About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- David D0 contributionsVast salt beds and other features - worth a visitWednesday 17th July and we visited Salinas de Janubio, which are about a twenty-five minute drive, 14 kilometres from Playa Blanca. We parked up in the car park and started walking about. We made our way to the raised platform which acted as a viewing point across the numerous salt beds. Each bed was used in the various processes in the production of the salt. Apart from the vast size of La Salinas and the panoramic view the natural bright colours of the water in beds is rather special Other interesting features here are the Estatua de Los Salineros y Salineras de Janubio and the Crab Sculpture (Brine Shrimp). Nearby there is a small plaque bearing a quotation from the famous artist CĂ©sar Manrique which reads "Salt mines have always hugely impressed me. The salt mines in Lanzarote are outstanding due to their linear beauty and blinding colours". There was a small visitor centre, cafe and gift shop which sold varieties of salt produced here. Along the LZ 701there is a viewing point which overlooks the expansive salt flats. It was possible to go on organised walking tours around, however we just turned up and had a bit of a walk about.Written August 14, 2024
- bobd3230 contributionsA great visit to a place of much interest.A very interesting tour made so much so by our guide Martin. There was a great deal to do and to learn. After there was a taste test and a visit to the packaging area. Who would have thought there was so much to getting salt to the table.Written April 25, 2024
- kathrynanna0 contributionsGreat way to learn more about LanzaroteSuch an interesting and enjoyable tour. We learned a lot about the island, salt manufacture, wildlife and the impact of climate change. This tour gave me real insight into the hardship of life here and connection between the people and the land. Our guide was lovely - warm, friendly and a sharp sense of humour. We booked online in advance and I'm glad we did - it was quite busy with big bus tours on the day, but our little group was well away from the masses and had what felt like a really personal experience. I highly recommend this tour.Written November 13, 2023
- Jordi-cr70 contributionsBeautiful place , beware of ShopThe place it’s stunning , it’s a must if you are in Lanzarote . My 5th time here, and I won’t ever get tired visiting it . Only thing I will recommend you to beware of the lady shopkeeper . Really nasty attitude. She tried to overcharge us, and when asked her , she responded with a very bad attitude as she was caught . No sorry, no accepting “her mistake” . Other than that , beautiful place to visit .Written November 7, 2023
- hebert t0 contributionsIt'a trap. Un piège à touristesIt's a trap. No indication about tickets or visit with a guide. They let you free in the Park with consciensous, and after they caught you to tell you you need to pay à visit with guide and there are many cameras. In fact there is nothing. And nothing to see in fact. The road with thé mirador is more better. Dont do this "activity". Keep your moneyWritten December 14, 2022
- Merrowmum0 contributionsSalt pansCame here for a quick visit on a small group tour of the area, so didn’t do the guided tour. No piles of salt to see, but salt pans in various stages of the production process plus a nice commemorative statue. There is a small shop - get 500g of salt for €1!Written November 1, 2022
- KrisD_pl0 contributionsMirador de Salinas de JanubioWe didn't have time (and the mood) for the tour of the salinas, but we stopped along the way on the viewpoint and then drove down to check the shop. At the time of our visit there were no pyramids of white salt, so unfortunately the view was not very eye-catching.Written April 18, 2022
- David D0 contributionsAn interesting place to visitThursday 13th January and we visited the Salt Beds, Las Salinas de Jaubio, which are situated between Las Breñas and El Golfo. Due to the size of the vast Salt Beds, they can be seen from some distance. It was very interesting to see how the Salt Beds were fed with the constant flowing water and the process of making salt. We could see salt beds filled with salt crystals. There were another couple of features which added to the level of interest here. It is home to the statue of Los Salineros and Salineras de Janubio and the Crab Sculpture. There is a small shop here, Bodega Jaubio, where it is possible to purchase products produce at the Salt Beds.Written January 18, 2022
- avp20170 contributionsGreat place to park and buy great flavourful saltThis a great place to see how real sea salt is made and taste th the product I had slight problem with my credit card which the kind lady was trying to help me with.I was a bit rude so Sorry lady it was not your fault The shop has many affordable options for many great varieties of salt with many easy to travel withWritten January 11, 2022

- r0landbrunner0 contributionshistory of Lanzaroteeven if most of the Salinas are out of work, as salt does not have the importance to dry fish it had once upon a time, it is still and interesting and pictoresque place to visit. nice view on the whole area from above, at the road.Written December 19, 2020
- charlotte0560 contributionsNiceVery picturesque views and I believe you can get a guided tour, great views from the restaurant above. It gives you an idea of the work involved in the manufacture of someth8ng so basic as saltWritten March 30, 2020
- Steve-and-Andie0 contributionsMissed the tourWe arrived around midday to find the only English tour was mid morning. Without the tour, which we cannot comment on, there is not a lot to see or do here. Plenty of parking space and a small shop. Get decent views of the site from the road above.Written March 10, 2020
- PlBl10 contributionsExcellent tourExtremely interesting tour of the salt flats at Janubio. Our guide Anna was very knowledgeable and made the tour very enjoyable. At the end of the tour is the opportunity to taste the different salts and salt combinations. There is also a small shop to buy salt and other interesting itemsWritten February 26, 2020
- Willeke_Huigens0 contributionsInteresting visit!!We did the onsite tour with the salt-tasting. It was very interesting, we have seen a lot of saltpans abroad, but never really knew the details of 'making' salt. You get to learn everything about it during the tour. Our guide was very dedicated to the place and spoke with lots of passion about the history and the salt winning. A must see when on Lanzarote. Not just from above (the view is wonderful), but please do the tour, learn about the process and help this site survive.Written February 23, 2020

The tours run each day and we chose the 16:00 one. Our group consisted of me and my wife and 5 other people who were French. The tour guide described the history of the salt production at that site and also throughout Lanzarote. We were able to walk around the pens and canals and inside a renovated (but non-functional) windmill pump. This is one of seven originals, and there are two that have been renovated.
The tasting session was inside, in the shade and consisted of wine or fresh water, tomatoes and various flavoured salts.
Interesting tour, friendly tour guide (Jus) and the fellow guests were chatty as we practiced our French and they practiced their English spoken language.
Very enjoyable few hours out with a gift at the end. We can recommend.

We spent a very pleasant afternoon here, thanks to our guide Xus who spoke about the salina and its history with great enthusiasm and pride.
The salina is beautiful from a distance, but it is only when you stand in the middle of it that you truly see its splendor. We therefore highly recommend everyone to book the guided tour.

Salinas de Janubio is a salt lake, from where it is extracted salt to business purposes. It is located near the coast of Lanzarote Island, near the small town called Yaiza. I came here to do a guided visit and at the beginning it was not os good, because they did not scheduled my guided visit. So, I went to breakfast and return one hour late. Then, the visit was prepared to begin and it was really a very interesting and experience: we learn a lot about the process of extract and purification of different types of salt and we could see all salt lake, from where there were lovely views of the surroundings. Wonderful place! At the end of the visit, we did a little tasting experience of salt (with some flavours) and wine. Fantastic! Really, it was a great idea to wait one hour!

We came for a guided tour reserved in advance (which specifically stated that the tour could be done in English). Arrives our tour guide, who begins speaking before the whole group has finished walking up in Spanish. After being asked to do it in English, she refuses, tells us that the Spanish speaker should just translate for the rest of the group and says she has better things to do than do the tour. Cherry on the cake was her giving us grief us for being 2 minutes late (for a 1h30 visit) when we were just waiting for her at the Salinas’ reception/bar for over 10 minutes.
I have never been so unimpressed by a lack of professionalism and care and we will definitely not be going back or recommending. A real shame.

Excellent fascinating and very informative tour by multilingual guide who spoke excellent English ( she had lived Barcelona, London, Shanghai etc.) followed by tasting of different salts and wine after. This place has fascinated us since our first visit 30 years ago and great to see they are developing it a little with small shop and guides. We had not pre-booked but joined three others for near private 1.5 hour tour for 12 euros. Highly recommended. Give big tip - by contrast guides at Cuevas Los Verdot barely speak English….

We visited on a Saturday afternoon in early June and surprisingly were the only ones on the tour so we got a very personal and relaxed tour. Most other visitors just went to the shop / bar and admired the views instead. Our guide was very friendly and provided an overview of the history of the site and production of salt and we were able to taste different varieties of their salt with cheese and tomatoes at the end, which was delicious. You are naturally exposed to the sun and the paths are a bit uneven but it is accessible to most and is certainly worthwhile if you want to gain a unique experience and insight. For those not interested in the tour, it is worth visiting just for the views and there is a lovely black sand beach (with a large free car park) a couple of minutes drive further down the road which is worth a visit too.

Our guide loved her job. She explained everything in a very clear and lively way.
We learned a lot from her.
She had a very soothing presence and her descriptions were very vivid.
I unfortunately I do not recall the lady’s
name, she had long blond hair.
She explained everything in very good english.
Very pleased we took the tour. A lovely experience !

All I can say is Martin is the absoluto best tour guide. He is extremely passionate about everything from the salt itself and every process to the protection of the wildlife. He explained everything so well and was very personal since our group was just my husband and I due to needing the tour in English. He was very passionate about relaying the historial truth of the farm to us and making sure we were comfortable. We bought the flavored salt because of his explanations and how delicious it was. If we were to come back it would be to visit Martin just so he could explain to us any progress of the farm.
We were able to get a taxi to and from the location. We came during a farmers market day so the tacos were busy it was a little wait but not to bad at all as we had a shaded sitting area to wait.

A thoroughly fascinating morning, highly recommend! It was amazing to find out the history of the salt production and our guide, Martin, was exceptional and so knowledgeable. He made it one of our best Lanzarotte experiences, and we’ve been here 7 years already :)
