There’s only so much history one person can take! That’s exactly why we decided to take part in the alternative Berlin free walking tour with our guide, Roo (Ru? sp?). Roo was a fantastic guide and cool guy. He was entertaining and personable and seemed to really enjoy passing on his knowledge of the local area. This tour showed me the Berlin I’d been looking for and took me to places I might not have found it left to my own devices.
If you’re looking for the ‘real’ Berlin, don’t hesitate to take part in a tour :)

Dave was an tremendous guide, who kept us interested for more than three hours on a cold winter day. He's engaged in and knowledgeable about his subject, whether street art, graffiti (question one was "does anyone know the difference?"), food, alternative culture, politics, or music (and probably anything else he talks about, as he's clearly a seriously bright guy). He's also extremely funny, and took some time after the tour to sit with us and fill us in on specific whats/wheres of Berlin specific to our interests.
Taking the tour on our first full day in town was an exceptionally good choice.
(Apparently I'm not allowed to use profanity on TripAdvisor. Well, Dave is allowed to use it on the tour, and I did, too. If you don't want to hear bad words, take another tour.)

This tour provides an insight into 2 neighbourhoods in Berlin that would be challenging to get a feel for unless one has over a week in the city. Certainly was refreshing to get away from the tourist hot spots. Our guide Jason provided excellent info on the history, characteristics, demographics of the areas as well as additional interesting places to see that he didn’t have time for. The companies description of the tour lists more than is possible to see in the allotted time so you will probably want to continue on your own after the tour is done.

I decided to take this guided tour after a long research and as a recommendation from a blog.
However I must say,
it shouldn't just be a recommendation but a MUST for anyone inquisitive enough to wanna get a better glance of what the real Berlin is nowadays.
Michael David should also be considered the highlight of the whole tour, as he is not just funny but great at cross referencing with fictional characters and quotes.
My experience at Berlin simply got an upgrade by choosing this guided tour.
Thank you Michael.

I can't imagine a better way to spend 4.5 hours in Berlin than on a walking tour with MD (Michael David). With encyclopedic knowledge, unparalled enthusiasm for his subject matters, and great care for the experience/enjoyment of his tour attendees, MD teaches a rich history of many little-known features of Berlin and provides context for how Berlin has become the place that it is... and is becoming. Told from the perspective of a person who clearly loves their adopted country, this tour is fun, informative and inspiring all at once. Don't miss it!

We did the alternative Berlin free walking tour with Nicole on Wednesday.
Her knowledge and passion made the tour as was her personality.
Would definitely recommend.
Good to see the tourist side of Berlin which we also did with free tours but we preferred this tour.
Thanks again Nicole for a great tour.

I travel a lot and I always take walking tours because for me it's the best way to understand a new place in a short amount of time. On business trips I've gone so far as to hire experts in Buenos Aires and Beirut to take me around to the real deal places. I have to say that of all the tours I've taken MD's tour of Berlin was the most comprehensive and entertaining. MD knows his city and has an almost childlike curiosity and enthusiasm that is contagious. I can't recommend his tour highly enough.

Our guide MD introduced himself as 'the talker' and talk he did! Lots of interesting stories on the history of counterculture in Berlin. We spent around 5 hours instead of 4, the group became highly interactive and chatty and everyone had a great time. We talked about Einsturzende Neubauten (a lot), David Bowie (a little) and bands that are so obscure that I will refrain from mentioning them here. The tour ended with drinks in a place where you would never have ended up had it not been for the tour. We only had about 48hrs in total in the city, and the tour was an immensely efficient way to get a feel for the city. When we return, we'll know where to go! Thanks Michael!

Great neighbourhood level tour. Would recommend. Fantastic explanation of Berlin’s modern history. Little known and yet important background to what has shaped so much of what we see today. Take good shoes, an umbrella and an open mind. Question what you see to get the most of what is shown. Our guide Nicole was passionate about her city and it’s people and what they have made of Berlin. She has many “reveals” as you walk around so photos would spoil surprises. It’s a really full half day.
