Itinerary
- 1Driver and Guide option: Your driver will pick you up from your Naples hotel, the Naples railway station or the Naples cruise terminal at your selected departure time and take you to Pompeii, located about 30 minutes away. Here, you’ll be greeted by your private guide and given an introduction to Pompeii. On your 2-hour visit of this famous archaeological site, you’ll learn about what happened here one fateful summer’s day in 79 AD, when Mt Vesuvius erupted and volcanic ash spewed over the entire city. Unaware of the imminent danger, most people continued on with their daily lives and, as a result, the entire town and around 20,000 of its inhabitants were buried under tons of ash and pumice. Nearly 2,000 years later, you can explore the site of this infamous disaster and see first-hand the houses, streets and public buildings miraculously preserved by the volcanic ash. Your private guide, an expert archaeologist, will take you on a private tour of the excavated city, which offers a snapshot of 1st-century Roman life frozen at the moment Pompeii was buried. Explore fascinating sites such as the forum, the thermal baths, several houses and villas, the Lupanare brothel and the House of Vetti with its beautiful frescoes. After your visit to Pompeii, you’ll have some free time to explore more on your own before hopping in the car and heading back to Naples. Driver Only Option: If you prefer to explore the Pompeii ruins independently, the transport-only option offers private round-trip transportation from Naples and lets you spend time in Pompeii on your own. Your driver will wait for you while you wander around Pompeii for a couple of hours, and then take you back to Naples. There is also an audio guide available (additional cost).
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jonbatch0 contributionsBe ready for hairy mountainous drive but you have an expertFriendly driver - tour was as described- got us back on time. Crazy mountainous roads did not expect. Lots of drive time and a reasonable amount of visit time. Personally i would like more visit time and less stopsWritten November 2, 2024
- Christine B0 contributionsWonderful 1/2 day out!Our guide was very knowledgeable, took us to the best places in the time provided! Very interesting!! Would definitely recommendWritten October 18, 2024
- Adam S0 contributionsPrayYou need to go in winter it's less crazy. The problem was waiting for everybody in the morning when we was getting picked up. Honestly the guide was good. I felt we missed out stuff. Now the worst bit was the food. My word it was like canned dog food. Honestly if you have the pizza. Bring your own it's very oily . The Gnocchi was like somthing out a tin in the super market. Your pay 4 euro a coke. Plus your driver will be on his phone driving in the middle of two lanes of traffic. Trust me pray your make it home. All in all it was okWritten October 13, 2024
- 54maireadr0 contributionsa step back to roman times for 4 irish ladieswhat a place higher than i expected as knew it had been covered by 30 ft of ash we paid for a guide 4 of us well worth it history stories explinations no problem really liked the stepinng stones in streets and the no vehicular access It leads to a lot of thought how sofisticated they were how sudden it was the detail visible to everybody a look back in time the roman forum as I imagined it the little shops and the takeaway food of then with the splendour of the rich houses Its a thrill to see actual floor tiles they used.. by the way the squeezed orange juice across the road really hit the spot after great experienceWritten October 11, 2024
- steve p0 contributionsA must seeGreat trip. Well organised with fantastic scenery. Shame it was cloudy but it didn't dampen our mood. A must visit for sureWritten October 9, 2024
- adnaang20240 contributionsDon’t bother, do a self guided tour insteadGuide just rambled on, came away not knowing anything about Pompeii. Waste of time and money. Better off to self exploreWritten October 8, 2024
- Ian00720130 contributionsDon't Go in the Rainy SeasonThe tour operators did the best they could considering the buckets of rain that were falling down throughout the day and, to their credit, they did get us up to Vesuvius and through Pompeii. Would have been happy to skip the spot where they took us to a guy trying to hawk limoncello. That was very unnecessary. The guide was very good as we followed her in the downpour and they did provide us trashbags once we left the restaurant.Written October 4, 2024
- kericulver0 contributionsGreat tripGennaro was great and facilitated everything. Doing both of these in one day is physically tiring but efficient, and with so much to see in Naples, we really enjoyed this trip. Our guide at Pompeii Elisa (sp?) was fantastic and fun. I recommend this trip.Written October 1, 2024
- lucyl9870 contributions3 hours learning about Pompei and how the people lived there over 2,000 years agoAmazing experience, you really need a guide to get the most of it and our guide Alicia was very interesting. It was so informative and much more enjoyable than expectedWritten September 30, 2024
- A9527YXbenw0 contributionsGreat trip and great tour providerThe trip was fantastic - well organised and made the experience extremely easy…..from pickup to guided tour and drop off everything was smooth. The tour operator communicated extremely well prior to and on the day of the tour - well doneWritten September 27, 2024
- ROOZBEHKH0 contributionsBeware! They are terrible and most likely rip you offTerrible people. It's officially a scam. They charged us for a guided tour 180 Euros, but when we went there, they refised to give us a guide and gave us a rubbish iPhone without any headphones. They are working with Project Napolu Service and book through Get Your Guide. After you pay, none of these will respond. GyG is getting a good commission from the scam to bring them on top of the list. It usually says it is likely to finish, but our tour was just the two of us.Written September 26, 2024
- 927jeffreyf0 contributionsImpressiveGreat guide who gave us a plethora of fascinating information. Half day was perfect amount of time to see the highlights.Written September 19, 2024
- DayTrip354480182940 contributionsTour of Pompeii with transportation from Naples.Entire experience was great. Easy to find the meeting spot. Staff was profession and efficient. The two hour tour was a good amount of time to see the highlights of Pompeii and our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and spoke very good English. We did not feel rushed. The bus ride from Napoli was comfortable and made the trip very easy. We only had one day in Napoli and I'm very glad we book this tour and would highly recommend it.Written September 17, 2024
- Q3895DXsharonc0 contributionsPompeii is spectacular but allow time for trafficPompeii is well worth a visit and having a guide made it all the more interesting. I’ve marked it down by 2 stars as the transport there was nearly an hour late due to traffic on the way to collecting us and others and then took nearly 2 hours to get there. Now I know traffic is not controllable but at no point did the driver apologise or let us have an updated ETA. Also what wasn’t factored in was allowing us time, at the end, to grab a drink or have something to eat. We were given 5 minutes to grab a slice of pizza and that was us hurried back into the bus. It was like they had to make up time as we’d arrived late in the first place. A real shame and felt a rush at the end.Written September 17, 2024
- 436fionaf0 contributionsHalf a day in Pompeii is the way to go!We enjoyed this tour and a half way was ample. We were picked up from our hotel at the instructed time and the driver contacted us the night before. Once we arrived, we were greeted by our tour guide who was friendly, helpful and insightful. We walked around the ruins for approximately two hours and were given about half and hour when we finished to get a quick bite to eat and a drink. The public toilet is 50 c € and it is tightly run 😉 Take water and snacks if you want as they aren’t provided and wear comfortable walking shoes. Certainly well worth doing 😊Written September 16, 2024
