    Excellent lunch
We visited the museum mainly for the reason of having lunch in the restaurant which had been recommended to us. We enjoyed the Menú del Día which was excellent value at €12.90, very tasty and served in pleasant surroundings. A good place to head for if you're in the middle of Málaga and wanting lunch. We will definitely be back.

    Spanish paintings to love
This is a collection of Spanish paintings (primarily) tyhat we very much enjoyed. They also had a temporary exhibit that we didn't particularly love, but it was OK. I'd go for the Spanish paintings, and allow about 2 hours. It is not a large collection, but that lets you take your time.

    Hidden Gem!
The Carmen Thyssen Museum is a gem! We knew very little about Spanish art and were blown away by the 19th century landscape, genre and portrait paintings we saw there. There were also two fabulous photography exhibitions, Fervor de Bueno Aires and Street Life: Lisette Model y Helen Levitt en Nueva York

Specializes in 19th and 20th century Spanish art - entrancing
Every time we come to Malaga, we have to visit this Museum. In a lovely building but more than that it is a finely curated collection of art from the past 2 centuries. Some naturalist, some impressionist, all powerful Spanish images with remarkable use of light. It is well worth the fee and can by visited in 1 - 3 hours, depending on how engaged you become.

    Interesting collection
We went there for the termporary exhibition of Belgian Art, wonderful that was, but were also surprised by the permanent collection. Worth a visit

    Enjoyable well-presented gallery
This is a small gallery covering Spanish art from about 1860 to the First World War. It follows a definite theme and has lovely paintings by artists who should be better known . When we were there it had an exhibition of Belgian art of the same period which we enjoyed very much

    An Art lesson !
If you only visit one gallery in Malaga - visit this one ! The art is displayed on 3 floors - the lowest floor being the oldest work, progressing to more modern work on the top floor. It was a real lesson in the way that art works have changed and developed over the centuries

    A Worthwhile Visit
A beautiful building and a great, well=explained collection of Spanish art through more than 200 years. I loved the temporary exhibit on Belgian impressionists the best, but would recommend all to visit.

Great collection scanning last few centuries
A must if you are in Malaga. A really well displayed collection of unusual turn-of-the 20th century Spanish paintings (as well as much else). An interesting comparison with the Picasso Museum collection of paintings by Picasso at a similar time.

    Enchanting collection
Countess and international socialite Carmen Thyssen obviously assembled her impressively deep collection of Spanish art from the mid-19th to early 20th Centuries with an eye to the paintings' purpose. Some of the most interesting were genre paintings that bordered on kitsch -- rosy-cheeked maidens at grilled windows entertaining suitors, peasants dancing at festivals, brawls disrupting taverns. Many of these were executed in 12" X 18" formats so that 19th Century tourists could transport them back to England or America as souvenirs. One whole gallery was devoted to seascapes, several of them large format. The most technically impressive paintings showed interior scenes, such as altar boys in a cathedral, with remarkably rendered silks and brodades.

A gem of artworks just slightly off the beaten track.
If you want to while away a couple of hours then you need look no further.A few old masters and a smattering of fin de sickle and insight to Spanish bullfighting life as well as social country life in bygone Sp ain

Beautiful place to enjoy the Andalusian art
We visited the museum in the middle of the pandemic and it was a real pleasure. Very few visotors, very well organised and, most important, the art collection is beautiful. A lot of paintings with Andalusian usual sujects by various Spanish artists, most of them less known. A must visit place.

    Good taste of Spain
This is a little expensive but it is good value. An online audio guide is available so make sure your phone has a good charge and earphones. The building itself is also interesting Currently no left luggage is available- you must carry your bags The cafe is quite good for a break. Allow at least an hour but easy to spend 2 hours.

    A must visit museum!
What a fabulous museum. We spent quite some time wandering around the rooms looking at all the beautiful art. They also had some live music and dance taking place. Ended our visit with a sandwich and orange juice from the cafe which was excellent.

    A Wonderful Treasure.
We thought this was one of the highlights on a cultural tour of Malaga. The many paintings in this art gallery are mostly by Spanish artists & are absolutely wonderful. Many are so memorable & depict how life was in years gone by, with many village scenes & local events. The colours are exceptionally vibrant & they are definitely a great treasure for Malaga to have right in the centre of the old town. The building has four floors & there's a lift for easier access. The top floor seems to be reserved for temporary exhibitions & we were lucky enough to be there when the Arabian Fantasy collection was on view. A definite must when in Malaga!

Varied and interesting museum with a very nice collection of dismiss art works.
Clean and modern surroundings and not too crowded.
Worth noting it is free entry for a few hours each Sunday.

Didn’t know where to go, but happy TripAdvisor steered us here. Real art and focused on Andalusia. Ages 12, 16, 19, 19, adults. Nice gift site too. Deal for arriving after 2:30 too!

Enjoyed the first floor the most. This is my kind of art, very little modern art interest me. Miss Spain sure had a magnificent collection!

Amazing array of paintings in a well displayed and airy series of spaces. It was a Saturday afternoon when I visited and the tranquility converging with the beauty of the art made my visit even more compelling. What a wonderful place.

So I love the big London galleries and this is much more like that but with a bit of modern art thrown at the end but it was photographic art on our visit so relatively easy to relatively to. As this gallery is part of a group there is a fair bit sharing of pieces so will be a changing of exhibits. The periods and subjects covered felt well judged and really picked out the uniqueness driving the Spanish and Andalusian art when the paintings were created. I suspect the devoted could easily spend 4 hours taking it all it. There is a lot of good stuff to see and if you're around Sunday afternoon it's free

Worth to visit as incredibly rich collection of paintings
we were amazed by the quality of the images reproduced by Spanish painters of the past.
A very rich collection of paintings, many by artists from Andalusia and both Impressionists and painters from the 18th and 19th century. We were amazed by the quality of the images reproduced by the Spanish painters of the past, their technique in making characters, objects and backgrounds appear three-dimensional

A gorgeous space with beautiful art. A serene oasis from the busy streets; not expensive or crowded. We opted for this museum instead of Picasso and so glad we did.

We really enjoyed the Thyssen (slightly surprisingly). Coming from Norway, it was fascinating to observe scenes, themes and colors somewhat different from our local artists.

...of many, many, many mostly local (Andalysian) artists from the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century. A loooot of irritatingly bright and glossy landscapes and pictures from daily life, some nice darker pieces, all in all- if you are not an art buff or afficionado, you can skip, as 10 e is not so little. Nice shop. The security was a bit annoying, hovering over you if your backpack is not at your stomach, but your back or if you accidentaly step on a demarcation line...

Went here with my wife. She has mobility issues and needs a wheelchair but the museum was well prepared for her. Areas had plenty of room to move around and there were large elevators so we could get from floor to floor with no problems. It was nice to see how talented artists from the Andalucia region have been over the years, plus they also had a temporary exhibition of artists from Belgium. A nice couple of hours in Malaga.
