Wonderful tour of Besalu and Girona
We loved our private day tour of Besalu and Girona with Gerard. There are 10 of us, 4 adults and 6 children, ages ranging from 5 to 14. Arranging the tour was easy, communication with BCN Hidden Tours was fast and clear. Gerard helped us decide on a tour that was just right for us. On the day of the tour, Gerard picked us up from our apartment in Barcelona in a comfortable minibus (with a driver). Gerard shared interesting historical tidbits about Barcelona, Girona and Catalonia in general during the drive. Gerard made Besalu and Girona come alive for us - he knows those towns so well! He accommodated our interests and remained flexible with the kids' needs. Gerard is incredibly knowledgeable, speaks 7 languages fluently (his English is perfect!), and clearly loves what he does. He is easy to connect with, both for adults and kids. Overall, just an incredible experience. I very enthusiastically recommend Gerard and BCN Hidden Tours.

It's like being shown around by a friend
If you're not into touristy type tours with strict schedules but would like to learn about the places you are going then I would recommend BCN Hidden Tours. Gerard is super easy going and very open so it was more like a Spanish friend showing us around his home town than a tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and shared interesting bits and pieces of information as they came up naturally as well as the basics of the history of Costa Brava. We stopped at a great place for lunch. We ate while Gerard went off for a while to do his own thing. If I did another tour with BCN I think I'd like one with more walking next time. This one's pretty easy going which I'm sure is perfect for most though.

          Costa brava
Great trip! Gerard was attentive to all our needs, well informed, and very flexible. We never felt rushed unlike other trips which force their schedules on you. His lunch suggestion was spot on; a beautiful restaurant, great location and wonderful food. I would recommend him.

          A beautiful day
We had a fantastic day with our host seeing the wonderful sights of Costa brava. We learnt a lot about the history that we would otherwise never have known. We stopped for a beautiful lunch. It was a very personalised experience and felt more like being shown around by a friend with deep local knowledge than being on a “tour”. Great day!

          Waste of a day
We expected more hiking. It was only 15 minutes of an easy walk. Why the restrictions on pregnancy etc.? Lunch was not provided and not offered as a stop until we were starving and requested a break. We drove through rice fields for 45 minutes with no stop. No bathroom stops without our asking. Snacks were suitable for 10 yr olds. One water per person and lots of juice boxes. We ran through each village with no casual exploration. We felt like we were on a tour bus that was on a strict schedule not like a private tour.

Perfect Private Full Day Custom Tour With Gerard!
I highly recommend BCN Hidden Tours!! From start to finish we had an amazing experience. The booking and confirmation process was simple and efficient. We wanted to combine pieces of several tours into a (long) full day tour. Our guide,Gerard, created an itinerary that was perfect. We visited a costal village along Costa Brava, as well as the towns of Girona and Besalu. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, along with a much better understanding of Catalonia today, and historically. Gerard is very knowledgeable and personable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our day---Thanks Gerard!!!!!

          Wonderful day
We spent a Sunday with Gerard driving up the Costa Brava. We walked through three small coastal villages and then had a lovely lunch at a restaurant at the top of the hills. The weather was perfect in the morning which added to the pleasure. Later we drove into the countryside stopping at two walled towns. Gerard was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable about the history of the area. He also told us much about the current economy of Spain and his experience setting up a business. Would highly recommend Gerard!

Montserrat and Montjuic Cemetery, Historical and interesting...
Gerad is one of the best Tourist Guide we had ever had. He is so knowledgeable and entertaining, who gives a lot of information without bore you out. He had worked and travelled world wide, fluent in at least 5 languages therefore it's really no problem understand him! He is always punctual but never rushes you from one point to another, gives you a lot of freedom to linger a little bit more where you like. He even helped us to move hotel after the tour, we really appreciate his kind initiatives. And the tours his company provide is really amazing. SO different from other conventional ones. We went to Montserrat Monastery , which may seem pretty standard itinerary, where we had specially waited for the Boy Choirs to perform. But the most interesting part was the visit to the Montjuic Cemetery afterwards! Instead of normal itinerary (most people would go to the Montuic view point), we visited the Cemetery instead; it was surprisingly enriching. There are so much history and stories in it, and also exceptional aesthetic architectures. (Except there is no toilet around cemetery, should be warned ahead!) After the visit you get a glimpse of Barcelona's society differences, aristocracy, professionals, gypsy, foreigners, poors... Highly interesting.

History, architecture, scenic tours with private guide
We booked with BCN Hidden Tours for 2 private day tours about a month in advance of our April trip. From the start, email inquiries were promptly responded by Gerard. He was extremely accommodating in tailoring of the itineraries. We needed to be in Girona the day before the first tour (of the Costa Brava area) and Gerard traveled to stay in Girona the night before the tour to pick us up in Girona instead of Barcelona in the morning of the tour. He was prompt in picking us up both tour days, and was actually early and waiting for us in the hotel lobby. His car was new, clean and comfortable. His enthusiam and knowledge of Catalonia/Spainish history and of the Costa Brava area added to the enjoyment of the day. He showed us the contrasting development of the villages (Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc), the historical significance of the coastal trails, visiting the village of Bejur and Pal with historical ruins and tower, tremendous scenaries, interesting wine tasting. After the tour, Gerard then dropped us off at the Barcelona hotel. The next day, he picked us up and took us directly to Montserrat. We were there before the hordes of crowd arrived. After spending the morning in Montserrat he took us to the "hidden" gem of Montjuic Cemetery. The cemetery was huge and Gerard's guidance was invaluable. In a corner of the cemetery is the Fossar de la Pedrera, the mass grave of 4000 victim's of Spain's "White Terror". Again his knowledge of Catalonia history and the area enliven the experience. If you are interested of the Paris Pere Lachaise and Milan's Cimitero Monumentale, the Montjuic Cemetery is a must. Then Gerard led us through a walk of the Gracia district and pointed out significant events that influence the architectures and residences. We saw Gaudi's first "building" in process of renovation. His love of the Gracia district make us hopeful that with the eventual "opening" of this Gaudi house will not significantly change the character of the Gracia area. During the Gracia tour, he also led us to an underground bomb shelter buried in the basement of a Parking Garage! BCN Hidden Tours rate was extremely favorable as compared to other "private" tours. Gerard's driving through the winding twisting roads of the coast and mountain was assured. I highly recommend BCN Hidden Tours for private Barcelona/Costa Brava area touring that will expose you to beautiful scenaries along with a better understanding of the Catalonia area and history.

          Friendly Hiking
If you like hiking in your home country, you probably know how difficult it is to go hiking in a foreign country... Well that's exactly where BCN Hidden Tours fits in perfectly. I was on a short vacation in Barcelona to see a FCB soccer match with my son and I had one day to go sightseeing. I knew that I wanted to go hiking. We found BCN Hidden Tours on Tripadvisor and were almost immediately contacted by Gerard, the CEO, and one of the company owners. We booked a private trip to the area of Garrotxa. Gerard picked us up early in the morning and we headed north to the la Garrotxa National Park. Later we also visited the town of Castellfollit de la Roca and the town of Besalú. The hiking was fit great. We enjoyed the scenic views, the nature and the friendly guidance of Gerard. It was interesting and enlightening. The atmosphere was friendly as though we were on a hike with friends. I would do it again any day... Highly recommended!

          Truly amazing experience!
After spending a few days in Barcelona we decided to take BCN Hidden tours to Costa Brava and Peratallada. Our guide picked us up from hotel we stayed in and took us to Costa Brava first. Once there, we walked all the way throughout the cost and were shown most breathtaking views, and everything looked as you see on postcards from paradise. Our next stop was Peratallada - an amazing town well known for its remarkable architecture. If you like history and architecture, this one is perfect for you. Our guide told us a lot about this town making you feel you want to come more and more to explore it again and again. Simply one of the best tours I have ever been on! Highly recommended and will definitely book another private guided tour I am next time in Barcelona! With them, private means private :) Thank you ever so much!
