- chilton0 contributionsWorth the effort of finding itneed to catch a bus out of tow to visit (and then we walked back along the waterfront. Part of a converted Tobacco Factory near b in the South. The museum no longer has exhibits from The Hermitage, St Petersburg following the Ukraine war but there is a large private collection of Russian art; a poster exhibition about revolution and post revolution USSR. Also good collection of western artists -Hockney,WarholWritten March 18, 2024

- cristina c0 contributionsSad collection of largely unimpressive art in a beautiful complex of buildings. The infrastructure is the best thing about this museum: it’s in a renovated tabaco factory. The visiting exhibit of Sputnik was amazing. The Picasso drawings also very good, but the bulk of the collection is unrepresentative of how fabulous Russian art can be and it seems a waste to have such a beautiful space and fill it with unimpressive pieces. The employees were helpful and cordial, but all in all it was a disappointment. I will not return.Written January 7, 2023
- Darren C0 contributionsHomage to Russian MuseumMore a homage than a review as it’s hard to know when a Russian museum will lend a Western European museum another artwork, let alone around 300 paintings including a number of iconic works. I am not aware of another Russian Museum being so prolific in its lending. The oh-so-bitterly-ironic war-and-peace exhibition was monumental in scale. At times the number of pieces could overwhelm but it had some truly moving works and finished with a remarkable collection of modernist paintings that took the breath away. The avant-garde exhibition was a delight with some familiar crowd-pleasers. The exhibition should have been packed - and would have been in London or Paris - but I was the only one in the galleries for much of my visits. A beautiful exhibition space, let’s hope it has paintings to show in the future.Written April 17, 2022
- 248ellah0 contributionsAnnual exhibition worth it, temporary not so muchThe building itself is in a really lovely old tabacco factory so I would recommend going just for that. It's never been that busy when I have gone and there have never been any queues. The tickets are quite expensive - I would only pay for the annual exhibition really as the temporary one of Tolstoy wasn't really worth it. I have been before where they had more art from 20th Century Russia and this was a lot more interesting. The annual exhibition that they have now isn't as interesting. I was a bit disappointed that I came here a few years ago and the exhibitions were much better curated with a more engaging theme. The exhibitions currently feel a bit lackluster. In addition, the cafe and gift shop were both closed because of covid. I only spent 45 minutes here, which for 8 euros wasn't really worth it as there were only a couple of pieces which really caught my attention.Written August 30, 2021
- AlexG54680 contributionsMust see painting exhibitionAmazing war and peace painting exhibition. Totally worth a visit. The best rooms relate to the October revolution and the the two world wars. After visiting most of Malaga’s tourist attractions, I’d place this exhibition in the top five (and not on 16th place as it stands now on Tripadvisor).Written August 27, 2021
- Bruce W0 contributionsWar & Peace Exhibition:War & Peace Exhibition: We made another visit to the Museo Ruso in Malaga since before the start of Covid 19 times. This was to find out what the 2021 display was all about. The title of the exhibition was 'War and Peace'. This should give you an idea of the theme, although the emphasis was somewhat more on the part of 'War' as opposed to 'Peace'. My wife found the subject matter was a bit depressing in many cases, whereas I was more impressed by the standards of artistry and design throughout the exhibition. A special mention of the included bronze sculptures should be made. The craftsmanship of these representations of warrior horsemen is absolutely superb. Other stand-out paintings for me were the one of three men in a dugout, entitled 'Suspicious Characters'. Another, was of a family standing in the doorway of a house, entitled 'A Letter from the Front'. The third example that I am going to mention is entitled 'The Farewell'. A painting of a soldier saying goodbye to his wife/sweetheart. These paintings were particularly evocative of the many aspects of a war situation demonstrated within this exhibition. In conjunction with the 'War and Peace' exhibition were two other ancilliary exhibitions linked to it. One was about Leonid Tolstoy and his book, hence the theme for the main exhibition and the other was one devoted to the work of Ivan Aivazovsky, a painter of both tranquil and atmospheric seascapes. The Museo Ruso galleries are all set at first floor level within the former cigar/cigarette manufacturing building, but have easy access by means of a grand escalator and a lift, the lift is large enough to accommodate wheelchairs and passengers. If you wish to see all three exhibitions and are old enough to qualify for a 'senior' reduction, or are a student up to the age of 26 years, entrance is only 4 euros. Audio-guides are available in 6 languages and visitor guides are usually available between 12 noon and 13:00hrs. Thanks for reading this and if you've found it helpful I'd appreciate a ‘thumbs up’ below.Written August 16, 2021

- GranZorro0 contributionsGreat museumAs far as I know, there are not many museums worldwide which get regular loans and even whole exhibitions from Leningrad's State Museum, together with the Hermitage one of the two most important in Russia. The Russian Museum is really a feather in the cap of Malaga's administration, which put the town on the Spanish cultural map in a big way with its 35 or so museums. And it is definitely worth a visit. We saw three most interesting shows there, well curated and explained. There is free parking in the courtyard, and also a public bus to take the visitor from the town center.Written March 7, 2020
- Dadof2inBRU0 contributionsExcellent Museum, highly recommendWhat a surprise! We spent an afternoon visiting the Museo Ruso and wished we had spent the whole day. This museum is a gem of Russian/European history that was truly insightful. We added the temporary exhibitions in our visit which were phenomenal. We will visit the place again when we return to Malaga.Written March 6, 2020
- Nomad7697520 contributionsI visit every year in FebruaryBeen here every year for the last four years and always find it a perfect day out. I've nothing to add to the previous reviews regarding the excellent exhibitions and facilities here and at the Automobile exhibition next door. However the restaurant/ cafeteria is also brilliant and makes a welcome break if you are attending both exhibitions. The cafeteria is spotless, with spacious tables set for four and eight. The service is helpful and attentive, with beautiful menus and English subtitles. The food is freshly prepared, and very good value. I had a fantastic Caesar salad and a delicious apple tart to follow. A glass of vino tinto and a cafe con letche completed this lunch. Both meals presented on lovely modern, white china bowls and plates. There seldom seems many customers there which is a great pity and if people avoid it because of this, they really are missing out on a great, value for money treat.Written February 14, 2020
- johnf2608480 contributionsInteresting collectionGood little museum with an interesting collection. Best thing is they change the exhibitions annually so there’s always something different. Quite easy to get to on bus or metro, not a bad walk if you are up for it.Written February 12, 2020
- athenaelectrical930 contributionsAn out of the way gemI have recently moved to Malaga an am working my way round the many museums and art galleries. It is pretty easy to get to by bus or walking along the seaside and definitely worth the extra effort. The temporary exhibition, “Saints, Princesses and Workers” was fascinating - every painting featuring a woman in an extensive display of paintings and objects d’art from the 12th century through to the 20th century. The gallery itself is really big and there is plenty of space to look at the art in a relaxed and spacious environment, which is a pleasant change from some of the other galleries in Malaga. There are audio guides in English, as well as English translations on all exhibits, a coffee shop with good coffee, and very helpful and friendly staff. I didn't realise the extent of the exhibitions and didn't allow enough time so rushed the last few galleries - I will have to go back but at 1,35 bus fare and 8 euros entrance it will be worth it.Written January 29, 2020
- Carolyn B0 contributionsSome beautiful artwork!Next to the automobile museum and quite difficult to find, but worth a visit. Not completed yet but there are a wide selection of beautiful paintings and artefacts. Interesting to learn about Russia's history. There is a good cafeteria on site that does tapas and a menu of the day.Written December 28, 2019
- CulturvultureLeeds0 contributionsExcellent taster for a trip to galleries inside Russia. This museum is not the easiest to find which is a pity because it has, for its size, a rich collection of portraits and 19th-century Realist works as well as more predictable Socialist-Realist items from the USSR period. There is a nice cafe and shop as well as a selfie-area with interesting backgrounds. The museum often has temporary exhibitions with quite famous works on display.Written December 25, 2019

Located in a very nicely restored old building, that belonged to a tobacco plant, we enjoyed this museum a lot. We did not know how many excellent Russian painters there were. So, nive building, good paintings, kind people. Tip: right next to the Automobile Museum, which also has a nice restaurant. So can visit both.

I was visiting the collection recently and it was wonderful. Although the visit was clouded. Since, when I passed with my husband, the access with the security guard. An intimate device was seen from my bag that I was carrying.
The family behind with minors looked at me and laughed and my husband realized the situation. I was very embarrassed and felt an invasion of my intimacy and privacy. When anyone saw my things on the screen, I didn't complain because we had just enough time to go back.
It is a real shame that this type of control is allowed and who could have been the scholar who designed this in this way.
The staff were very friendly and the building was beautiful, but this incident made me have a hard time. I have traveled and visited many cultural centers and I have never seen anything like this, I hope it doesn't happen again.
