What to expect
  • Make your way to the Pompeii excavation on your own (it's an easy trip from Naples or Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana train to the Pompei Scavi station). Meet your guide not far from the entrance to the Pompeii archaeological site. From there, follow your guide into the ancient city and travel back in time. Learn about the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79 that buried Pompeii and preserved it. Walk on ancient Roman cobblestones, looking out for the ruts left by wagon wheels. Visit the theater, where once there were lively performances of tragedy and comedy. See Pompeii's thermal bathhouse, where residents would go regularly to bathe, exercise, and gossip. Peek into the remains of local businesses, such as restaurants, bars, and shops selling food and clothing. Walk through the forum, the heart of any ancient Roman city, to see the ruins of both temples and civic buildings. This is where priests and politicians spent their time, and where government and religion came together. Look at the barracks where Roman gladiators once trained and lived. Don't miss the rebuilt brothel, one of Pompeii's most popular attractions. Pack a hat for summer sun, and wear comfortable shoes. You actually walk on lava rock.

Our guide Italo was fantastic. While 2h isn't nearly enough to see everything, he made shure that we got to experience and learn as much as possible about Pompei. Would defintely recommend this tour to anyone visiting!

We had a wonderful experience with a very knowledgeable & friendly guide who lived locally & had worked as an archaeologist on the site for many years. He brought the place to life by explaining all the little fascinating details. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Especially as Covid has sadly decimated their industry, although this was to our advantage as the sites were quiet & we were the only people on the tour.

I came with my family in June. Lello was an amazing guide for our family of 4 with 2 children. Pompeii has some mature topics and Lello was respectful and aware of our potential concerns with some topics. He discreetly spoke with us to be sure the tour was customized to our family and engaging for our children. He quickly found our 11 year old loved history and answered as many questions as he asked. It was most likely the best historical tour we have had in the 8 years in Europe.

Italo was a great guide. During more than 2 hours we learnt a lot about life in Pompéi just before the eruption. I really recommend this tour.

Our guide Lello was so knowledgable and passionate about Pompeii, he brought everything to life, he explained about the Pompian way of life, what they ate, how they interacted socially, the whole place blew my mind. I love history and could've listened to Lello all day. He was entertaining, very funny and above all so enthralled in his expertise.
I would highly recommend this tour, i think you would miss so much in walking around on your own

Lelo provided a wealth of information and history! We learned more from him in 2.5 hours than we could have learned in 2 days of trying to tour the ruins ourselves. Worth every Euro spent! We avoided the crowds and received a fully comprehensive, detailed experience! Next time I intend to book the full-day tour!

Went on the tour with two friends in November 2019. We were only 6 people in the group, which was great. It was super easy to find the tour group at the entrance, as the guide had a sign with our names on. Our tour guide Lelo was absolutely brilliant! We had such an interactive and fun tour of Pompeii. He told us some amazing stories, and made the visit to Pompeii unforgettable. For us, 2,5h was a good length of the tour, and we walked around a bit on our own afterwards. I would definitely recommend this tour if you're keen on exploring Pompeii with a knowable and passionate guide!

Italo was a wonderful guide. Good humored, knowledgeable, passionate about Pompeii, and connecting with people. We spent a rich and fascinating morning on his tour, and then had the confidence to wander and marvel through the afternoon on our own.

First, he introduced us to the site and taught us how to get around ourselves. He then led us carefully and adeptly through the core highlights of the city life. We got a rich understanding of life of the different classes of people who lived in Pompeii and how they functioned together. He showed us how patterns repeated, and where there were differences.

He cleared up all the elementary school falsehoods I'd learned about Pompeii and its place in the Roman Empire.

Highly recommended!

Booked onto the tour with my teenage daughter. There were 10 people on the tour which at first I thought may be too many but actually was just right. We asked the tour guide if we could see a particular place and she said no problem. The tour guides knowledge was fantastic and there wasn’t any question she didn’t answer.

Roxanne met us at the entry to the Pompeii site and was ready to show us around. She gave us little tidbits of history helped us to feel immersed in the site. As Pompeii is a massive archeological space with too much to see in a year, let alone a single morning, Roxanne brought us to areas to give us the flavor of Pompeii. While showing us around she avoided the most crowded areas, while still getting us to the best. Definitely worth the money.
