Overview

Get the most out of your visit to Sachsenhausen, one of the first concentration camps in Germany, by touring with a guide. On this full-day tour from Berlin, you'll listen to a historian detail the influence of the Third Reich and the timeline of how this camp came to be. Travel via train from Berlin with your guide (ticket at own expense) which eliminates the need to rent a car.

What to Expect

Make your way to the Zoologischer Garten train station or Hackescher Markt train station to meet your guide. You will need a Berlin Transport ABC Zone ticket. Relax and enjoy the scenery on the ride to Oranienburg, which takes about 45 minutes.

Arrive at the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum, where you'll have pre-purchased entrance fees included with your tour. Follow your guide, who will fill you in on the history of the camp, where 200,000 people were imprisoned between the years of 1936 and 1945.

Visit the burial pits, gallows, gas chambers, and punishment cells located inside the prison. Hear stories of prisoner bravery as well as the atrocities that took place at the camp, which now serves as a national memorial to the prisoners who lived and died here.

At the conclusion of your tour, return to Berlin the way you came.

Very interesting and sad place.

Marie showed us around and although it was a large group of 16 it was easy to hear all the details. She took us to the most significant parts as the site is too big to cover all in one day. She was very knowledgeable...More

AWESOME guide!

It takes great skill to summarise such complex history, and deliver such an emotionally loaded part of history with passion and neutrality...Phil at Insider Tour did exactly that on a recent trip to the Sachsenhausen Camp. It was a sobering, sombre experience yet he guided...More

Well worth the money

It sounds strange to say 'I enjoyed a trip to a concentration camp' but I did, it was very informative, mainly due to the guide, Campbell, an Aussie guy who's studied history and who was extremely well informed. He was very articulate and addressed the...More

This is a 5-h trip to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp (north of Berlin). I always wanted to visit it. However, having Mike (our guide) along with us made this trip even better. He gave us details on the history of the camp. He was definitely one...More

Check out the Insider Tours website. They are the tour group that meets people in front of McDonalds up by the zoo. They don't require advanced bookings, and you can just pay cash. However, the Sachsenhausen tour does not... More
