After meeting your guide at one of the most picturesque squares in town, we'll talk about how Las Canteras has miraculously evolved from a bit of a dodgy place into one of the most beloved beaches in all of Spain.
Your tour will take a turn inland as your guide introduces you to the local side of this touristy neighbourhood. We’ll spend some time exploring the modern side of town, which has been heavily influenced by street artists and surfers.
We hope you’re hungry because our first stop will be at one of the best breakfast joints in the city to try a typical Canario breakfast. Sample the famous Gofio, which helped Canarios survive some of the hardest times in our history and enjoy a sweet, traditional snack adored by local children. If you’re in the mood for more sweet stuff, why not order a coffee leche y leche, which can be found only in Gran Canaria?
Your guide will then lead you to the northern part of Las Canteras. Strolling along the promenade, you’ll pass by statues of famous Canarios, visit the Plaza de Ferray and take a detour to the Santa Catalina Park, where many colourful local events and festivals take place.
Time for a rest! Relax with a fresh juice and a bocadillo at the Mercado del Puerto, where the locals like to do their grocery shopping in the mornings and enjoy a drink and a gossip in the evenings.
After this relaxing stop, we’ll make our way back to the beach promenade and discover La Puntilla, which boasts gorgeous views of La Isleta Nature Reserve. This is also a great place to discuss ecotourism on the island and find out how you can ensure that you are respectful of the wildlife and local communities during your stay on Gran Canaria.
And what better way to finish your introductory tour than with a photo opportunity set against the backdrop of beautiful Las Canteras? Definitely a contender for smug Instagram post of the week!
Before you go, don’t forget to ask your friendly guide for more tips on how to get the most out of your stay in Gran Canaria.
