Ciao Tours of Vancouver arranged for a driver - Roberto, in Naples who took us to Pompei where Michael, an Archeology Major but not an Archeologist, gave us the 2.5-3 hr tour of Pompei. We were there on 3/6/2020 so there were no crowds due to conovirus. When we arrived Michael met us at the entrance. Since this was a private tour, he took us to areas which he thought would be of interest. The Brothel was under construction and was closed. The Baths were closed due to the Coronavirus restriction - they did not have enough air movement. The first area we visited was the museum with the body cast (best preserved) we could not go in area, coronavirus, but could look through window. Michael explained how the cast were done and what the scientist did when he found them.
Michael, you could tell, loved Pompei and really enjoyed sharing his view. Since we were free styling, he wasn't handcuffed to seeing this and this and this but rather the highlights of what he thought we should see. It also helped that no one was there. Usually it is shoulder to shoulder. Why a private guide (for just us 2). The right private guide is licensed and an expert on the site. They don't read a script but know the place and can answer questions which you may have. Granted they may have heard the questions before but at least the Guide is knowledgeable about the site and can answer most questions. Because we were not rushed, got to see all in Pompei, we got the treat to see the Villa of Mysteries in which the wedding scene was just uncovered 1909 which was much later than most of Pompei. The paintings were gorgeous. Ciao Tours piced a great guide for us in Michael and the driver Robert worked great meeting us at the train station and bringing us to Pompei.

The tour with Lino was just amazing!!!
He is truly outstanding not only as a tour guide but he is also a marvelous and utmost knowledgeable educator full of wisdom, humor, empathy and joy. It has been a real privilege discovering Pompei under his spell. We could not have wished for better time that unfortunately flew by at a blink of an eye...
Please give him our very best regards and deepest gratitude for the time we have been able to spend all together.

We booked a tour with Rossana as we read good reviews before and since we are a German-American family, we like the fact that she was able to speak both, German and English.
The tour went on for about 2 hours and Rossana was really great with the kids, especially as they were a little tired due to the heat. She always involved them into her tour, so they told me later how much they liked her and everything about Pompeji.
Rossana also explained a lot and had answers to all questions. I would highly recommend her. She also gave a little gift to all three kids at the end to have a memory of Pompeji. Thank you!

Just a quick note to say that this was a well paced, thoroughly interesting tour. Livio, our guide, studied archeology and wider regional and world history and this meant his answers were all based on broad understanding and given context. Thank you!

Fantastic tour - so interesting, funny, fun and engaging! Our guide Lello had so many interesting facts and stories - really gave us a great sense of what Pompeii was all about. Over two hours on our feet and touring flew by because it was so much fun! We were also very appreciative of the pickup from the train from Rome and ride back - all easy and comfortable. Also, Ilaria was very communicative and nice to work with to book the tour and make all of the travel arrangements!

Pompeii was amazing and Lello, our tour guide, made it even better. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and made the tour a pleasure. Skipping lines was nice too. So much to see. Could spend days there so having a great guide really made a difference. Our tour company was great too. Communication was easy and they accommodated a late change.

What amazing day we had to day. With Lello as a extremely fantastic guide we went back time and was visiting Pompeii. His knowledge and way to explain was over standing. It was unforgettable experience. Easy to book and professional taking care of the booking must of all safe. My best recommendation.

A private tour is the way to go. We were picked up at our hotel and driven to Pompeii where our tour guide, Italo, met us and ushered us through the long ticket line up and our tour started immediately. We are glad we did the half day. It was exceptionally hot when we went and while it was interesting, any longer and I think our children (14 years old and 12 years old) would have been bored. Italo was a great tour guide - an excellent story teller and we liked that he was efficient with our time. For example, rather than stand in line to see the men's baths, we walked right in to the women's baths. And as much as he could, he would try and find a different angle or a quiet spot for us so he could explain what we were looking at.
Ilaria was very helpful and responded to my questions very quickly. Our driver was half an hour late to pick us up. While I appreciate that his vehicle had mechanical issues, we were not advised of this and only found out by calling Ilaria.
Despite this, we would recommend Private Tours of Pompeii.

I’m thoroughly impressed with this company. Ilaria was very efficient and responsive with our booking. She even organized a small cake for my daughter’s birthday that day! Marco picked us up at the train station and was super helpful with giving us tips and information. We had a lovely lunch at Bosco De Medici and then proceeded to our tour. Lelo was the best tour guide we’ve ever met. He was funny and engaging and full of passion for the ruins of Pompei. He created the most memorable experience for us. Thank you!

We had a lovely side trip during our Roman holiday to Pompeii. We caught the Italian fast train (Frecciarossa) from Rome to Naples where we were met by a driver who took us to Pompeii and there we met our guide Italia (? sp). He was very good. His English was great and we enjoyed a tour of several sites in Pompeii. This was a private tour with just the two of us and the guide and that worked very well for us. We got around easily and were able to weave in and out of other larger tour groups so I believe we were able to see more than we would have in the same time on a larger tour.
Pompeii is pretty incredible. It's certainly unlike anything we've ever seen and well worth the trip down from Rome. We chose not to do the Vesuvius tour (it was around 90 degrees when we traveled) so I can't comment on that, but the Pompeii portion was a wonderful experience and this tour group made it even better.
