Your food and walking tour begin in central Madrid in the early evening. In a small group limited to 10, visit the first of several local bars and restaurants to enjoy tapas and a drink. At each subsequent bar, food and drinks are purchased at your own expense. As you wander between each venue, your guide provides insight into Madrid’s culinary culture and history, and highlights illuminated points of interest. Rub shoulders with locals and opt to remain in the final bar after bidding your guide farewell.

James Frazer’s tour of where to find the best tapas in central Madrid can’t be beat. He not only guided us to where to find specialties such as seafood, ham varieties, blue cheese, and blood sausage but we also got a rundown on drinks from cider (sidra) to beer to tinto verano to legitimate mixed drinks. James explained tapas etiquette to us - yes throw your olive pits and napkins on the floor - and encouraged us to do as the locals do. Expect bars and taverns to be loud and packed with lively people, dive head in and order your first drink and see what tapas comes with it, eat, drink, and be merry and expect to stand up while doing so and don’t hesitate to move on to other establishments to taste their offerings. By the end of the night we found ourselves sated and happy and all the more informed thanks to James’s entertaining local history lessons. A word of warning: you will not be going to tourist spots with offerings of sangria and peanuts. You will be experiencing the real deal and the somewhat modest fee charged is worth every cent. Vale!

Highlight of our short stay in Madrid!! 👌
Having never been to Madrid before we joined on to one of James's tours from a recommendation from family. James went out of his way to make us feel like one of the locals and showed us some outstanding places. We learned not just about the specific food, but also culture. When walking along between the bars he pointed out things that we otherwise wouldn't have spotted. With most tours the tour guide rattles through the stuff they're wanting to talk about, but with James he made it really funny and we had a good laugh! Naturally he's a very engaging and friendly, something essential from a tour guide.

Last night I tried food that I've never tried before and had an absolute blast. One of the bars there was a tradition of airrating Cider, which was hilarious! We all were terrible at it, but that's half the fun.

The tour was extremely engaging, and fun. We spent about an hour in each bar and nicely it felt like about 10 minutes. Good food, good company. What's there not to enjoy?

I would recommend this to anybody who is looking to enjoy an evening trying lots of different food and drinks.

As someone who doesn't drink too much there was no expectation to drink anything or eat anything. I was worried about this before arriving, but quickly put at ease. James can accommodate all. There was one person in the group who was vegetarian not a problem! And there was another person who had special dietary requirements. Again, James picked out food that everybody should have and when and his way to make sure there was none of the ingredients that this individual was allergic to in the food.

A title says this was the highlight of our trip, and will be talked about for a long time. Amazing!!

We always try to take you to bars you might not otherwise visit to eat food you might not otherwise try and show you how the Madrileños do the tapas thing!! Our pay-as-you-go system where the food and drink in the first bar is included in the first bar and thereafter clients pay for what they consume allows us to personalize things according to the likes/dislikes of the group on the night and if we are informed in advance we can cope with most requirements/allergies!!!! If you are ever back in Madrid, do join us again as we have lots more to show you!!!

Great trip to do when you arrive
This is a great tour to do early in your time in Madrid. James is a very good guide to both Tapas and the Spanish culture around restaurants and food. It was easy to find the starting point of the tour. James arranged it so that the first and last restaurants had booked seats and in between it was more like the tapas experience of locals. There was plenty to eat and drink. You paid for the tour and the food in the first restaurant then you selected and paid as you went in the other restaurants. James held the money and was very careful to get the best value and respond to the group. I was staying on my own for a few days in Madrid and it was a great way to have dinner with other pleasant and amusing people. I learnt a lot about Madrid and got suggestions as to places to eat for the rest of my trip.

Best food tour in Spain
This is the best food tour in Spain!

I did a few good tours throughout Spain and I have to say James has curated the best local tapas and value for money.

Even in August when some places are closed, James put on a brilliant tour and even highlighted some history and fun facts that other city guides didn’t point out.

Just note that the fee for the tour covers the first restaurant (first of four stops), the rest is a cash pool of about 20-30€ additionally. Great value for food and drinks!

Again, I cannot recommend this tour more.

My family and I went on the tapas tour with two other families. James was fun and accommodating from the very beginning. The tour had a great combination of history, city touring, wine exploring, and tapa tasting of course. At each restaurant, James would recommend dishes and drinks for us to try while giving us the history behind those recommendations. Id highly recommend this tour!

Amazing Tapas & Great Times
The evening tapas tour was definitely one of the highlights of our stay in Madrid. It started about 7:30 in the evening and finished close to 11:30 PM. The tour guide was amazing. Not only was he very knowledgeable about Tapas and it’s history, but also about the history of Madrid. It was an enjoyable and easy walk to four different tapas restaurants. At each restaurant we sampled three or four different types of tapas. The camaraderie and interchange between those on the tour and the tour guide made for a truly enjoyable and memorable experience. We paid a certain fee to start off the tapas tour which covered drinks and tapas at the first restaurant. We were then told that for an additional fee our guide would order all our tapas and drinks. We sampled hot tapas and cold tapas, including the famous Iberian ham. Remember it includes an alcoholic drink at each establishment. For me that was a lot and I had to pace myself. The tour guide also asked for our preferences and tailored our tapas samples to our group, i.e., there was one woman who was not big on seafood and so we ordered a vegetarian tapas at one of the establishment that featured seafood. It was a great idea and once again it enhanced the entire experience. One of the nice things about this tour was that it was less expensive than other tour companies for the simple reason if you couldn’t make it, you weren’t out as much money. So, in my case, my wife was not able to make it due to her health, thus, we are out a lot less money. It’s a great concept, as well as, a must do in Madrid!

Many thanks for taking the time to write us a review and we are delighted you enjoyed your evening. Just to clarify for other clients, tours start at 8pm (sometimes we can also offer a 7pm start) and last approximately 4 hours. The tour fee includes the drinks and tapas in the first bar. Thereafter clients pay for what they eat and drink so they can decide whether to splash out or not. We calculate that visitors will spend a total of c.EUR30-35pp on food and drink on the night and will have eaten and drunk to their stomach´s content. This is likely to work out cheaper as part of a group. This pay-as-you-go system allows us to personalize things on the night according to the likes/dislikes of the group, Whilst clients may choose to drink alcohol in each bar that is completely up to you and as a soft drink in Spain is more expensive than a beer it tends to work out pretty much the same. Many thanks again and if you are back this way please get in touch as we have much more to show you, or do try us out in Seville.

Excellent - service, tour, and food

The tour was excellent especially as a solo traveller. Tour guide was knowledgeable and personable so the best of both worlds!

One of the highlights of this tour is that the Tapas are not preplanned at most of the stops, so while you will have to pay more on top of the tour fee it is quite reasonable and allows flexibility with ordering. The guide surveys the guests and gets a feel for what everyone would like, so chances are high you'll find something you'll like even if you are on the pickier or selective side.

Tour guide was also great about my food allergy which is always a plus in my books!

Would recommend doing this at the beginning of your stay as the guide also has so great general recommendations.

Fantastic Tapas cultural evening.
Great experience, James has the personality and knowledge making this overall an excellent evening.
We purposely chose to do this tour on our first evening in Madrid and highly recommend it.
James took us to four very different venues and shared his inside knowledge.
There were 7 in our group - and a lovely interesting mix of personalities.
The additional cost per person was good value for the evening, and we certainly didn’t need breakfast the next day.

Had an amazing few hours wandering around Madrid with James and the crew. Ate more than we could handle, but was so worth it! James kept us on schedule, taught us some of the local traditions, and was definitely a great guide for the night! Would highly recommend if you've only got a few days and would like a local's guide on exploring Madrid

Great tour!
Great food tour! James is a great host he definitely has the personality for this. You also get short history lessons as you walk through the city. Everything is done in a casual way abd I like the pay as you go concept. You end up ordering just the right amount of food/drinks for the group. The last bar/restaurant was our favorite with the mushrooms on bread and shark.
