Itinerary
- 1See Pompeii’s ancient piazza and Forum, where business dealings, elections, speeches and processions would have played out during Roman times. Wander the site, marvel at the ancient limestone columns still standing today and capture the centuries-old scenery on camera. Continue onward with your guide to the thermal baths, where many of the townsfolk would have bathed, chatted and lived out their daily lives before the eruption. Wander down Via degli Augustali and discover the Lupanare, Pompeii’s brothel. A 2-storey building with five rooms on each floor, the Lupanare is decorated with some of the city’s most lustful frescoes. Your exact route will depend on the crowds and weather conditions.

- kericulver0 contributionsGreat tripGennaro was great and facilitated everything. Doing both of these in one day is physically tiring but efficient, and with so much to see in Naples, we really enjoyed this trip. Our guide at Pompeii Elisa (sp?) was fantastic and fun. I recommend this trip.Written October 1, 2024
- lucyl9870 contributions3 hours learning about Pompei and how the people lived there over 2,000 years agoAmazing experience, you really need a guide to get the most of it and our guide Alicia was very interesting. It was so informative and much more enjoyable than expectedWritten September 30, 2024
- Q3895DXsharonc0 contributionsPompeii is spectacular but allow time for trafficPompeii is well worth a visit and having a guide made it all the more interesting. I’ve marked it down by 2 stars as the transport there was nearly an hour late due to traffic on the way to collecting us and others and then took nearly 2 hours to get there. Now I know traffic is not controllable but at no point did the driver apologise or let us have an updated ETA. Also what wasn’t factored in was allowing us time, at the end, to grab a drink or have something to eat. We were given 5 minutes to grab a slice of pizza and that was us hurried back into the bus. It was like they had to make up time as we’d arrived late in the first place. A real shame and felt a rush at the end.Written September 17, 2024
- thebaldcritic0 contributionsMust See Double Attractions As The Two Are Linked To Tell A StoryIf you are in Naples, then ‘From Naples: Pompeii Ruins & Mount Vesuvius Day Tour’ is a must do. Please wear comfy walking shoes, clothes and definitely a large bottle of water, as this tour’s duration is 7.5hrs, which you will be spending most of your time outdoors – no shelter. Our tour guide was excellent. He clearly showed that he has passion in this field, he was full of knowledge, very informative and straight to the point. I have been on tours where tour guides just waffle on and you can clearly see, that they have lost a lot of people’s attention by mid tour, but not our tour guide… sorry, I can’t remember his name (I have attached a photo of our tour guide – the one wearing a cap and orange quietvox device around his neck and holding a bottle of water). If you get this particular tour guide, you would know that you’re in good hands. Our tour guide described each area in great detail, that you can visually see life in Pompeii before Mt Vesuvius did its thing that is famously known for… buried Pompeii and the population beneath a blanket of ash and pumice. Our tour guide also explained that the sculptures displayed in Pompeii are replicas and if you want to see the genuine sculptures, you can find them housed in a museum in Naples ‘Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli’. You can also find the dead bodies of Pompeii at this same museum to further preserve them, the ones you see at Pompeii are made from the moulds of the original bodies. With this information, I was in two worlds, I wasn’t too sure if I should take photos of the fake sculptures or not and decided not to waste my time taking a plethora of photos of something that’s not genuine and focussed on the building structures in Pompeii instead. But on a positive note, at least the city of Pompeii couldn’t be housed in the museum. Having stated that, I highly recommend to do the tour, it’s worth your time. I found the information and seeing Pompeii in person very fascinating. If you have finished drinking your water during the tour, it’s all good because there are running water fountains in Pompeii ruins for you to refill your bottle. If you want to see the “real” Pompeii… the complete package, it is best to do the tour plus a trip to Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. We couldn’t do that, as we didn’t have time to squeeze in another day in Naples. After the tour, you return from the beginning, where you can have something to eat / refresh or do what we did and brought our own snacks instead. After our lunch break, we moved onto our next stop… Mt Vesuvius. By then, we were exhausted with the amount of walking we had done already in Pompeii in 34+ degree Celsius heatwave, in fact, our tour guide told us not to push ourselves to do the walk and just enjoy the magnificent views from the Tirone-Alto Vesuvius Forest Reserve – views are equally amazing. But I was determined to walk to the top, just to say “I did it” and see the majestic crater of Mt Vesuvius. It’s not that bad of a walk, as the bus stops close by – approximately 1100 metres walk to the top from where the bus dropped us off. It took me at least half an hour to reach the top of Mt Vesuvius, including stops in between, taking the view and catching my breath. It was an effort and I highly recommend to bring a bottle of water, you will need it. I would definitely recommend to do this tour, rather than walking aimlessly around the Pompeii ruins, let your tour guide take care of the planning and sharing the finer details about the history of Pompeii, it’s well organised as the tour guide knew the interesting places to go to and it’s also hassle-free with traveling between the two places with an aircon coach, no stress of how to get from A to B or parking – value for money.Written September 5, 2024
- antibes20050 contributionsPompeii from SalernoEasy drive from cruise port to Pompeii. We had a very professional guide around the ruins for two hours and 15 mins later we were on our Mercedes transport back to the port. Don't go in August though. We melted in the heat and there were lots of tourists.Written August 25, 2024
- trevisi20240 contributionsVesuvius and PompeiiGreat tour. A little more time at Mt Vesuvius would have been awesome but it’s a lot to fit into one day. There was just enough time to get to the top and back down. If you want a leisurely walk then stopping at the first station is your best bet.Written August 19, 2024
- P6735GAaprilh0 contributionsGreat Family DayWe really enjoyed this tour. The company was great about communicating, the bus was comfortable, with A/C. They made a stop so we could have a snack and use the restroom. We went to Mount Vesuvius first, and they gave us plenty of time to walk to the top and take pictures. It was so cool to see inside the volcano and the views from the top were incredible! We then drove to Pompeii and had a delicious pizza lunch, and then toured the ruins. Our guide was great, she gave us time to look around each place we went and had interesting facts to tell us about what life was like then. We even got to see the bodies. We had time to see a lot of the area and ant the end to buy a cold drink. I would definitely recommend this tour.Written July 27, 2024
- 394daniellej0 contributionsPompeii, lunch and a hike! The beginning of the tour was a little chaotic but to be expected for such a popular tourist destination. All connections were good. Our bus driver to get to Mt. Vesuvius was amazing! Tight curvy road! Hiking to the top of the mountain was not easy especially in the heat, but we'll worth the effort for the views. My suggestion is to dress appropriately!Written July 14, 2024

- saritc_130 contributionsWorth the pricePompeii and Mount Vesuvius are amazing. Taking a tour makes it easier to organize and even cheaper than doing it yourself. Well organized, the guide knew where to go and how to make things happen even when the place was full of tourists. The route to the volcano was very scary but the bus driver was very professional and experienced. Very well recommendedWritten June 27, 2024
- lauriewI6308QO0 contributionsPompyay!!!! Definitely recommend both Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius tour!It was an incredible experience walking the streets of Pompeii and learning about this ancient civilization. Our tour guide provided lots of intriguing details about their culture. Lunch was choice of gnocchi, salad or pizza. It was just OK. Then, we left for Mt. Vesuvius. While the hike is only about 1 mile up, it is pretty much straight up hill and full sun! It is worth it! Looking inside the crater is pretty cool and the view of the coast is incredible! Definitely recommend!Written June 22, 2024
- avedisg20180 contributionsUtter disappointment. AvoidNothing can say I am very disappointed more than the fact I'm writing this review and route back to Naples. Overall disappointing experience. This could be a rambling review so the moral is avoid this.company as you will be disappointed multiple times in one day.just find someone else. The first issue and the most problematic one is how rushed this toure is. Many other tours in Naples start early at 8 or 9. This one stars at 10. (Something that should have been a red flag form the get go). Then it's a big tour and it takes longer to collect people. By the time you arrive to Pompeii you barely have any time left. And the guide just flies over the ruins. And the worst of all is you make all this effort to come and then you don't see the most famous victim casts. It is supposed to be the highlight of the visit and you simply miss it because the guide wants to finish fast. And this is our last day in Italy ( all the way from Australia) so no chance to come back here. Thanks for ruining this experience for us. Many other tours offer at least 3 hours in Pompeii. This company only 2. And if only they start an hour early. We could have had a more complete visit to Pompeii. But as it stands I am not sure if this visit was actually worth it. Was supposed to be the pinnacle of our month in Europe, but instead it left a bitter feeling of time and money wasted for not much. And just to clarify this is not my first tour in Naples. Others were way better experiences. The trip to volcano was ok although also rushed. And to top it all off so many people on the bus the me and my partner had to sit separately, that's how couples do tours together. Simply avoid this company even if it the last one left. Not worth it at all. I will not name names here because I don't think that is fair since it is probably a above their pay to make those stupid planning decisions. Utter disappointment and I feel these guys tarnish the reputation of good tour providers.Written June 19, 2024
- Mrose940 contributionsIgnore the last review. It's brilliant!I'm unsure what the previous review was expecting when booking a day trip from Rome to Pompeii. Unless they were under the impression that the tour operator had invented a machine to teleport them, a simple Google search prior to booking to check the distance between locations would have suggested the time it takes each way. I'd urge you to take their poor rating with a pinch of salt. This trip was the highlight of our trip to Rome and I would fully recommend it. The transport sets off at 07.30 from Rome, stopping one time for 15 minutes and arriving at around 10.30. We had some free time to buy water, food, go to the toilet etc at the entrance of the park before meeting with the tour guide to get our headsets. The shops at the entrance to the park are expensive, so I'd suggest bringing things with you if you don't want to pay high prices. We bought a sandwich and orange juice which was €12. The tour of the archeological park was amazing. We did the English tour and the guide was informative and funny. Starting around 11.10, lasting just over two hours with around 15 minutes spare time to take photos in the main square of Pompeii, where you can see Mount Vesuvius in the background. You then leave the park, so the previous review is correct in the sense that there is no free time to explore the city yourselves, however, we felt that more time exploring the city ourselves wouldn't have given us any more insight or knowledge that hadn't already been covered on the tour. When the bus driver drops you off, he tells you when and where he will pick you up, for us it was 2.30 at the same place he drops you off, so if having no free time to explore yourself if a deal breaker then it in theory would be possible to hand the headset back to the guide, split off from the group before leaving the park, skip the lunch and have the additional hour or so in the park, although nobody on our tour did this. Ths restaurant for lunch is just across the road from the entrance to the park. The pizza was good, not outatanding but certainly not bad, photo attached, and included is water and Coca-Cola. The bus back started at 2.30 and we did not stop at all, although the driver said if somebody needed to then we could just tell him. The bus is indeed cold in the morning journey as the aircon is on and the temperature is cooler, but is lovely in the afternoon when you need it. We arrived back at 17.10. Overall, although it's a long day it was the best site seeing of our trip and we are so happy we booked!Written June 16, 2024

Did get picked up from a spot near hotel, got a WhatsApp message the night before giving us a phone store to meet outside of. Took a van to a point with other buses and then took a large bus to Pompeii. Once there, got sorted in to groups and began the tour. Tour is of the architectural ruins with all the artifacts removed and in various museums. Was very hot and crowded and difficult to hear. The main attractions like houses etc had long lines of tour groups waiting for their turns to walk through. After the tour, we were given an hour of “free time” around the tourist shops outside of the ruins. Then spent about 30-45 minutes getting organized on to different vans to go to different drop off spots. Left Pompeii to go back to Napoli around 2:45 which we felt was very late for the half day. Overall not worth time and money, would recommend stopping at Pompeii stop off the train to look around the museum and walk through quickly instead if u want to see it.

What a fantastic trip. We booked late the evening before and the communication was fantastic , woke up to a WhatsApp message with all info on pick up location including a link for Google maps. We met at main station and picked up in a mercedes bus , a short drive to Pompeii the group was split up into different language tours. Our guide was Alecia, she was brilliant ,funny and very knowledgeable and spoke great English. We walked around for 2 hours and enjoying from start to finish. The only downside is we wishes we had booked the full day tour , continuing to Sorrento it would be worth every penny, or a longer combined trip at Pompeii .We chose this trip as we had a later evening flight so would highly recommend if your short for time like us or hanging around for a flight. Group size was good, and communication we had no issues with as previously mentioned in other reviews. Thank you so much for a great day.

This tour will get you to where you want to go but not offer much beyond that, and it was poorly organized. We arrived at the park around 10:40am and then sat idle until 11:05am before we started the tour. Why? I don’t know because it’s unclear why we would need this much time to get set up and go. The tour of the site (a little under two hours) focused on the very basic elements of the ruins and never provided much of a narrative about the community nor about the eruption/destruction. I can learn this elsewhere, of course, but you would think this information would be included on the tour. We concluded our visit of the park just before 1:00pm. Then, instead of departing for Naples, the group was told we would be split three ways - a group continuing on to Vesuvius, a group going to Sorrento, and a group returning to Napoli. Those of us returning to Napoli were told to return to the meeting point we were already at in 40 minutes. So, as part of this tour, those of us solely on the half-day tour spent a collective hour just being idle. We finally returned to Napoli just after 2:00pm. I don’t feel the cost of the half-day tour matches what you get from it. Until the tour is managed more efficiently and time is maximized, I wouldn’t recommend it to others and would advise you arrange alternative transport to Pompeii and then pay for an entrance ticket with an audio guide.

Interesting and worthwhile tour. We met adjacent to the Napoli Centrale train station, short walk to the bus, about 1/2 hour ride to Pompeii, another short walk to the main entrance. The tour guide was very knowledgable and attentive to the group of about 25 people. This outside group tour used individual radio receivers which did not work well - you needed to be within about 3-4 meters of the guide to hear the info, and that was only possible for about half of the group at any time. It was a great overview of Pompeii however. We concluded back at the entrance, enjoyed some gelato, hopped the bus back to Napoli. Not the most organized tour we've been on but really educational and much better than we could have done on our own.

This was by far the best tour we took during our time in Naples. The tour guide who was leading our tour told us she had been providing tours of Pompeii for over 30 years and it was easy to tell she had an incredible knowledge base of all things Pompeii. She spoke perfect English, and was continually asking the group whether we all understood what we were seeing and what she was telling us, before moving on to the next point of interest. The tour also helped us understand that like today's cities it too had both its high-points and its flaws. As far as Pompeii itself, we were amazed at both its size and how advanced the folks who lived there were (for its time). This led to us ask ourselves what happened to human civilization during the subsequent centuries known as the Dark Ages - which obviously didn't include many of the daily human comforts that folks in Pompeii (and also Herculaneum up the road) took for granted. We went on 4 different tours while we were in Naples, and as noted at the outset, this one was by far the best. Much of that praise must be given to our superior tour guide. We would highly recommend using this tour company, and hopefully all their guides are as good as ours was.

This was a big group of people. It's challenging for a guide to make it a great experience with a large group, but this guide did not make it any easier. He scolded & berated a group with our group for taking pics rather than keeping up with his very quick pace. He seemed in a bad mood and came across as somewhat rude overall, rushing everyone through the site, explaining things before many of the group arrived within earshot. He did not actually yell at my family, but his treatment of others made us uncomfortable. This is a site that benefits from someone explaining what you are looking at since there is so much behind what you are looking at, but I would not recommend this tour, esp for the price.

This tour was great as it was packed with as much as could be seen in a short period of time. We were contacted the night before with a meeting place/time a block from our hotel in Naples (Hotel Matilde). We were brought to Pompeii in a very nice and comfortable van with another group of tourists. The guide was very clear about the plan for the day. Once we got to the ruins of Pompeii, we met our tour guide and were given a radio so that we would be able to hear her at all times. Our group consisted of about 15 people including our family of 5. We saw and learned a lot. Once the tour was over, we boarded the van back to Naples. There was some free time where we could do some shopping or get a snack/drink as well. Overall, it was a great tour and exactly what we were expecting in every way. Our tour guide Francesca was wonderful.

We were met directly off our cruise ship with our name on a board. We did have to wait a while for others in the group but this was the fault of the travellers not the tour company (there's always someone late who doesn't care about the rest of the group!). The air conditioned bus went directly to Pompeii, we didn't need to do any other pick ups. It would have been nice to have a tour guide on the bus but it wasn't too long a trip so was fine. There was a bit of a wait while we were organised into groups and had a toilet stop (you need to pay for the toilet). We were then introduced to our tour guide, Maria Russi.
The only problem at the start was that we had a discounted ticket for an under 18 (my son is 17). He was taken away separately which wasn't nice. After waiting for him and the other under 18, they came rushing over asking for their passports (I assume to prove their age). We should have been informed of this in advance, luckily we did have his passport and he was finally allowed to enter.
Maria made the day for us. She was an excellent tour guide. Her English was perfect, she was obviously very well informed and experienced, she added interest and humour, was very patient with everyone in the group (even when one American family were quite rude) and tried to adapt to everyone's interests and needs. Obviously Pompeii is extremely busy with tourists but Maria was able to navigate the crowds and we weren't too big a group. We could always hear her clearly through the headsets. She stopped at some very interesting sites for us. Our whole family (from the 17 year old to the grandparents in their 80s) thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Pompeii and learned so much. The half day was enough for us with the walking and the heat, but there was lots more to see if you are able to stay longer.
There was quite a wait after the tour and nowhere to sit, a short walk to the bus and again a nice air conditioned bus direct back to our ship. I would definitely recommend this trip.

This was a great experience! The pick up service was so helpful, instructions were clear, the tour guide was great, I would really recommend this to anyone who wants to see Pompeii. They took a lot of stress out of planning for this day. They were also very accommodating as I was ill on the day we were supposed to go and they went above and beyond to ensure we could go the next day. Thank you so much for a great time!

The company picked us up right outside the port, with a much needed air-conditioned mini bus! There was some mix up with which guests needed to be on which bus, which included 20 mins of waiting around (with little communication as to what was going on).
The tour itself was brilliant, all thanks to our guide Michele. He was sure to check the ages of the children in the group to tailor his anecdotes appropriately, and was hilarious, informative and incredibly knowledgeable!
It is HOT in Pompeii in August. Obviously. Wear trainers as the flooring is uneven, take a hat as there is minimal shade, and bring your water bottle as you can refill.
We were also given free time after the tour to get a pizza/ beer/ gelato and there are also market stalls selling the usual touristy bits right outside the entrance to the city.

My group has more than 11 people, but the reservation form only allows a max of 11 people. How would I do a reservation for more people?

Act like any of your group over the 11 just ran into each other, what a coincidence!

What is the maximum number of people on the tour?
Is a COVID test within 48 hours still required in summer 2022?
Written June 23, 2022
I did the tour around 6/14. There were no Covid requirements and no masking requirements. We had about 12 in our group. Each person has an earpiece. Don’t know if there is a defined maximum group size

I would like to take the Pompeii tour on Jun 3, my grandauther and me have the 2 doses of the covid vaccine. Do we still need to take the covid 19 test to enter Pompeii?

No testing required for us anyway. The covid cert seems to be perfect for anywhere we found. Enjoy the tour.

Hola estoy interesado en visitar Pompeya con un guia Español sin interferencias de otros idiomas, mi pregunta es si las explicaciones del Guia son solo en Español.

Can our group of 5 be picked up at the Palazzo Alabardieri Hotel? If not how far would we have to walk?
Written February 2, 2020
You need to ask them this directly. I had to phone them. Our hotel wasn't on the list and they picked us up about a three minute walk away.

We will be arriving from rome, via train. Should we arrive on the 9:15am train or 10:28am. Assuming pick up is at 10:30 @ train station

I'm guessing you don't often take the train. The later one allows no margin for error whatsoever - it's not even to be considered. Take the previous one. It might be on time - you can have a coffee. If it's late you will be glad you didn't miss your tour. Have a great time.
