best to contact the tour folks. They told us they would pick us up and left us scrambling at the last minute when they didn’t. Good luck
