    Delicious Day Tour
The day tour was perfect for us while acclimating to the time change. James was incredibly knowledgeable on the culture, food and drinks as well as giving us insider info on where to visit afterwards. We had so many different tapas that I wouldn’t have normally ordered and they were all delicous. Such a fun tour, thank you James!!

    Lunch Tapas in Madrid
James did a fantastic tour! Loved all the stops. James did a nice little walk around Historic places in Madrid and gave some info, but the real focus was on food. James had great advice while in Madrid too. I hope to do this tour again when I bring my husband. This trip was with my 20 year old daughter only. My daughter told me to write a review and give it a 10! So high praise from her too.

Great tasty tapas and cool bars!
James was very prompt at the meeting place and explained much of how the evening would run. We were only a group of 4 this time not including our guide, James. We visited 3 tapas bars and then a bar to end with a ‘night cap’. Each place was unique and James gave us a bit of history about each one. We had a variety of dietary concerns that James did a great job managing while giving us a variety of super tasty tapas! This is the second time I’ve done this tour, and I would highly recommend it to others. Not only did we stop at 4 places, but we also got a brief history as you walk through the city. Well done James!!

This was the highlight of my trip to Madrid! James was so lovely and informative and made the whole evening really enjoyable. We were able to try so many different tapas at different places and he was even able to accommodate my pescatarian dietary requirement. A fantastic and authentic tapas tour !
This was a fabulous tour! We really appreciated the format which progressed from more familiar tastes to more adventurous bites, and the bars which though crowded at times felt very authentic. Our guide James interlaced his stories about tapas with history and cultural tidbits which only enriched the experience. Definitely recommend going at night. Five stars!

James Frazer’s tour of where to find the best tapas in central Madrid can’t be beat. He not only guided us to where to find specialties such as seafood, ham varieties, blue cheese, and blood sausage but we also got a rundown on drinks from cider (sidra) to beer to tinto verano to legitimate mixed drinks. James explained tapas etiquette to us - yes throw your olive pits and napkins on the floor - and encouraged us to do as the locals do. Expect bars and taverns to be loud and packed with lively people, dive head in and order your first drink and see what tapas comes with it, eat, drink, and be merry and expect to stand up while doing so and don’t hesitate to move on to other establishments to taste their offerings. By the end of the night we found ourselves sated and happy and all the more informed thanks to James’s entertaining local history lessons. A word of warning: you will not be going to tourist spots with offerings of sangria and peanuts. You will be experiencing the real deal and the somewhat modest fee charged is worth every cent. Vale!

We had our tour this week (mid January and earlier in the week), so there were only 2 of us. James, however, was personable and fun, made us feel comfortable, and gave us enough info so that we feel confident going to the bars by ourselves. He also gave us lots of tips of areas in the city to explore. Highly recommend.

Having never been to Madrid before we joined on to one of James's tours from a recommendation from family. James went out of his way to make us feel like one of the locals and showed us some outstanding places. We learned not just about the specific food, but also culture. When walking along between the bars he pointed out things that we otherwise wouldn't have spotted. With most tours the tour guide rattles through the stuff they're wanting to talk about, but with James he made it really funny and we had a good laugh! Naturally he's a very engaging and friendly, something essential from a tour guide.

Last night I tried food that I've never tried before and had an absolute blast. One of the bars there was a tradition of airrating Cider, which was hilarious! We all were terrible at it, but that's half the fun.

The tour was extremely engaging, and fun. We spent about an hour in each bar and nicely it felt like about 10 minutes. Good food, good company. What's there not to enjoy?

I would recommend this to anybody who is looking to enjoy an evening trying lots of different food and drinks.

As someone who doesn't drink too much there was no expectation to drink anything or eat anything. I was worried about this before arriving, but quickly put at ease. James can accommodate all. There was one person in the group who was vegetarian not a problem! And there was another person who had special dietary requirements. Again, James picked out food that everybody should have and when and his way to make sure there was none of the ingredients that this individual was allergic to in the food.

A title says this was the highlight of our trip, and will be talked about for a long time. Amazing!!

Many thanks for your review, it was a pleasure to meet you and I'm glad we lived up to the family's recommendation!!! We always try to take you to bars you might not otherwise visit to eat food you might not otherwise try and show you how the Madrileños do the tapas thing!! Our pay-as-you-go system where the food and drink in the first bar is included in the first bar and thereafter clients pay for what they consume allows us to personalize things according to the likes/dislikes of the group on the night and if we are informed in advance we can cope with most requirements/allergies!!!! If you are ever back in Madrid, do join us again as we have lots more to show you!!!

This is a great tour to do early in your time in Madrid. James is a very good guide to both Tapas and the Spanish culture around restaurants and food. It was easy to find the starting point of the tour. James arranged it so that the first and last restaurants had booked seats and in between it was more like the tapas experience of locals. There was plenty to eat and drink. You paid for the tour and the food in the first restaurant then you selected and paid as you went in the other restaurants. James held the money and was very careful to get the best value and respond to the group. I was staying on my own for a few days in Madrid and it was a great way to have dinner with other pleasant and amusing people. I learnt a lot about Madrid and got suggestions as to places to eat for the rest of my trip.

This is the best food tour in Spain!

I did a few good tours throughout Spain and I have to say James has curated the best local tapas and value for money.

Even in August when some places are closed, James put on a brilliant tour and even highlighted some history and fun facts that other city guides didn’t point out.

Just note that the fee for the tour covers the first restaurant (first of four stops), the rest is a cash pool of about 20-30€ additionally. Great value for food and drinks!

Again, I cannot recommend this tour more.

If you want to get a good meal in Madrid, and especially Tapas, then this tour is for you!

Firstly, what you may think of as Tapas back home as being small dishes with one or two small cuts of meat and swimming in sauce, FORGET ALL THAT!!!!!

This is the real stuff, and James (a fellow Scot!) is a fantastic guide who will walk you around Madrid and give you one of the best meals that you will ever have!

The night basically involves walking around 3-4 taverns/bars/restaurants of different regions of Spain that are all within walking distance of each other in central Madrid.

The night gets off to a strong start with a Northern Spain restaurant, where you get many local dishes to that region, and also a drink of Spanish Cider from the region, which must be poured from a great height in order to drink it.

After this we walked a short distance to our next restaurant, which was a really lovely Galician (far north-west Spain region), where we probably spent the longest, and the most filling restaurant we were got a mixtures of vegetables that were to die for, and some of the most tender meat cuts that I have ever tasted!

After this we visited a sea food restaurant, and while I am not a fish eater, James really does go the extra mile to keep you fed, and ordered me a meat, egg and chip platters (which actually made most the fish eaters jealous!).

By this point we are all rather full, and so the night ends with a night cap in a local bar.

Usually food tours are something that do not really interest me, as usually the guide has a deal with a local bar and will just get you the most basic thing they do on the menu, and spend more time filling you with beer and wine...... this tour on the other hand could not be any further away from that!

Highly recommended tour to do if you are in Madrid and want to eat like a king, and James is one of the best guides about!

We were in Madrid in December 2024. We were visiting our daughter who just moved to Madrid. We wanted to hit the town on our last night and experience some authentic Spanish food and end our night on a rooftop bar. Our tour guide was warm, funny and very informative. He was great keeping the group together with some huge holiday crowds and making everyone feel involved and special. I highly recommend doing this tour. I believe our tour guide was Mario.

My family and I went on the tapas tour with two other families. James was fun and accommodating from the very beginning. The tour had a great combination of history, city touring, wine exploring, and tapa tasting of course. At each restaurant, James would recommend dishes and drinks for us to try while giving us the history behind those recommendations. Id highly recommend this tour!

Without a doubt, the highlight of our Madrid experience. The Tapas tour is an ecclectic mix of a foodie bar crawl with a scavenger hunt interspersed with the snarky insight of a Scotsman. James is a vertible gem with a wealth of local knowledge and connections. He continued to provide information and assistance for the duration of our stay rather than for the duration of the experience. We were too busy eating, drinking, and enjoying to remember to take pictures. Our teenage boys (18,18,14) had such a great time that they never took out their cell phones. I would encourage everyone to always answer Yes if James asks you to try something. We will definitely do this again anytime we are in Madrid. I would give him an 11 if the scale would allow me.
