After several mishaps that left us without a rental car we were devastated that we were not going to see most of the things on our itinerary. Baskme to the rescue! I booked a severely last minute tour to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and it did not disappoint. Our local guide Jaime was what I’d call a kindred spirit- nature loving, warm and wonderful, and engrossingly knowledgeable - He subtly assessed what we were into (which was more history and culture as opposed to being GOT fans) so he showed us some extra things that blew our minds. Was absolutely the best day of our trip and I’m glad we saved it for last. Special memories not soon forgotten indeed. Eskerrik asko Jaime!

Returning to San Sebastián, we were excited to see that Andoni was still offering tours of his home Basque Country. We had pinchos and tour of the area almost ten years ago with him and had not forgotten what a great time we had and what a wonderful host Andoni was. Andoni loves his home of San Sebastián and seems to know everyone there and in Basque Country. Tours are always private and he is a host rather than a guide. Pinchos and a Rioja tour were fresh and wonderful.

Our guide and friend Andoni was amazing and gave us a tour of a lifetime, we explored San Sebastian, had delicious food, learned more about Bask country and Spain. Me and my family truly appreciate Baskme and Andoni for everything! I would highly recommend this tour for anyone looking at having a good time in San Sebastian and looking for good company. Andoni was great, so personable and had such enthusiasm for the places we went. We had a delicious lunch on top of a mountain for an incredible steak. No way I could have found it on my own. Also, we went to a beach where Game of Thrones was filmed. Again, I wouldn’t have known. This is your man. He knows the place inside and out.

Wonderful private tour customized by Andoni beginning in Biarritz, then to Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Hondarribia where he dropped us off in the middle of festival where we saw the Giants and Big Heads in a parade and mingled with all the people. He gave us a much deeper understanding of the Basque culture and left us with suggestions on a scenic drive out of San Sebastian into the Basque country and back to the coast. Also great restaurant recommendations for us. And another plus is when you shop while on tour, he will carry your bags for you. Wish we had more time because we would have gone on one of his wine tours.

When I was looking for a private guide for the Basque Country, Andoni made the best impression among those I contacted by his very prompt replies. One guide took days to respond, while another never responded at all. Andoni, on the other hand, returned my emails very quickly and with very helpful information. I had an ambitious list of places I wanted to see with very little time, and he designed itineraries that covered my wish list and allowed for reasonable amounts of time at each destination. The only thing that hurried us up in one instance was a sudden downpour while we were at San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (and even then, he still took time to shoot our photo). I had booked three day trips for a group of eight people. One trip had to be cancelled due to a drastic flight change. The two trips we did have were both wonderful and enriching: One covered Pamplona, St Jean Pied-de-Port, and Bayonne; the other covered the Basque Coast between San Sebastian and Bilbao. During both days, Andoni walked us around while giving us historical bits about the areas we visited, gamely took group photos, took us to good restaurants for pintxos, and recommended other restaurants where we went outside of the tours. He even did us the great favour of booking our taxis for a cider house meal that we had reserved separately. Andoni is very warm and engaging, with interesting stories about his own life, making our time with him very enjoyable. Easy to reach, accommodating, personable, knowledgeable, goes the extra mile… what’s not to like? Look him up if you’re visiting San Sebastian. I give him five sparkling stars!
