About
Walking alone in Lanzarote’s Los Volcanes Natural Park may mean you only scratch the surface of its main sights and volcanic terrain. Get near three volcanoes—La Rilla, Montana Colorada, and Volcan del Cuervo—and learn about their geology and wildlife from a guide on this small-group walking tour. Refreshments, 4-wheel-drive transport, and hotel transfers mean everything’s taken care of, so you can just focus on the scenery.

Highlights
- Walk with a guide to learn about the volcanic terrain without getting lost
- Climb La Rilla, circle Montana Colorada, and enter Volcan del Cuervo
- Small-group tour limited to eight, plus hotel transfers included
What to expect
View the lunar-like terrain and learn how volcanic eruptions in the 1700s and 1800s gave Lanzarote 32 new volcanoes—many situated in the park.
Travel to your first crater, La Rilla, and ascend by foot. Absorb the views from the rim and hear about the crater’s formation and wildlife as you refuel with refreshments.
Continue by 4-wheel drive to the red-hued Montana Colorada cone. Hike around the base and inspect various geological features, including the world’s biggest “volcanic bomb,” a gigantic rock blown from the volcano.
Finally, drive to Volcan del Cuervo and enter its crater. Admire the lava formations and watch for rare Barbary falcons here before your tour concludes at your hotel.

- 1Timanfaya National ParkStop: 4 hoursThis is probably the ultimate volcano experience, offering the thrill of walking up, around and into three spectacular volcanoes and to be as close to the protected National Park of Timanfaya on foot as possible. The first stage of the excursion is to the edge of the crater La Rilla, one of Lanzarote’s most impressive examples of volcanic activity. The group will climb steadily to the edge of the crater where during a rest for refreshments, the guide will explain the construction of this beautiful volcano and the life that inhabits it. The second part of the excursion is around the base of Montaña Colorada, one of the last volcanoes to erupt during the activity of 1730 – 1736. The stunning cinder cone shines a beautiful red color which is particularly intense for a volcano of this type. This easy walk takes the group around the base of the volcano making stops en route where the guide will explain points of natural or geological interest. The walk also offers the group the opportunity to see the world’s largest volcanic bomb, measuring some 4m x 5m– a great photo opportunity. The final destination is to Volcán del Cuervo (volcano of the raven). Accessed via a short walk from the drop off point, this visit allows the group right into the heart of a huge crater. Dramatic lava formations can be seen and the crater is also home to rare nesting birds, Berbery Falcons, which can be seen on some occasions. The total walk covers around 6km and is relatively easy. However walking shoes or trainers are recommended as in some places the terrain is uneven.Read more

Highly recommend this tour, the guides are superb, very polite and knowledgeable. The tour is set at relaxed pace and you do not get rushed at all. The walking is very easy but not wouldn’t recommend it to be done in flip flops/ sandals, definitely closed face shoes/trainers or possibly boots.
The guide also recommended the wine tour that runs on a Friday. That was also excellent and followed on really well after the volcano tour.
Both brilliant days

Dear client,
You have no idea how pleasant was to receive your review. It is like a remainder of the good old times, when everything was normal. I hope that tourism in Lanzarote will recover in the future, but I am sure it never will be the same. The island is becoming deserted as last tourists are abandonining a destination...that only lives of tourism.
Please, take care and thank you for the review!

We booked this tour before we left the UK and were not disappointed! Silvia picked us up from our apartments at the specified time and we met up with Adolpho who led the tour. This is a very informative, interesting tour which gave us so much information that we were able to use on later solo walks. Lunch was provided, lovely bread with a choice of fillings, fruit and bottled water. We had taken our walking boots on holiday and were very grateful for them as the trails are mostly volcanic ash (gravel). It is also advisable to take warm windproof jackets as it was quite a cold wind when we were there. I would highly recommend this tour if you like walking and are interested in learning more about volcanos!

Fabulous trip, was picked up right on time by our very pleasant and friendly guide Silvia from our hotel. She was very informative and knew all about the island, the formation of the volcanoes and local history. It was well worth the price and we were sorry that we had no cash on us to tip her at the end of a very pleasant day. Highly recommended.

This was a brilliant tour, our guide was very knowledgeable about all aspects not just the geology, we learnt about the history of the island, flora, fauna and lots more besides. Lovely baguette, fruit and water for our lunch and the chance to walk up a volcano and into another...which personally thought was the crashed Death Star. 😂 would thoroughly recommend, I haven't done the National Park tour but I enjoyed the fact you can actually be out there rather than in a bus. It was a small tour, 4 on our mini bus meeting 5 on another along with our two guides. Great photo ops of a landscape like no other.

Very interesting tour with Adolpho who is clearly passionate about his subject. Stunning scenery at all three volcanoes. Moderate walking involved but definitely worth it when you get to each place. Tasty picnic bottled water and hotel pick up included this tour was excellent value for money as well. Highly recommended.

Our guide, Silvia, picked us up from our holiday villa. We picked up two other families and were off. Before lunch we walked an easy 40-minute each way walk to the rim of a volcano - La Rilla. Lunch was nice baguettes in a small town square and afterwards a second short walk to see a volcanic bomb at Montane Colorado and a third 20 minutes each way walk to actually walk into the crater of Volcan de Cuerovo. Throughout, our guide gave us great short talks about different aspects of volcanoes and volcanic activity. She had the knack of explaining quite complex geological issues in everyday terms (e.g. not all magma is equal - think of thick honey that runs stiffly and runny honey that runs quickly). Silvia also has great knowledge of local plants and wildlife. Really great guiding, well organised and excellent value for money.

Went with my husband and two other family members. The lovely guide was Adolfo who was both informative, entertaining and very pleasant. The walking is manageable and not rushed. We liked the size of the group (only 7 when we went) but I think the maximum is just 8 anyway. Learned lots of interesting facts about volcanoes and we would recommend you give this tour a go. We got picked up at our hotel and dropped off again and had a nice deli type lunch. Absolutely loved it all.

Very well organised and presented tour. Pick-up and drop-off at your hotel is very comfortable! Volcanoes are open to the public but the insight, structure and history offered by Alfonso and his crew is invaluable! They will give you a new way of looking and understanding volcanoes, structure and how the islands were formed. Makes for a very instructive and enjoyable day, quick lunch is also included.

We went as a group of mid 20’s guys so not something you’d expect for the stereotype, but we absolutely loved this tour. Both tour guides were extremely knowledgeable of the island both in a geological and historical point of view. The weather was shining and the walks themselves we found relatively easy but I could see that some may find it harder. Some very breathtaking views during the walks. I could say this tour was a real highlight of our holiday and we walked away with some very interesting chunks of knowledge. 100% recommend.

Could be the best day out on Lanzarote. The guide turned up bang on time and was a very pleasant person. A very informative trip with just enough walking. A nice picnic stop at lunch time. 10 out of 10 the day couldn't be faulted.

Hi
Each volcano is visited by a short walk
They are not too difficult
Really worth it and the guides are great
Where is a meeting point for guest from Playa Blanca? We'd like to do the tour but live at Rubicón Palace in Playa Blanca.

I personally would not recommend this tour for a 3 year old.The child would need to be carried for all of the walks because of the speed and gradients.I also feel that the length of the tour would be very tiring for a young child
Taking time to feedback…

Would this trip be suitable for a family of 4 which includes 2 children (5 and 8 years)?

I would say it would be a bit too much for them. There is a lot of walking on very small ‘shingle’ which gets in your shoes, and can be very slippery to walk on.
There is no shade at all, and no access to any toilets until lunch time. Lunch is a baguette sandwich.
The last walk when the weather has heated up in the afternoon is quite tiring, and adults were getting tired and hot.
It’s fine for fairly fit adults and older children, well covered, hats etc, and bring a water bottle.

We would like to have a trip to the vulcanos. How match it costs for four person and how long it takes.
