Highlights
  • Explore the historical city of Potsdam from Berlin in just one day
  • Benefit from the insight of your guide as you explore the Dutch Quarter and more
  • Stop by the Sanssouci Palace, Babelsberg Castle, and the Cecilienhof Palace
  • Opt to stay in Potsdam and explore independently or return with your guide
What to expect
  • Start your trip outside Berlin’s Hackescher Markt Station. Join up with your guide and take a 15-mile (24km) train journey outside the city center to Potsdam, once the home to German royalty. Stop by the palace of Cecilienhof, the site of the famous 1945 conference between the United States, Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom, where Truman, Churchill, and Stalin would seal Germany and Europe’s fate for the 20th Century, laying the groundwork for the Cold War. Continue to King Frederick William II’s Marble Palace, with its recreated Greek temple and scenic lakeside setting. From there, make your way through the 18th-century Nauener Gate and into Potsdam’s quaint Dutch quarter. Break for lunch at your choice of several cafes in Potsdam’s town center. Stop off for a German beer or try some traditional coffee and cake. Once you’ve refueled, make your way through Potsdam’s own Brandenburg Gate (built before Berlin’s) to a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Frederick the Great’s Sanssouci Palace and Gardens. Your walking tour finishes next to the Sanssouci Palace. Your guide then takes you on public transportation back to Berlin or, if you prefer, you can stay in Potsdam on your own to enjoy more of the gardens, visit the inside of one of the palaces, or even stay for dinner.

If your interested in History this tour is for you

Brilliant tour by Steve from Berlin walks! I’ve always wanted to learn more about Potsdam as it’s such a historically concentrated place.
Steve was incredibly knowledgeable to the point that he managed to give the historical figures a real human character and persona, give another dimension to them and made the storytelling come to life. He was also very funny, which made the day much brighter.
I do strongly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in the history of Germany. I must say I found the place very fascinating and incredibly beautiful.

Absolutely excellent tour! Xavier was our tour guide and his breadth of knowledge was extraordinary. He went in depth historically on several occasions, and really became animated when tour members asked questions; all of us enjoying, literally, an education. We would highly recommend this tour company and especially Xavier. Wonderful experience in every way.

An interesting tour
Dec 2019
I did a guided tour of Potsdam from Berlin with one of the city tour operators. I'm glad I did it that way as I got to see different areas of Potsdam which is much bigger than I thought actually. The guide did I bit too much talking about the palace and the king for my own liking but you certainly get your money's worth that way! What I would have liked it the chance to take a couple of photos of other places along the way (such as the 'bridge of spies', the Dutch quarter and the Russian houses and the old KGB prison.

Fantastic tour of Potsdam.
Oct 2019
The Discover Potsdam tour really was a fantastic experience and I would 100% recommend it. Our Tour Guide was Rob McCracken and he could not have been more knowledgeable or sensitive to our group needs. Rob is a history graduate and has immense depth of knowledge, I felt we only tapped the surface of the information he was able to provide. Rob navigated us to Potsdam via train & bus, saving us vast amounts of time researching the local transport routes. He took the trouble to find out about each member of the group and made sure everyone was present and okay at each stage. The actual tour when we arrived at Potsdam took in all the main sites and was extremely informative, enjoyable and fun, despite the rain at times!

There was a well timed morning break with a comfort stop and the opportunity to purchase a coffee, then after further sightseeing and a short bus trip we had lunch in a beautiful area of Potsdam. We enjoyed the food, tip: go in the restaurant the guide goes in, they know the best ones!

Certainly don't forget your camera/phone and comfortable trainers/walking shoes. Time well spent, you will enjoy this well timed tour of beautiful Potsdam. Thank you Rob for enhancing our trip to Berlin and making it so memorable.

In itself I found Potsdam lovely, but tour guide Seb B made the visit to the city even more enjoyable with his humor as he walked us through the region's history.
