- Krummelcat0 contributionsTerrific tapas tour of SevilleRoger was an excellent guide around some of the top tapas locations in central Seville. He's very well informed about everything Spanish including the wine and food and is warm and engaging. The evening was one of the best of our trip.Written April 22, 2024
- quesaxa0 contributionsExperience of a lifetime at an Iberian pig farmRoger Davies is first class. All I wanted for my 50th birthday was to visit an Iberian pig farm and then eat the best ham in the world. This is an all day excursion. We spent a few hours walking around a beautiful farm and then were treated to a delicious tasting of their ham and chorizo with wine. We then visited a ham producer, had a tour of their facilities and then ended with another amazing ham tasting with wine. We then finished our day with a leisurely lunch in Aracena. It was a perfect day.Written April 12, 2024
- P1961FJsarah0 contributionsBrilliant. Just book it!Brilliant. Again. Roger knows all the places to go, is a fount of knowledge about food and wine AND about Seville. We did an evening taps tour, which cost E90 each, and we easily ate and drank more than half of that value. Four tapas bars, 8 or 9 dishes between us, four glasses of wine or sangria... When I said I liked chocos he ordered accordingly. We ate dishes we'd never have picked ourselves, went to places we'd never have found (including one bar at the back of a shop.. totally hidden unless you knew), and had a wonderful evening. This was our second trip with Roger.. first was a decade ago. And it was just as fabulous.Written March 9, 2024
- NinaF4920 contributionsSherry is not an old person’s tippleWe had a most enjoyable day with Roger, who took us to two interesting bodegas in Jerez. Roger is very personable and is able to impart his wide knowledge of the process of Sherry making in a clear and concise way. It was a pleasure to spend the day with him, to taste some wonderful sherries, to learn so much and to enjoy a delicious lunch. I would highly recommend his tour to anyone who is interested in tasting and learning about Sherry.Written June 30, 2023
- DougMuzPdx0 contributionsA Day in JerezRoger picked us up near our Airbnb in Seville and drove us to Jerez to visit two sherry bodegas. The first stop was at one of the large well known sherry houses. Roger used the barrels in the warehouses to detail the sherry making process (solera). And, a unique well lit barrel with glass ends enabled a perfect view of the 'Flor' mold layer. Our second stop was at a smaller bodega where could not only taste from bottles, but also from the barrels. This provided a unique opportunity to directly experience the magic maturation of sherry. We were also afforded time with the owner of the bodega, and the discussions provided great insight into the business of sherry. We concluded the tour with a superb lunch in the Jerez old town. Roger is a superb tour guide with vast knowledge of sherry and Spanish history.Written June 26, 2023
- OnlyJoe0 contributionsInformative and Enthusiastic GuideWe really enjoyed this tour with Roger. He is very personable and knowledgeable about the wines (sherry) of the region. We learned so much and tasted great wines. It was interesting to walk around the cellars and taste the different varieties of wine in each room. We purchased a delicious bottle of vermouth at the second winery and can't wait to open the bottle. We also had a delicious meal in a small restaurant in Jerez that we still talk about (they have a cold potato salad that we never found on the menu elsewhere), which was followed by a short walking tour of Jerez. Because we decided that we also wanted to visit Cadiz, we asked Roger to take us to the train station and he happily obliged. I would highly recommend Roger and this tour, especially if you are interested in learning about sherry and vermouth.Written May 25, 2023
- 106stevem0 contributionsDay trip to Sherry countryDay trip to Jerez de la Frontera or simply Jerez, city and municipality in the province of Cádiz in the community of Andalusia, in southwestern Spain, located midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cádiz Mountains. Known for its picturesue landscape and more famously the centre of the universe for Sherry! Visited two different wineries with our new friend Roger Davies from A Question of Taste. First stop was Lustau Jerez making a fantastic array of sherries for every taste. While not the largest, very well respected and a wide range of sherries. Fascinating history and over 2000 casks aging in the ”cathedral”. Second stop, a small very high quality producer of sherry and brandies. Fernando de Castella. Knock out brandy and several aged sherries. Roger then took us for a delightful outdoor patio lunch in Central old town Jerez. Wandering around the ancient city, its own Alcazar and Cathedral. If you have a chance to travel in the region, we highly recommend calling Roger to be your guide.Written March 14, 2023
- DavidWit0 contributionsA Wine Tour of GaliciaFollowing an excellent sherry tasting trip to Jerez in 2018 with Roger from A Question of Taste, we decided to do a wine tasting trip to Galicia with him. We have just completed the twice postponed trip (due to Covid) and it exceeded our expectations. We chose Galicia because it was an area of Spain we didn't know and also knew very little about the wines of the region. Roger made all the arrangements for hotels, wine tours, meals and additional attractions. He drove us throughout the region, stopping to see some amazing sights and we stayed in three different towns. Roger met me and three companions late one evening at Santiago de Compostela railway station, the less said about the Spainish railways the better! He took us to our hotel and the next day we started our four day tour. We visited wineries in Rias Baixis, Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras and El Bierzo. We visited two or three wineries each day punctuated by lunch in a local restaurant and a periodic visit to a historic site to break up the wine tours. The hotels were very comfortable, including one Parador, and each night we had a delicious evening meal of local cuisine in a different restaurant. At the end of our trip, Roger dropped us at the airport. The highlights were the Ribeira Sacra region where we had a boat trip on the river and saw up close the vines growing on very steep hillsides, and the fact that at most of the wineries we were shown round by and talked to the owner and wine maker, so we were able to discuss the wines and the challenges they face in making the wines. Roger was very knowledgeable about the area and the wines and had an excellent relationship with the producers. The whole trip was very well organised and was one of the best wine tours we have been on. We are now planning a trip to Rioja with Roger.Written October 17, 2022
- Hugh H0 contributionsComplete Excellent Jamon Tour ExperienceRoger is a great tour guide, host. He has a great relationship with to site hosts which opened up the people interaction; the pig farm is very real, authentic, providing insight; Roger’s knowledge gave us a complete understanding when he toured us through the cure rooms; his lunch restaurant experience selection is perfect - great local Spanish cuisine and people. Chatting with Roger in the drive about Spain, Jamin, and various subjects is great fun; we learned a lot!.Written October 14, 2022
- TimmyP19530 contributionsGreat introduction to sherry and tapasThis was our first evening in Seville and friends had booked a tour with Roger, AQOT. It really was an excellent experience, the four tapas bars we visited were varied and offered a range of dishes from fish to iberico ham and cheeses. The accompanying drinks, sherry and wine came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Roger is a very personable and professional guide, you cannot help but finish your experience as friends.Written October 12, 2022
- olivep610 contributionsUnquestionably great taste, thanks Roger!Roger is incredibly knowledgeable about everything to do with wine and food in the Seville area. He's been doing this for over 20 years and still takes evident joy and interest in what he does. We spent an evening with him discovering the tapas bars of the city - all of them charming with typical and terrific tasting tapas. He doesn't just do tapas - his 'thing' is wine and he will be your own personal google about the bodegas and wineries of Spain. I highly recommend him.Written October 11, 2022
- anna47280 contributionsFantastic tour from a sherry wine guruRoger was a fantastic guide. Not only is his knowledge of sherry so vast, he also knows the staff and owners of the places that we visited. This means that he's able to get insider knowledge of everything that's happening. When we visited Lustau, they had a setup that was new and he was able to find out that it was for the single-vineyard process that the winery is starting to experiment on. We tasted different sherry wines, vermut, and a sherry vinegar in Lustau. Really opened our eyes on sherry wines! Palo cortado was our favourite. Fernando de Castilla was the other place that we toured and in there we tasted a brandy as well as different sherry wines, some of which we even got to try straight from the barrel! The lunch that followed was also fantastic. Roger ordered various local specialities and some of our favourites were the garlic clams and fried baby squids. This tour was definitely one of the best ones we've had in our trip and Roger played a key role in it. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking into knowing (and tasting) more about sherry wines!Written September 26, 2022
- MattWyatt010 contributionsThere’s no Question, Roger has good taste!!Friday had been a great day in Seville, fantastic Jamon Iberico, boquerones, bacalao in paprika, croquetas de camarones, cold cruzcampo….we were now Tapas aficionados. Tapas with a cold beer were great, but what would they be like coupled with a cold glass of Fino…..tomorrow we would find out on Roger’s Sherry Tour(Lustau winery and Lunch) My brother and I had both seen Roger appear on a Rick Stein Seville episode and not only did he come across as an interesting guy, but was obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about good product. I don’t think we could visit Seville without meeting this guy - the tour was booked and we would be meeting Roger on Saturday morning. The tour started the moment Roger picked us up at our hotel, he was just as enthusiastic as us and conversation flowed until we reached Lustau winery in Jarez. We entered the incredible cathedral like building that housed lines of Sherry Casks in infantry like formation, however this is where Roger gets to showcase the fantastic range of Lustau wines and his extensive knowledge of wines….all the way from the grape to the glass. Not only did we try the Sherries, but also the Vermouths (Red, Rose and White) and finally a Sherry Vinegar. Roger has a knack of animating the whole tasting experience and we couldn’t help but nod in agreement as he imparted his numerous years of experience. Next, we was off to La Cruz Blanca - a smashing local restaurant in courtyard type setting. It was certainly a popular place and when the small plates of food started arriving, it was obvious to see why. Roger had ordered well, but when we had our first glass of chilled Fino with a plate of juicy clams the penny dropped!! Every dish seamed to make the Fino taste better, but then the Fino enhanced the food. Roger had certainly opened our eyes and it was ‘Dos Fino’ for the rest of our stay in Seville. In between the Winery and Restaurant we also walked round a local working fish market - a great place to wet the appetite. Roger couldn’t have been a better host, entertaining, knowledgeable and a throughly likeable guy. If we could have stayed longer in Seville I would have certainly booked Roger for a Jamon/Olive Oil tour. There’s no Question, Roger has good taste!!Written May 14, 2022
- I545YUkaym0 contributionsMuch more than piggy bits!Roger collected us from our Seville hotel and the conversation didn’t stop until he dropped us back. With knowledge of Spain collected over 35 years Roger not only gave us a memorable Iberian Ham Tour but also lots of information that made the rest of our Andalusian tour extra special, including sherry tasting, the white villages around Ronda and helping us secure a table in a 2star Michelin restaurant. Don’t have breakfast! you will need room for the delicious Spanish tortilla and home reared ham served at the farm, after walking the beautiful countryside side to see the evergreen and cork oqk trees. Most of the breeding pigs were in the farm as we just missed the acorn season so we got to meet them close up. The factory tour was really interesting and seeing the 1000’s of hams breathtaking before a guided tasting of the different cuts of ham with sherry. At the restaurant we were served a variety of hams and sausages, that Roger’s explained followed by wild asparagus we later saw growing just off the roadside , then different cuts of pork a particularly favourite was the tender cheeks all washed down with some Spanish wine selected by Roger. We have been on many tours but this one was particularly memorable as it felt so personal due to the close relationship Roger has developed with the locals we felt welcome at each place and the lovely lady of mature years who made us the tortilla will have a special memory in my heart. Roger we can’t wait to return to Spain and ask you to share more of your knowledge with us, thank you so much for making the day a true highlight of our holiday.Written March 8, 2022
- JenU2580 contributionsPerfect foodie day out from SevilleWhat a fantastic day out! Roger is do knowledgeable and personable. The scenery was beautiful and we loved visiting the working farm to see the pigs. The lady who hosted us was so welcoming. The ham drying process was fascinating too. The lunch was out of this world, followed by a nice walk to the castle. Genuinely a perfect day for us. Thank you 🙏🏻Written February 16, 2022

My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Roger and A Question of Taste. He was clearly knowledgeable about Spanish wine, food, and culture. He helped explain the differences in Spanish wine versus others and brought pictures of wineries in Spain so that we could see exactly what he was referring to. The food pairing and dinner was excellent. The food items that he chose to pair with our wine were delicious and were the perfect foods to consume with the wine that we tasted. We would have never picked out such perfect pairings on our own, so we are grateful to have booked this tasting with Roger. If you are in Seville and looking for a wine tasting with excellent food then look no further than Roger and A Question of Taste.
