About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- LesleyG370 contributionsGreat experienceWe took the train from Malaga which was super easy to do. Once at the El Churro station you have to get a bus to the beginning of the Caminito walk. We choose a non guided walk. This was a great day out and well worth the visit.Written October 10, 2024
- ny200050 contributionsA very long dayGibraltar was great & Angel the local tour guide is fantastic. The Julia rep & couch experience spoiled the whole day. We booked through a travel agent & weren’t given any details apart from pick up time. It took 2.5 hours to get to Gibraltar & Paco the guide was a very poor speaker/ guide. Waffled in 3 languages but no one really knew what was going on. We had no time for bathroom break after that journey & it was straight on to tour bus. After that tour, we had 3 hours free time in Gibraltar which was lovely. Return trip was hot as air con on bus practically non existent. Certainly not the luxury air conditioned coach we’d been promised. Realistic journey times need to be given at point of sale so people can make informed decisions. Took an extra hour to pick up 3 people from Marbella & WyndhamWritten October 6, 2024
- F4397JRvincentb0 contributionsWhy run on a national holidayGreat communication from the host prior and during the trip but the fact they ran the trip on the day of a national bank holiday for Gibraltar was a joke! Not one shop open for obvious reasons and the bars were packed with locals celebrating and the trip to the rock was over a 4 hour wait which when you only have 3.5 hours in Gibraltar till pick up you kind of have had a wasted day. Other travel companies blocked out the BH date I’ve since found out shame this one just wanted to take people’s money without the important info.Written October 3, 2024
- flexitravel220 contributionsTake a city tour bus street are challengingThis is one of the best option to move around some of the neighbourhoods, in particular Albayzin and Sacromonte, up quite steep hills. Those two areas are up the hill, narrow streets with traffic, bicycles and runners, in addition to pedestrian. We were shocked that very few people were not using walking sticks. Main recommendation, take you walking sticks with you. Unless your are very fit, those are a must even in Alhambra.Written October 1, 2024
- nauj630 contributionsConsensus rules. Not good !Disorganised, uncomfortable & too many disrespectful staff. At best, the potential to see the main points of interest & orientate central Granada ; at worst, chaos. Don’t do this ‘attraction’ if you have any expectation of there being any sense of schedule & order, nor planning & quality. You definitely ‘take your chance’ ( like others, we too didn’t dare get off, once we’d jammed ourselves into the benches ; long legs and this transport ‘don’t go’ ) in that most people ‘hop on’ but don’t ‘hop off’, the consequence being, lots of visibly frustrated & mad tourists being left to continue waiting at many of the stops. And the commentary system is all over the place when it comes to functionality & effective communication. This experience is not expensive, but because it’s hit & miss, it’s really poor value !Written September 23, 2024
- Martin B0 contributionsA Good Train Of Thought. The only criticism we have was finding the stop at No. 9 - we found 10 and started our tour there. It's a street train, so comfort is not high on the agenda, however, this should not put you off. This ride is worth the time and money as it provides some good information (in many languages) and historical insight about the city. It is a good way to start any further exploration of the various historic buildings. Give this a go for sure.Written September 19, 2024
- R2498CVpaulinew0 contributionsUnreliable!I booked this trip. I travelled to Malaga to catch the bus. Had to pay for a hotel. When I get to my hotel I find they had cancelled it. I’m out of money and wasted time because of their disorganization. They said I didn’t answer a message they had sent me. I searched, there was no message! So disappointing. If they’d done it earlier I could have gone with another company.Written September 19, 2024
- TheGuyfromGenk0 contributionsWonderful marbleDon't pass up on this hike. The tempo is slow with enough pauses, so you don't have to fear it will be to hard. If you want to do it fast pace, without guided info, you should go alone. But im any case, do go! It'd worth the cost.Written September 15, 2024
- GlasgowAlly720 contributionsVery Informative Tour of the RockWe enjoyed a tour of the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar on 6 September 2024. We booked via TUI in the UK and were staying in Benalmadena on the Costa Del Sol, which was about 2.5 hours by bus. TUI allowed us some free time before and after the tour to buy souvenirs and lunch. The actual trip is outsourced to Blands Travel, who are based on Gibraltar. Our guide was called Angel. He was very funny, knowledgeable, and passionate about the place. A tape plays an official commentary and Angel stopped the tape periodically to provide additional details which enhanced the experience. Extra nuggets of information thrown in to help us understand more about the place. The tour guides are excellent drivers too. The buses are quite small, but the roads are very narrow and very busy. Their interactions with the native Macaque apes were excellent. These wee 'monkeys' know that the guys driving the white tour buses have food for them, and while they're distracted, us tourists could capture a few pictures. Angel and his colleagues run 3 tours a day, so they know what they're talking about and this clearly shows. If visiting Gib, pay them a visit.Written September 13, 2024
- 207lesleyq0 contributionsBeautiful placeWe did this trip with Julia travel. When booking we were advised it would be a long day with a lot of pick ups. But it was worth it. We got an hour and half in a small village on the way up. Just enough time to grab something to eat and a drink. Then onto the gauge. I don't like heights so this was to challenge myself and so glad I did. You're given a safety briefing ,hard hat and radio and earphones so your guide can tell you the history of the place. This place is stunning with beautiful views. It is well worth the long drive out. Loved every second of it. If you can drop on Jose as your guide you will have a great experience. He was witty and a pleasure to be around. He also was very reassuring.Written September 13, 2024
- melissa t0 contributionsAvoid at all costsBooked and paid for this tour 2 months ago. Had confirmation email. Emailed to confirm pick up address to be advised sorry not booked as they can’t get the entry tickets to the palace confirmed. All other tour operator options are now booked meaning we can not visit the Alhambra palace on our trip to Spain. Will not be back since coming from NZ which is a 30 hour flight. So thanks to Julia travel will miss what was anticipated to be a highlight of our trip. If I had not contacted them would they ever have advised the tour was not actually booked? Will I ever have my money returned from them… Can not warn you off ever booking with this company more. BUYER BEWARE you will not know if your apparently confirmed tour is actually booked for you until you get on it it seemsWritten September 12, 2024
- tanya_gibbons0 contributionsGreat day out in Caminito Del ReyPrompt pick up from Julia's travel although if I could make a suggestion it would have been more reassuring to have a sign or notice at the bus stop so we knew for sure we were waiting in the correct place for pick up. That said, our coach arrived and we were met by the lovely Javier. We had a short stop for snacks and the toilet before commencing our walk. The trip advertised that we would stop at a village on route but those plans were changed due to it being a public holiday. It was a shame but not a problem as the point of the trip was to visit Caminito del Rey. Javier gave us lots of interesting information throughout the trip. He was really informative and prioritised safety. The walk was excellent, very high at times as expected. Definately not for people who are afraid of heights. The walkways were in perfect condition and I felt safe throughout. We learned so much about the area, wildlife and its history from Javiers audio guided tour. Would definately recommend this trip . Thanks Javier from the 3 welsh girls.Written September 10, 2024

- F5043TIsarahc0 contributionsHorribly long queues and a wait of over fifty minutes, then no commentary. This company exists only because there is no rival or competition. Having booked tickets the previous day, we discovered that despite waiting at plaza nueva, it was fifty minutes before a bus arrived with enough space to take us. Then having got us all aboard and on our way I asked at the next stop why there was no commentary and was told it was broken. The only saving grace of the trip was the driver who was kind and thoughtful to an elderly disabled lady and was very apologetic. We didn’t dare ‘hop off’ once we had a seat for fear of never getting a space to get back to the city centre. Don’t use this company unless you really have to!Written September 5, 2024

Avoiding Alhambra and Granada tour with Julia grey line in Malaga
Sep 2024 • Family
Positive communication , objectivity , respect , ethical behaviour and professionalism are basic qualities that any tour guide has to respect .
confirmations and reminders about the trip are usually sent a day or two before the trip
Functional air conditioning and breathable air on the bus are undeniably important for the passengers.
We were scheduled at 8:10 am on a defined bus station to be picked up . I ve sent an email to the company asking if there were any changes about the departure time since no confirmation was sent by the company without any answer .
As planned at 8:10 we were stepping inside the bus
The first issue
The tour guide checked her watch and it was 8:10 and said that I should have been there earlier , I asked her why I wasn’t informed since the company wants us to be earlier ( that was a first issue with the tour guide who seemed to impose her own rules .
The second issue
The air conditioning was not adequate , a poor air quality wit a stinking air forced me to use a mask to be able to breathe .
Third issue
We booked our trip in French since it was mentioned that the tour langages are English French Spanish and another langage . However for the Alhambra tour the guide convinced us the follow the English speaking group since it was only a small group and the French -German group is crowded
Actually there was no French speaking group for Alhambra , moreover , despite discussing on a personal Level with the guide , she did not even once address us in French during all the group explanations on the bus she used four languages English Spanish German and Italian . The agreement was to follow the English speaking group on the Alhambra tour only …
The fourth issue non ethical diffamation against a fast food chain in front of all the group members ( me te than 30 )
As a geographic repair in Granada we stood in front of a burger …. Store . She used to split with disgust while mentioning the name of burger… in each used language English ,Spanish ,German and Italian .
Last issue
When me and my wife asked about wifi internet connection o n the bus
She mentioned that it was taken away because of the Covid
Would I recommend taking that tour with mi…..e another time It’s a No No No
I prefer professional , balanced and objective tour guide

Dear jeffmarana,
Thank you for taking the time to write this review,
It saddens me to learn that you were not satisfied with the Alhambra from Costa del Sol tour,
I would like to inform you that for all our tours from Costa del Sol, we request customers to reconfirm the tour and meeting point details with our Costa del Sol Office 24 or 48 hours before the tour. This requirement is informed to all authorized selling points and agencies.
Although our buses are frequently exanimated to make sure that all of the features are working properly, unfortunately, this kind of issue with the air conditioning may appear during the tour.
I will take your comments into account as we highly value our customer's feedback.
Best regards,

Fantastic, I have done many excursions in many cities and with other Trips Agencies and I was pleasantly surprised by the whole excursion. The Guide was explaining from the departure of Malaga what the whole tour was going to be and what we were going to see, apart from that he explained from origin a lot of stories of the towns of the region.
In general I would repeat without a doubt.

Guide on the bus to go very interesting and gave lots of details along the way. The guide at the Alhambra palace and garden was excellent and professional. Time to relax and visit perfectly adequate. I recommend without restrictions except that you still need to have a good walking habit.

Perfectly organized. Even hotel pickup was possible on request. Fantastic tour guide - clean, air-conditioned bus. The time in Granada is a bit short (assuming you want to go out for lunch). Guide in Alhambra was excellent - really recommended!! Thank you to the whole team at Julia Travel Costa.

Jul 2018 • Couples
Initially when we phoned to confirm our booking and pick up point, we were told we could not be picked up from our hotel even though it had previously been requested. Ensure you arrive to the pick up point early as our coach left before the designated time, with some people just making it.
For our tour we paid extra to ensure we could visit Alcazaba. However, we were very disappointed to find out that we wouldn't visit that as they hadn't allocated enough time, despite the time slot being printed on our tickets. We did visit some gardens, Charles V palace and the general life gardens. But not what we specifically paid extra to visit.
Furthermore, in the afternoon we spent 3 and half hours (which was more time than spent at Alhambra) walking around Grenada. However this was by ourselves without a tour guide and was a complete waste of time, which could of been used to visit the other sights we had paid for in Alhambra.
Overall very disappointed and feel we should have a partial refund as the trip is not as described and not good value for money.

Dear NBarnesWSussex,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review on your tour to Granada with us.
We do hold pick up from several hotels in Costa del Sol. However, not every hotel is included in that listing and when it is not possible for us to hold a pick up in a particular hotel we always confirm its closest alternative. Likewise, due to traffic conditions we always advise our customers to be at the meeting point at least 15 minutes in advance of the meeting time.
On the other hand, I have to state we do visit the Alcazaba on the tour you booked. I will personally investigate the reason you might not have visited it during your visit.
I regret you did not enjoy the free time given to visit Granada as it is a much praised part of the tour. It gives participants the opportunity to enjoy the great gastronomy and tapas of the city as well as to wander through its charming streets.
Best regards,
Edgar W.

Azul Verano trip to Grenada and Alhambra
Jun 2018 • Friends
We went on this excursion with Azul Verano from Nerja and was not told that we could not visit the palace but paid the same amount of money just for the gardens! No comfort break from getting on the coach to finishing the garden tour. Supposed to be trip to do shopping in Grenada but by the time the tour had finished of part of the cathedral(had to pay extra for additional section)it was siesta time and shops were closing!
Felt we had been 'ripped off'. Badly planned trip by the tour company.

Dear 565loobyloo58,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your experience on our tour to Granada.
I believe there was a bit of miscommunication when you booked through a third party since we always make clear when the tour includes the Palacios Nazaríes. As you might be already aware entrance to the Alhambra is very controlled and limited, which is the reason there are very few seats available for this particular tour. Moreover, the entrance has a set time to access the premises and therefore the schedule is thigh at the beginning of the tour.
Regarding the free time given, I am sorry you could not wander the city for shopping what you were looking for. However, the tour is aimed to give the participants the opportunity to enjoy and experience the Spanish culture, the wonderful tapas and to walk the magical streets of Granada.
Best regards,
Edgar W

Granada Walking Tour/Julia
Oct 2018 • Solo
Excellent. The tour is almost entirely the Alhambra which is astonishing. Bus drops you off at the main entrance. Our Alhambra guide was very good. He explained a lot. Gave us loads of time for looking, photos and asking questions. How much time you have in Granada depends on how long you take in the Alhambra. We were well over 3 hours. A word of warning. You are on your feet from when you leave the bus until you get to lunch which is in Granada, which you walk downhill to. We had a couple of hours then it was time to walk to the bus which was 20 mins away. Around 5 to 6 hours walking. The tour guide was very good too. Very informative. Did very well especially considering he was speaking in 4 languages! I did this tour at the end of October and it was 25C. Personally I would have found the heat in summer very difficult. The bus journey is around 2 hrs on the road but it does a 15 min toilet break on the way there and 30 mins on the way back. I left from Malaga at 8am and returned just after 7.15pm. If you are late, even by a few minutes, for the bus in the morning, it will leave without you. Worth phoning the company and double checking the pick up point as there are a lot of roadworks in central Malaga at the moment. Don’t be late! All in all a great day and well worth it.

Dear roddyc219,
Thank you so much for your review! I will make sure that it reaches the corresponding manager and guides for that day.
As you well say, it is important to reconfirm the pickup time for the tours, especially from those departing from Malaga, as due to the number of stops towards the destination we will not be able to wait for those passengers running late.
Alhambra is an incredibly beautiful building that must be visited whether it is your first time in the area or you have been there before, and I am glad you choose us for this activity. I look forward to seeing you on any of our tours in the future.
Kind regards,
Edgar W.

I went on this tour from Malaga but there are literally dozens of guides and tours available. Everyone starts from the Tourist Centre at the entrance to the Alhambra where all the buses drop off. You might be better to do a walking tour from Granada and/or get the tourist train up to the top of the hill and get a tour from there. Roddy

What time you will be picked up from the hotel in Malaga.

Hi.
The tour goes all through all the palaces/rooms in the Alhambra. There is no pick up at hotels in Malaga despite what they say. The pick up point is central but I did take the time the previous day to find out where it was and how long it took me to get there as there are major engineering works going on. Bus pick up time is 8am. We left about 3 minutes after that as soon as we were checked on the bus. If you’re not there they will leave.
