- ckshaffer0500All I can say is WOWYou should not miss this Rhine river cruise. I felt like I was in a model train set because the river, the hills & trees, the towns and the castles were perfect. Also our tour guide did an excellent job of explaining the area and making us laugh. We stopped for lunch which was delicious. Everything was perfect.
- KRISHANPAUL00Good experienceGood itinerary. Knowledgeable guide. Good transport. Lunch experience needs some improvement. Pricing appears on a high
- Leona B00Boat ride makes it worth it.It was wonderful to get out of the city and see the famous Rhine Valley. The bus was clean and modern the driver was very good. We travelled on. Sunday so the traffic was light. The boat also clean and modern, on time, and as the weather was great we could sit on the top deck. Views were fantastic, castles, vineyards and quaint towns. Good value for the cost. Things I would improve: more detailed itinerary. Would be nice to know that your one meal stop wouldn’t be until 4 pm. A timeline of the days events with a written note of what stop to get off at (on the boat). Those big German names just don’t stick when verbally told. The restaurant could just be described as odd. You will pass beautiful cafes along the river to go into your restaurant which is a hoarders paradise. Plastic grapes and vines and mermaids and and and. Dark, low ceiling. Since meals were pre-ordered I found it odd that the food was not ready within a few minutes of arrival. (Keep in mind most would have not eaten since breakfast and it’s now 4 pm). Wine tasting was even in a darker, more cluttered room. A walk along the river or perhaps a stop at some shops would have been nicer. Overall the good out weighed the odd.
- 766janinee00Ity was okay. Nothing special.Guide could have been informative in this tour. Especially on the 1 hour bus ride there. Also at he castle . Seemed we had to ask alot of questions to get information.
- 677jaye00Visit to Castle and town on small busOk, nothing special. Visited castle which was nice, but you do not go inside. 1 hour each way, about an hour around the castle and another hour or so in the local square. Had a pleasant lunch on our own at the square. Pleasant way to spend the day.
- Jph2200Excellent Day Trip from FrankfurtMy family and I had the most wonderful day tour of Heidelberg. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and funny and led the tour in perfect English. We had ample time to explore the breathtaking Old Town before taking the funicular up to the castle. Would highly recommend the tour as a day trip from Frankfurt!
- 738natassam00So beautiful! The trip along the Rhine river was magnificent! I chose the full day excursion, and I wish it had lasted more, especially the river cruise. Countryside was so beautiful! our guide was a very polite gentleman with many information about the area.
- TAFN00Not worth the money, Bad driving and rude “tour guide”Take a train instead. Its really not worth the money. Its too rushed and not really a tour anyways, its just a drive. Do It Yourself!
- Y237WFjaninep00Beautiful CountrysideThe trip along the Rhine was truly spectacular. If you love being out of the hustle of the city to watch castles go by and beautiful countryside this is the trip. Our guide Michael was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
- Brenda W00Don’t miss this tour!Michael was a wonderful tour guide. Beautiful day for a cruise, lunch and wine tasting. He was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Lunch was excellent.
- mathishad00Great city with historyA short bus ride from Frankfurt to this beautiful city with interesting history. Many scenic views which was very relaxing. This trip would give you a quick snapshot & if interested, possibility of returning back to spend few days.
- Shelby M00Castles everywhereThe Rhine river is a definite must when coming to this area. We chose a full day activity and my only complaint was the boat ride was only about an hour and a half. I was expecting to spend a lot more time on the river, but we made the best of it. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip a lot of fun. I enjoyed the small town we boarded the boat in and the lunch was very good. Despite the overwhelming decor in the restaurant, it was surprisingly clean! Overall, a great time.
- Shelby M00Castle RunThe time spent at the castle felt very rushed, but we were allotted more time in the city to explore on our own thankfully. If you’re wanting to take your time and walk the grounds of Heidelberg, I suggest picking a different option. Our tour guide was fantastic, I just think the time was not sufficient.
- Gaby U00HeidelbergTrip started a little later than scheduled, but was enjoyable. Felt a bit rushed thru the castle, but guide was very knowledgeable
- Kathy K00Beautiful castle but had a guide that spoke very little EnglishOur driver (tour guide) Mike seemed like a nice guy but spoke very little English and was quiet and reserved (perhaps the language barrier) so we didnt get much information during our drive to the castle. Once you're there you take a shuttle to the entrance and another guide walks you through the castle (which was great).

it was a really nice trip. On our way to Rothenburg, our tour guide (Peter) took a more scenic route through the countryside and small German towns which was a real treat instead of all highway travel. In Rothenburg, we visited St. Josef's church - which was amazing since it was originally built in 1311. However, since we spent a lot of time in the church discussing all the AMAZING wooden sculptures, etc, I felt our shopping time and lunch time was limited. I would have enjoyed extending the tour an hour to allow for more shopping and sightseeing through the village. The Christmas stores were beautiful and full of handmade crafted treasures. We ate lunch at a Ratsstube Restaurant right across from the town hall. it was so quaint with authentic decor, friendly service and delicious food. We were originally scheduled to take the Baden Baden/Black Forest tour but it was cancelled so we took this trip instead on our last full day. I don't think the cost for this trip is merited since we only stopped in one town and we needed more time to tour the town (& shop). It took 2 hours to get there so I'm not sure if the cost is due to gas cost and time.
I do have one important suggestion for the tour guides in Frankfurt Germany - there needs to be a step stool available for tourists to use getting in and out of the van. I'm 5'6" and it was a big distance from the van to step down to the low curbs.
Thanks for a memorable tour and experience!

Our Guide was excellent, and he knew a ton of information about both the town and the church. The tour was tight on time, and we would have liked more time in the town to walk around but that was not a fault of the guide. Rothenburg is a really cute town, and its great to just wander around. The Churches are nice to visit, but a bit long winded for me.

The town was beautiful and our tour guide Boris was amazing! Perfect balance of informative narration, good conversation and giving us the autonomy to explore on our own! Would definitely recommend

This should have been an awesome review. ETS combined us with another tour (Heidelburg & Castle) and therefore shortened our Full day in Rothenburg experience.
We had already been to Heidelburg and zero interest in going.
After we left the meet up point in Frankfurt and were leaving the city, the tour guide/driver told us where we were heading. The three of us were shocked.
We paid for a full day in Rothenburg, and got there 40minutes before everything closed. We arrived, ate and didn't get to go in the places we paid for. It was a total bust. Also after our drawn out meal, we were walking around in the dark and couldn't appreciate the architecture.
Meanwhile the people who paid for a shorter day, didn't get back until much later than they planned. They were shocked at the situation as well, and felt sorry for our loss.
The whole day really let us down, as we had one shot to see Rothenburg, and ETS blew it.
When we emailed ETS asking for compensation/discount for being deceived, they blew us off and said we should be happy that we got to see two cities. The response was arrogant and off putting.
They are not an honest tour company.
The sad thing is, I work in the travel industry and could have thrown a lot of business their way. It just goes to show how short sited they are about their reputation and potential.

Unfortunately it is not possible for us to reconstruct what
exactly happened as there are many informations missing.
We need to know the booking reference number and the tour date and maybe the clients name. Then we can check which tourguide was with them and give an appropriate answer to the below review.

I joined this one day guided tour and the town was great place to visit! But I am giving 3 star review because unfortunately our guide, Teddy, was not so good. It was a small group of 6 and he mainly talked to only couple from Australia sitting in the 2nd row of the van and his voice was so soft we could hardly hear him in the back. Lunch was included in this tour (which I did not know...but others told me during the tour) but nothing was offered even I told him I was quite hungry around 2pm while he was touring us in town. He said we will finished this tour at 2:30pm and we can go to restaurant for lunch... that means we had less time just for ourselves to walk around town. It was a small group but he kept talking only to a few individuals so the rest of the group could not hear him much. (I tried to walk right next to him and that was the only way to hear him) After the tour, I checked the tour flyer in the office and realized that lunch was included and told a gentleman at the desk that we did not receive lunch. He talked to Teddy and Teddy said he offered but nobody wanted lunch and took sandwiches from the back of the van. He could not possibly give them to us because he was driving the whole time! I told them it is too late but I found it will do anything so I left. I don't think it was a language issue which they might say because 4 of us are from non English speaking country... but we had a couple from Australia and I lived in English speaking country over 20 years and others too understand him quite well. I joined another tour (Rhine river cruise) by ETS the day before and really enjoyed it and the guide Michael was really good so I had a high expectation of the tour guide...

My wife and I, on holiday to Frankfurt, scheduled the day tour to Rothenburg.
The day before our tour we were notified the driver was sick and the tour needed to be rescheduled. A couple of days later, a day before the rescheduled tour, we were notified the vehicle had issues and was undergoing repair.
So a tour - rescheduled twice - without actually occurring, is horribly managed. I cannot review the tour - only the operator; as we were never able to take the tour in 1 week of being in Frankfurt.
As of this writing Viator is processing a refund. No other reparations have been offered. It amazes me there is no backup for tour guides or vehicles. This impacted our stay as we had to rearrange our personal schedule to match the rescheduled and cancelled tours.
Very disappointing is truly an understatement.

We lucked out and were the only ones on this small group trip. Thank you for not cancelling on us. Our guide Thomas was wonderful. He explained many things about the country to us in addition to pointing out interesting sights on our way to Rothenburg. Once there he walked us around the classic preserved town pointing out interesting architecture styles, building features, city layout and shops/stores/restaurants. We had plenty of time on our own to roam around the city and explore. Afterwards he walked us along the wall back to our car. Along the way Thomas knew exactly where the best photo spots were and took some great pictures for our memories. The trip back was just as interesting as we got to know Germany and our guide. This was one of my favorite places and thank you Thomas for making our trip memorable.

Does this tour travel the Romantic Road or autobahn to Rothenburg? How much free time is available to travelers?

I've read reviews of this particular excursion and wonder if you are driven to Rothenburg via the Romantic Road or Autobahn. How much of this tour is guided and how much is free time? What is the departure time from Rothenburg to arrive in Frankfurt? Thanks.—Nancy
