Barca boats in Hamburg in general have the highest quality services taking into consideration the cost factor so the cost-benefit ratio is really good. The staff are super nice they speak English and German and the sailing experience was great as well. I’d love to book again in the future.

The whole trip was fun and thrilling. The sailer was very interactive and made the experience worth while. He even allowed my fiancé to help him with the sailing which was really nice to see! Overall, it truly was an adventure :)

I would like to give this a higher review, but unfortunately, our expectations were certainly not met. We paid for an English speaking tour, and not a single word of English other than watch your head was ever uttered. I’m sure that the tour guide was very interesting as the German speakers on the boat seemed to enjoy his commentary, with many gasps and laughter, but he never told us what he was saying, even though I explained that we spoke no German at the beginning and checked multiple times that this was an English speaking tour. It says it right on the ticket, but it just isn’t true. We tried to obtain a partial refund since we could’ve gotten the same effect riding around in a paddle boat for a 10th of the price, but Viator seemed to think that it’s OK that we had a German tour when we paid for English. Truthfully, the tour guide/captain was almost rude in his talking over us to the people on the other side of us. I would’ve been embarrassed to be the Germans on that boat if my role had been reversed. We even tried to use our translator but he wasn’t speaking loud enough for it to pick up any but every 10th word. I understand people wanting you to learn the language of their country, but when you’re only visiting for a short period of time, that’s just not possible, and that was why we were looking for English-speaking tours particularly, because we don’t expect everyone to speak English so we go out of our way to find English tours. The fact that they claimed to be English speaking and weren’t is just an example of what my German friends call the German “service desert”. They weren’t surprised, but they were disappointed, as was I.

Wonderful relaxing cruise around the lake with a group of friends. Henning was really accommodating and was able to arrange a boat for us a couple of days before the summer season kicked off. He was accessible and friendly throughout the booking phase, giving clear directions to find the boat. The cruise was expertly driven by Rainer. Beautiful boats with sails set in perfect locations with wonderful views. For someone with fear of water, quickly overcame my fear and enjoyed the journey throughly. Henning is great and made us feel very relaxed and we had so much confident in him. My two year old and my brother also loved the trip. It will remain very special memory for us.

We had a great few hours on the water with Henning! It was the perfect activity for our pirate themed hen party and we'd recommend it to everyone.

Nice little pedal boats to take along the Alster and seeing the first row of delightful houses built around the lake. All of us enjoyed the hour spent greatly.

When I visited Hamburg with my son this summer, I looked for attractions and activities beyond "the usual". So I came across Henning and the Grosse Freiheit, a beautiful two master. Already the email contact was very friendly. Since the weather was not so nice, there were no other people, but Henning was kind enough to go with the two of us ... Enjoying the favorite sports of many local people made us fell part of the city we visited and of course we are a bit jealous, since we can't do that more often.

On our recent stay in Hamburg we were treated to a 2 hour-tour with Kutter Kaept'n Henning and his two-master, the Grosse Freiheit, on the beautiful Aussenalster. The boat is beautiful (lots of polished wood) and comfortable, with a mattress in the bow area that had my kids (7, 10 and 11) lying down on their backs and later hopping to their favorite songs that Kaept'n Henning played for them. He had also organized a little treasure hunt for them that had us criss-crossing the Aussenalster, looking for clues and the mermaid's treasure - the kids had a blast, and sitting still on a boat turned out not to be an issue at all! This is a lovely way to experience Hamburg from the water: Kaept'n Henning knew to point out all kinds of buildings and tell stories about them, and we all enjoyed lending a hand on board, or dipping hands in the water, or just sitting there, soaking up the sun and breeze. Don't miss out on this fun!
