The city of Pompeii was destroyed and buried by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 a.d. From Pompeii we take a drive along the wonderful coastal road to Sorrento. You will enjoy superb view of the Bay of Naples, and the Island of Capri is revealed as the Amalfi coast road emerges from over the mountain top, driving along winding country roads bordered with lemons, olive threes and bouganvilles. In ancient time, Sorrento was famous for its wine (oranges and lemons which are now widely cultivated there were not yet introduced in Italy in antiquity) its fish, and its red campanian vases.
This is what you can admire once you will be dropped off for some lunch in a typical restaurant suggested by your driver and a little stroll down the main shopping streets. Don’t forget to taste the ultra famous Limoncello, liquor digestif made from lemon rinds, alchol water and sugar.

You will then proceed along the Amalfi coast to Positano, where a picture postcard comes to life, a patchwork of flat and domed roofs and vine-covered stairways tumbling down to meet the gentle curve of the beach. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this elegant spot with its designer boutiques, shops and seaside cafes. You can visit the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its dome made of majolica tiles as well as a 13th century Byzantine icon of a black Madonna.
