- 851DavidK0 contributionsFabulous tour ! Don’t miss! The tour was great. Very interesting. Very informative about Berlin during the 20’s and 30’s and saw so many things. Dan, the tour guide, really knew so much and made a great presentationWritten July 25, 2024
- miredlyr0 contributionsExcellent tourOur wonderful guide Dan masterfully presented the history of Berlin's division during the Cold War in an interesting but also humorous way which completely captured the attention of our 13 year old budding history buff. It was an amazing tour and we covered a lot in the span of time allotted. Definitely would recommend to anyone interested in history, art and architecture of the city.Written July 23, 2024
- carlyinatunnel0 contributionsUncover a different side of Berlin - a great time!Very knowledgeable and fun guide, learnt so much about the culture of Berlin through the lens of queer history. Go on this tour, you won't regret it!Written July 10, 2024
- P1077LUkatiev0 contributionsA witty and personal tour of LGBTQ Berlin for cinema + music lovers or anyone who wants to have fun in good company!A witty and personal tour of LGBTQ Berlin, interweaving the lives and frequented locales of figures like Christopher Isherwood, Marlene Dietrich, Magnus Hirschfeld, Jean Ross, David Bowie, Romy Haag and many others. In this personal tour, Amidst architectural gems, Dan shares his own anecdotes as a Berliner of over 20 years, infusing the tour with the sights, sounds, and cinematic references of the 1930’s-90’s. Highly recommended! I loved this tour and so enjoyed meeting everyone who joined as well.Written May 13, 2024
- C1579EMisabelb0 contributions3 hour tour went by too fasti learned so much of Berlin that i didn‘t know before! Dan is a charming tourguide because he has a lot of knowledge of the history of gay berlin and also adds personal touches by telling personal stories. he gives interesting details without sounding like a teacher (the storys about bowie and marlene dietrich were my favorite part!) i also enjoyed that he added a soundtrack to the highlights of the tour by playing songs on his phone while taking us to the various places. the 3 hours flew by way too fast. i would highly recommend this tour.Written May 6, 2024
- Wander013888007060 contributionsgood mix of information and funI learned an incredible amount about Berlin's queer history: lots of surprising details and anecdotes. Our guide Dan was entertaining and humorous. His stories are accompanied by pictures and music. Highly recommended!Written May 6, 2024
- Motorlu0 contributionsSuper fun and engaging way to discover especially about the cultural and political landscapes of the Weimar pMy sister and I had so much fun taking Dan’s musical tour yesterday. We got to see many parts of the city in a short period of time. Dan came to Berlin before the wall came down and his personal experience is just as interesting as the many fascinating stories he told us about the LGBTQ history of Berlin—his tour goes back centuries and includes several of the most famous people in the history of Germany! This is a thought provoking and entertaining way to learn about the cultural and political landscapes of Weimar and Imperial Germany, as well as Berlin during the Cold War and the holocaust. By far in the top three tours I have ever taken. Ask Dan for the soundtrack of the tour 🌈 🤩Written May 6, 2024
- carolhJ4673SZ0 contributionsA great storyteller! This tour with forrest was a very good experience in Berlin! Forrest is a: -walking encyclopedia -great story teller -very social And he points out things you want to know and see that we wouldnt have noticed without him!Written November 6, 2023
- Companion4738940 contributionsExcellent tour of Jewish history in BerlinThis was an outstanding tour of Jewish history in Berlin. Our guide, Ronan, was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He shared fascinating stories going back in history to the Jewish people’s arrival in Berlin until the present day. And of course we saw many places we wouldn’t have recognized as vital to Jewish history in Berlin. Lots of opportunity to ask questions. I strongly recommend this tour.Written October 10, 2023
- justinp910 contributionsBowie is a micocosm of Berlin!Ronen was our tour guide and each sentence he spoke was a like a brilliant essay on Berlin, crafted beautiful with a message that hit me as true, surprising and powerful (even more powerful because it was surprising). We started with understand why Bowie chose Berlin, a city divided, a city of two characters. Ronen used the couple of year David Bowie spent in Berlin as a micocosm for the whole Berlin ecosystem - it really was a journey through the city. It’s simply the best city tour I have been onWritten October 4, 2023
- tumbleweed370 contributionsSpecial Private Introduction to BerlinWe had a great tour with Forrest. He did a great job adapting the tour to include a section on Jewish Berlin to suit the interests of our visiting friends. He was a great tour guide - easygoing and highly knowledgeable. We felt like we had only scratched the surface of his knowledge of Berlin's history. We're residents of Berlin, and not only did our visitors have a great introduction to Berlin, but we also learned a lot about our own neighborhood.Written October 2, 2023
- klausw4630 contributionsA throroughly enjoyable experience - not only for Bowie fans!A fantastic tour! Ronen was bubbling over with interesting facts and entertaining anecdotes, which were fascinating also for providing a picture of the divided city of the time. A throroughly enjoyable experience - not only for Bowie fans!Written October 2, 2023
- srZ745NL0 contributionsA walk around Kreuzberg, BerlinIt’s hard to please a group of “smarty pants” who claim to know the town - but Klaus did it, and he did it well, with passion and patience. People particularly loved the stop at “Markthalle 9”, and the group laughed out loud on Rio-Reiser-Platz, where anecdotes about the singer/songwriter were exchanged. All in all, it was the walking around the places of interest that stood out, i.e. Klaus’ choice of locations for our little stops: everybody “kind of knows” Kreuzberg, and people told me, they would visit occasionally, but no one ever walked the whole ‘hood. So, people were surprised about the connections that Klaus made evident on the tour. Also, the restaurant recommendation was a big hit!Written September 5, 2023
- Han S0 contributionsBowie at 30,40,50 and 60!Dan Borden from Insight Cities (out of Seattle, WA) gave us a spectacular time-capsule of a whirlwind tour that culminated in the diverse neighborhood that became home to the starman from Brixton. The tour ended at the apartment that David Bowie made home of as a Berliner in 1977. Dan took us through the life that Bowie chose in this divided city (circa GDR) leaving the safe confines of the Hollywood Hills to live amongst the immigrant rich populations of inner city Berlin. David Bowie often rode his bike in 1977 to Hansa Studios while working on Low and hit-inspired tunes like “Heroes”. As a young father at 30 years of age, he was mesmerized by the city. Dan went into detail highlighting the many colorful visits that Bowie made in Berlin hobnobbing with Tilda Swinton and working with the likes of Iggy Pop (his friend and roommate at the time), Brian Eno and Tony Visconti…, etc. Dan Borden showcased a fascinating and exuberant time when creativity had no bounds set against the backdrop of a very creatively vibrant city. Highly recommended tour even if you were not such a huge Bowie fan! You soon will be.Written August 25, 2023

Martin was our tour-guide and not only does he know a lot about Bowie and the history of Berlin in general, he is also a great storyteller. The Berlin Wall, the Dschungel or imagining how Bowie is cycling through Berlin to do some grocery shopping at KaDeWe, Martin is able to visualize the setting of Berlin at that specific time. I definitely recommend the tour if you are a Bowie fan and /or if you want to know more about postwar-Berlin.

Dragged my teenagers on this tour as part of their music education and they found it very interesting. Our guide was Dan who was sensitive to the ages of the children in terms of what he shared about Bowie’s life in Berlin. We used a transport pass to take a few tube trips and one bus in visiting places which had either inspired Bowie or where he had visited/lived. One thing which resonated was that Bowie has lived in Berlin before the wall came down which brought home how recent the existence of wall has been - history but so Lucy recent history. Dan also talked about other artists as well (U2 and Depeche Mode) when relevant to what we were seeing. The teenagers found it amusing that we were following a chap with a speaker in his bag blasting out Bowie songs…. Enough to make the teens cringe (which is now hard). I learnt some things which will stay with me as I continue to listen to his music.

This tour was amazing, I am a very big fan of David Bowie and I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to know more about this artist and this city.
Dan, our guide, was really informative and funny. I learned a lot and it was quite emotional walking the streets of Berlin listening to his music (Dan has a speaker in his bag). Highly recommended.

Our guide Lee truly emersed us in Berlin in the 70’s and what it was like for Bowie whilst he was making the Berlin Trilogy. Admittedly my teenagers came because of me however we have not stopped talking about the stories and facts we learned today. The influences of the movie Caberet, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, amongst others …Depeche Mode. Cannot recommend this tour for a unique glimpse of Berlin’s history with a Bowie lens.

Our guide Lee, was very engaging, humorous and knowledgeable from the start of the tour to the end. The tour had a mixture and balance of Cold War Berlin along with stories of how Bowie came to Berlin and then stayed during the 70s whilst writing three albums here. We visited the key sites with music playing to accompany what Lee was describing to the group, often highlighting specific lyrics that related to the place we visited. Musical connections to other artists who either influenced Bowie or were influenced by Bowie.
We wanted a combination of historic Berlin whilst wanting to learn about Bowie in Berlin. This tour is well structured and was delivered superbly. The three hours we spent with Lee went too quickly. Throughly enjoyable and entertaining!! This is a great tour with a mixture of history and music. A must if you are visiting Berlin.

Amazing tour with Martin who showed us great parts of Berlin history and educated us on really interesting facts that even us Bowie-fans did not know. Even with rainy weather we had a wonderful walking tour and got to see great new parts of the city. We cant recommend more this tour for an afternoon on any length trip.

You don’t have to be a huge Bowie fan to enjoy this trip which give you a great insight into what would have brought people like Bowie and Iggy Pop to Berlin in the 70s and the city they would have experienced. It takes you to parts of the city not on the standard tours, and our guide Ronen really brought that era and the city to life. Well researched and delivered.

We should have guessed that the tall man standing in the middle of the street blasting out Heroes loudly on his iPad was our David Bowie in Berlin walking tour guide, but we were so flustered by being late thanks to a major festival taking place that weekend in Berlin and focusing on parking our Lime scooters, that we assumed he was just another Berlin character.
Lee is indeed another Berlin character having lived in the City for several decades but a likeable, informative and knowledgeable one who is a historian by trade but also an expert on Bowie's life in Berlin. The result was a tour that combines a slice of history during a unique era, Bowie's unique time in Berlin with his friend Jimmy alias Iggy Pop and a unique tour of the City. We cannot recommend it highly enough for it encompasses the Berlin wall, German Expressionism in art and theatre, music history, for Bowie made history at the Berlin wall, and the historical music studio where Bowie recorded Heroes.
The tour started with Bertold Brecht and a restaurant that Iggy and Bowie ate at regularly in East Berlin on day visits from the West and finished at Bowie's apartment in the Turkish quarter of Berlin where his life was thoroughly more domestic. Throughout the tour - on foot and on the metro - the sound of music is threaded through on Lee's iPad which still lingers with us thanks to Lee's tour playlist on Spotify. We started with listening to Heroes and we wended up meeting a tour hero of an alternative kind.

Really enjoyed this; Dan was a superb guide who led us across the city with music (by Bowie, of course, but also influences, collaborators, and others) playing from his portable speakers. We learnt about why Bowie came to Berlin, his cultural inspirations including Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, and how “Heroes” sounds like it does… and loads more. We learnt things about the city that would be interesting to any one, Bowie fan or not. One of the best things, for us at least, was that Dan mentioned in passing a 100-year-old cinema, the Babylon, which still plays silent movies with a live orchestra - which was how we ended up seeing Fritz Lang’s Metropolis that Saturday night at that lovely old cinema with a superb live orchestra. Thanks Dan!!
