- 1Pompeii is one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy, if not the world. See ancient ruins, destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, leaving the city buried under mountains of volcanic ash. Start from Porta Marina Inferiore and visit the wonderful Great Theatre and the Small one also known as Odeion. See places where the Romans held banquets, and discover plaster casts of its citizens, preserved as they were during the explosion. Reach the roman Cardo or Via Stabiana with typical roman shops, such as ancient snack bar or tabernae. Explore houses and everyday items that were still almost intact when the city was unearthed. Explore the main square, thermal bath complex aka Roman spa, palster casts, brothels, and much more. End of tour.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Pathfinder5630380 contributionsA Day in the RuinsRoberta referred to us as her “family” and she treated us as such for the entire tour. She was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and had a great sense of humor. When the official tour was over, she provided us with suggestions on other parts of the ruins to visit on our own, and some great spots for pictures. The ruins are a bit of a maze, so be sure to identify the exit if you don’t leave with your guide.Written September 14, 2024
- aroc260 contributionsPompeii, Positano, and Sorrento in One day, 5 StarsPompeii + Positano and Sorrento - 5 Stars What an amazing perfect day. Our guide for the day was Riccardo. Riccardo was knowledgeable and easily picked up on our interests to satisfy our party of five (3 Adults and 2 kids 13 and 10). Our first stop of Pompeii, Riccardo was able to share his archeological knowledge and insight while exploring the grounds. He made sure the 2 hours were well spent. From there we drove to beautiful Positano, stopping on the way for amazing photo views and Granita. Once we got to Positano he recommended an amazing restaurant and gave us the history on the town. From there we made our way to Sorrento to explore the town, views, and best Gelato. For the time we had ashore, he made every second count. Thank you Raf and Riccardo for making our day a memorable experience.Written September 3, 2024

- ionuza0 contributionsExcellentThe tour was very well organised, good selection of sites (as Pompeii is so big!), and our guide Rafaele made all the stories come to life in such a vivid way! He was very knowledgeable, accommodating and engaging for all ages in our group. Despite the extreme heat he left us with the desire and energy to explore more!Written July 16, 2024
- Godwillprovide100 contributionsTruly Grand! Best tours ever! There are no words that could adequately capture the amazing experiences we had with every person from this company, but I’ll try. ;) Francesca was very detail oriented in setting us up and exchanged several emails with us before our arrival. First, we did a Naples tour with Enrica. She was knowledgeable, kind, charismatic, helpful, and even allowed us to ask questions after the tour was as over. Next was our “origin of roots” tour with Raffaelle in San Felice. It was me, 2 sisters, and our 84 yo mother who had her Grandfather’s birth certificate. Raffaele and our amazing driver Alfredo made miracles happen! Through Raffaele’s advocacy at the town hall we gained access to a book from the 1800’s and found my great grandfather’s original birth certificate that had his childhood home address, which we then visited. The mayor of San Felice even met us! My mom was in tears. Raf also set up a delicious lunch! It’s important to understand these tour guides are highly educated and passionate about what they do. It is well beyond a “tour” and we understand now why the name is GRAND tour experience, because it was grand! Raffaele also took us to the stunning Certosa of San Martino. His knowledge was impeccable. We had some shifts due to us wanting to shop and he arranged us a different driver, who was great. And then we had piece of mind as we were able to hire Alfredo to drive us early in the morning to the airport. Everyone is amazing humans and we feel so Blessed to have met Raf and his team. It was life changing and when we come back we will definitely be booking with them again. Thank you Grand Tour Experience!Written June 29, 2024
- RiderReay0 contributionsPompeii with the best guide, Gennaro!Gennaro Bolzano was our guide and he was amazing. One of the best tour guides I have ever had. He is funny and extremely informative. It made our visit a to Pompeii very enjoyable and something we will remember for years to come. I highly recommend buying a tour package, and it you can get him, reserve Gennaro.Written June 19, 2024
- laurarP4339QR0 contributionsHighly recommended tour of ancient Roman villasThis tour takes you away from the crowds of Pompeii and Herculaneum to visit three excavated villas that were also covered by the same eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Our tour guide, Arcangelo, is an expert on the amazing frescos from the time. The villa at Oplontis had a fascinating range of earlier and later fresco styles as it was undergoing a restoration at the time of the eruption. Arcangelo was personable, articulate, answered all our questions, and made our tour very enjoyable. The tour provides a very detailed view into life at the villas and the architecture and art of the period, and the personal attention from the small group tour allowed us to ask questions and learn much more than we did during our crowded Pompeii tour. Note that you need car transportation between these three sites since public transportation doesn't go there. As we didn't have a car in Italy, Viviana in the Grand Tour Experience office hired a driver to take us to the three sites. We had a wonderful driver, Alfredo, who picked us up at our prior destination, took us to all sites, and dropped us off at our hotel afterward. Viviana was very responsive and helpful and, with this arrangement, made this exceptional experience possible for us.Written May 19, 2024
- lucacamu90120 contributionsA must tour to doWe did also another trip (Capri) with this company and we did the right choice again! The tour of Pompeii was fantastic! Our guide Riccardo is a pro! Communication was super easy with the office and they provided us a link to pre purchase our skip the line tickets for the site (we had them on the phone with a barcode no need to print). Riccardo shown us the main aspect of roman life and brought to life again the ruins! My favorite stop was the forum bath and the house of vettii! Grazie riccardo and thank you team!Written May 18, 2024
- lucacamu90120 contributionsA stunning experience we never forget! The tour was very well prepared. Once we arrived to the cruise terminal, our guide Paola met us and took to the tickets boot to get the ferry and once we arrived to the island of capri we literally fell in love! We enjoyed a great boat tour, then with a private van we could reach the upper side of the island, Anacapri where we discovered with Paola secrets gardens with roman ruins and amazing paintings! We did also the chairlift! After lunch we drove to Capri town! Thank you very much to this team, me and my fiancé never forget this trip! Grazie!Written May 18, 2024
- Mariangela_280 contributionsNapoli like never before!Raffaele Romano is the most amazing guide I have ever encountered. Our group was lucky to have him for 2 days and for different tours in Naples, Italy. . He showed an in-depth, impressive understanding of all subject matters, he is highly educated in all subjects and has top-notch communication skills, and his humor is unparalleled. He is very personable and possesses a great sense of punctuality and impeccable time management. I highly recommend Raffaele Romano and his tour company. Working and delegating our wishes with his colleagues was a real pleasure and planning our trip was facilitated by their impressive knowledge of the area. Will definitely return to explore Italy with Raffaele and Naples Grand Tour.Written May 14, 2024

- 929Buzz0 contributionsBest Naples tour with the best guideExcellent guide with Raffaele who had so much knowledge about all that we saw and was able to show us so much more than normal guide books. He was so proud of his heritage and culture and this just shone through during the tour. He got us past the crowds and being such a small group tour we could adapt and see things and ask questions at any time and he always had an answer for us as his knowledge is superb. Would definitely use again when we returnWritten April 25, 2024

We had a fantastic tour with Teresa of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Organizing the tour was easy - with rapid communication through email. We had a car so meet out tour guide Teresa at Pompeii - she had a sign with our name and was easy to find. She gave us a wonderful tour full of detailed information and presented in a fun way. Teresa has PhD so is full of knowledge, but is a fantastic teacher and kept our attention. She knew what areas to avoid due to crowds and gave exquisite details on small but very interesting facts that we would have overlooked. We (myself, 17 year old son and 15 year old daughter) can not recommend enough. Book this tour. Teresa is currently postdoc, but will make a fantastic Professor some day.

We went on a private walkabout tour in Pompeii with Raffaele as our guide. We are so lucky to have such a knowledgeable guide to take us around. Even the cynic (of guided tours) in our group loved the tour and had a most enjoyable time listening and chatting with Raffaele...
Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon!
