TL:DR — this tour is excellent and 1000% worth the time and money. The company was even able to work with our train being delayed 40 minutes so that we wouldn’t be labeled a “no show” and still get to ride up Vesuvius. (If this becomes you, make sure you contact them so they can help you out!)
The Long Version:
My friend and I loved this tour! Roberto was extremely friendly and a pleasure to be around. We were coming in from Sorrento (~1.5hrs from the pick up point) and had left our hotel with enough time to be there 20 minutes early. Unfortunately, our train was delayed 40 minutes and we were afraid we’d miss the tour (the pick up instructions were very clear that being late would forfeit your tour). With an hour before we were supposed to meet, I messaged Berry, the tour director, explaining that our train had left late and we would be missing the pick up. I expected that to be it and we’d miss our tour. Berry messaged me back and we were able to coordinate a new pick up location closer to the station where we’d get off so we could make our tour. After the stress of navigating public transit and then being late, this flexibility and kindness was such a relief! Once we were able to meet up with our guide, Roberto, it was one of the best things we did on our Italy trip. We also got a ton of fun videos and photos of our ride that Roberto took! Their homemade wine was great and a nice way to top off the trip. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Naples & the Coast!

We spent a couple of days doing lots of different things in Naples and this was by far our favourite thing to do! All of the staff were lovely, it was well worth the money, and the views were breathtaking!
I was a complete beginner but my friend had ridden horses before yet the tour guides made sure we were both fully comfortable and enjoyed the experience!
The guide also took lots of photos for us which we loved seeing afterwards!
The horses are very well cared for, and the experience lasted around 3 hours. We loved having the wine and snacks afterwards and the whole day was just amazing. It’s definitely worth doing when in Naples!

Absolutely fabulous morning and highly recommend you booking!
Communication with Berry via WhatsApp was great and Roberto picked us up from our hotel in Piazza Bellini promptly.
Most importantly the horses are all beautifully cared for and loved. They also didn’t feel like the standard ‘riding school ponies’ which are frequently disengaged and follow in a line. The horses we had were responsive and full of beans.
The views are beautiful and Roberto did a great job of explaining each section. He even kindly took photos and videos along the way and sent them to us afterwards.
We returned to the stables to bruschetta, cold water and local wine which was a real treat.
It may be in an Italian thing but they don’t provide riding hats so worth taking one if you’d like. However we didn’t feel unsafe at any point as the horses are very responsive. A really great morning, thank you!

Overall it was a good experience however I've docked two stars for:
- Website clearly states pick up from Naples, Pompeii or Ercolano. We were staying in Sorrento so wanted to be picked up from Pomepeii. 18 hours before meeting (so no free cancellation) we had an email from Berry saying we had to meet at Naples, we couldn't be late and would miss the tour if we were. This required a very very early start, when asking to meet at either of the other stations Berry simply said get up early and the trains often arrive late. I wouldn't recommend if travelling from Sorrento. Quite rude and inflexible.
Additionally the route was a there and back again, very steep, dusty and closed off. The view was good but the route and lack of variety was disappointing and uncomfortable when travelling down. There was no chance to ride the horses properly.

All bad reviews are always about the transportation :)
We are talking about the "Ferragosto" week where there is crazy traffic everywhere. The tour was fully booked and you knew very well Sorrento is not in our free pick up zone when you booked the tour and you knew also you have to take the train to meet the shuttle. As you were the only 2 coming from Sorrento, we asked you to get off at Naples instead of Pompeii - which is couple of stops more - so that we won't have to be in the traffic for hours with other 6 people on the group. It seems fair to us. Especially when you said the reason you insist to be picked up from Pompeii was that you want to have your breakfast in peace; I said then you should wake up early.
And about the tour, we are riding / climbing on a volcano, we follow the way of lava. This is the interesting part of this tour. So it is tight sometimes, dusty, steep... It is not a beach type of horseback riding.

The horseback ride on Mount Vesuvius with Roberto will remain a wonderful memory of our stay in Naples. Roberto was very friendly and gave us a lot of informations during the trip both on Vesuvius and the surroundings and on how to ride horses. He spoke English and even a little of French! Besides, the horses were very friendly, quite calm but attentive when we asked them to move forward. The view at the top is breathtaking. At the end of the tour, we had a small snack with wine, it was very good. Afterwards, Roberto dropped us off at Herculaneum in front of the excavations and not in Naples where he picked us up because we told him that we wanted to visit Herculaneum in the afternoon. In short, it was a great experience, I highly recommend! Kisses to Sultan and Flika our horses for the trip !

Fabulous afternoon riding in the Vesuvius National park.
Really well organised trip with quick replies and clear instructions. We were picked up in Erculano and it’s just 10 minutes to the stables.
I ride but my husband and teenager don’t but that didn’t matter as we all throughly enjoyed the ride over challenging terrain , stopping to admire the beautiful views.
3 of the team came with us and we’re very supportive to my husband and daughter which meant they really enjoyed themselves

This is a hard review to leave, but I feel compelled to let others be aware so they can make their own informed decisions. The tour guide was good. The ride itself felt unsafe, dangerous, haphazard, and was stressful due to numerous dangers present during the ride. I do not recommend this for inexperienced riders. There was no safety training, and little to no ride training at the stable. Helmets were not provided. My horse seemed stressed or annoyed. Most of the trail is steep and narrow, and saturated with large rocks everywhere, smaller loose rocks that the horse kept slipping on, and large, low-hanging branches. The horse I was on seemed to struggle with the ride. Breathing heavy, and slipping on loose rocks. The horse often had to make surprising or sudden movements to traverse the trail. It just all felt very unsafe, notably because if at anytime you were thrown or fell off the horse, there is a high chance of critical injury or worse, due to all the rocks, trees, and steep paths. And the stable staff gave me pause. They came across as very cavalier about safety and the enjoyment of the horses and guests. I would not do this tour again, nor would I recommend it to any of my friends or family.
(This is all in contrast to another horse riding tour in Pompeii here on Trip Advisor that was excellent, using a stable associated with the Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports. There was 15 minutes of professional ride training, lots of safety training, helmets if you wanted, and just a much higher level of care and concern for both the guests and horses.)

Collected on time by Roberto in newish Toyota people carrier (on this occasion from Pompei Scavi)..we were 4, 2 more met us there. 20 min ride to the stables. Straight onto horses. Really well behaved and knew where they were going…my daughter was the only rider but all was good for me. About 40 mins ride up, 10 mins admiring view and 40 mins down. Was long enough…quite steep in places. Water/wine on return…then dropped back where we were picked up. Enjoyable time and would recommend.

Thanks to Roberto we had the best time. Horses were all in first rate condition and obviously very well cared for. We were lucky - we were the only two people in the group and Roberto soon worked out we were experienced riders so the pace was fast and furious at times! Loved every minute of it, views were spectacular, Roberto is very knowledgeable and like I said, horses were in tip top condition and up for a gallop. Thank you Roberto, this was one of the highlights of our holiday. Highly recommended.

Brilliant tour, superb service, possibly the laziest way to climb the Mt. Vesuvius.
Communication was easy, pick-up from the hotel sharp on time and comfortable, horse was easy to ride, views on Naples and surrounding hills stunning, forests beautiful (even in winter). As a tour guide Roberto was most sympathetic, flexible to either talk English or patiently do basic Italian.
I might come back and ask for a longer tour to have more of the same experience.

Hello! We are thinking of booking this experience instead of hiking up the mountain. I head before you’re not allowed to approach the crater on horseback, is that correct?
Also, we have a car and will be moving on from Naples to Pompeii so would it be able to meet at the stables / start point of the ride directly instead of taking a shuttle bus from Naples?
