Paul’s Private Tour in the Residence Munich

By Paul Riedel
About
Visit the Residence of Munich with local artists. The former seat of the royal family, Wittelsbach. For many centuries, this was the place of so much history from Bavaria. Once completely destroyed, we show you the reconstructed work. Understand the different courtyards and have an overview of the last generations in this object. I make more of your visit, showing you the most important spots from this 40,000 square meters construction. The history you will enjoy, and the side-stories that make your visit the proper complement for your visit to Munich. Over 136 rooms present the heritage of this state and let you understand those who lived here. The love affairs, the incomparable creativity of King Ludwig II, or the relationship with Napoleon are some of the chapters you'll hear with us. We offer a short tour of two hours inside the Residence or the extended version with a complementary visit outside the residence and the Cuvellier Theater. Larger groups can be organized.

This tour is one of our highlights of many in the beautiful city of Munich. The day started gray kool and light drizzle. First of all prior to meeting Paul, my wife and I had a great breakfast Rosi on Rosenheimer Str. near our hotel. We headed out to meet Paul at Karlstor where the party was just beginning. With time to spare we stopped at Augustiner Stammhaus for some drinks and unbeknown to us live music. People dancing eating and drink Munich authentic food and my favorite beer. Finally we met Paul, who was happy to start the tour by explaining the Karlstor area and historical significance. We began to walk the old town area and Paul explained the architectural history and influence of buildings. The tour continued through the city which is spectacular and made several stops at the beautiful churches along the area. Paul’s incredible knowledge of history and facts is what made the tour spectacular. Me being a history buff and Paul’s brilliant perspective really tied everything I had learned about Munich. Paul also showed us some great cafe’s which we even stopped to have my favorite double espresso and my wife’s favorite cafe Americano. Great cafe. At the excitement of my wife Paul also showed us some great shopping locations which ended our tour. Paul we love to thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we are so humble that you could spend a Sunday afternoon showing us the the beautiful city of Munich. We highly recommend Paul’s tour.

Beer like you've never tasted before!
This was such a fun tour. First he greeted us with a gingerbread cookie that smelled phenomenal. Next, we went to the Beer Museum, not at all what I was anticipating. Paul taught us different ways to drink beer. I am not a drinker, but when he put the apple juice into the beer, it tasted completely different. Then he added water and it changed it again. The last thing was an espresso type addition. That I didn't care for at all, but I do not drink coffee. But I will try the apple juice with beer again! Following that he took us to another place, I think it's name was Atles Hackerhaus, where we enjoyed food (sausages, sauerkraut, or potato salad and apple streudel), and very interesting conversation. He paired us with other Americans and we had a lot in common with them. Paul is a great host and I highly recommend his tours! He also took us on a tour of the Nymphenburg Palace, which I reviewed separately. Awesome guide!!

      Great tour
Great tour for seeing Markets for the first time. Our guide John was awesome and very accommodating when we arrive late due to our flight delay getting to Munich.

      Chariots await you!
This was a highlight. So much to see and absorb in the castle I loved seeing the chariots and the porcelain display. We got a bonus because the garden area was open so we got to see the fountain and Magdalena house (church). Very informative and worth your time. Paul is a wealth of knowledge! He went above and beyond for us. He even showed us how to use public transportation. He suggested a different tour for us later in the day. He took us to a place to exchange our dollars for euros at s much cheaper rate. He makes you want to soak up every second one visits in Munich! Very nicely done!

      Amazing Tour!!
Paul was lovely! He was so sweet, lots of knowledge, extremely entertaining, and over all an absolute delight! We learned a lot of history on his walking tour of Munich, and it was history that as an American we had not heard of before. We asked him to give us more details on WWII and he did just that. He gave perspective of the people, how times were for all living in Munich, and great information over all. I would highly suggest his tour. He has a world of knowledge on multiple subjects about the city!

      We had so much fun!!
We had the best time! We did the tour with John who works with Paul. We had a tour with Paul earlier that day and had the best time ever. I want to brag on John though, and the tour we had with him. He was so incredibly hospitable, entertaining, filled with knowledge, great English, and over all a great guy. We sampled beer at a museum and learned a lot about the breweries, then went on to sample a great amount of food at another location. You should really do this tour and another tour that Paul has. My family (which there was seven of us) all agreed that if we had not done a tour with Paul and John then we would have missed a lot of history, architecture, and local culture. I highly suggest Paul and John for all your tours in Munich. You will not be disappointed!

      Fabulous and full of information
Spectacular tour. Not only interesting general history but lgbt inside knowledge that we wouldn’t get anywhere else. He brought us to historical sites and fun current places, like the Pink Christmas Market. Made the city come alive. I wish he had a tour in every city that we visit. Highly recommend

      Tour with paul
Paul was overbooked and met us at the beer tasting. John was an admirable replacement. The beer tasting was good. We were hoping for a basic beer review, but Paul was more technical talking about mixing beers and adding mixers to beers. Not something we were interested in. Based on the tour description, we were expecting a meal rather than a cold plate. The description didn’t align with actual tour.

      German Beer Culture
Paul is a lot of fun and definitely knowledgable about all things related to Munich and beer. We just wish we had gotten a little broader taste of the food of the city.

      TLDR
Purchased tickets to this tour after a last minute trip to Munich that aligned with Oktoberfest. We thought with the little time to plan that this would help us get into a tent and enjoy our short time. Our tour started with being told we were late, although we were the first ones of our group and there before the listed meeting time. Our guide was enjoyable but did not have anything on that notated she was our guide so we likely would have said something sooner if we had known it was her. After walking into Oktoberfest, we had been told we have a voucher for a beer but had better odds in selling it than using it. We walked around for 2 hours and got some history of the festival. The tour ended without stopping for a beer or even tips on where to go. We left the tour on a busy Saturday and got into a bier garden on our own. We were clearly not the most upset in our group on this outcome of our tour. If you liked Fyre festival, I recommend this tour.

Totally misleading and waste of money
Tour operator said that they knew before that it will be completely over crowded and that we will not be able to enter any beer tent or beer gardens. Yet they still let us book for the tour. It was just a walk about through the fair & grounds with some general tour guide comments. This tour @ 15h on the Saturday should not be allowed to be on Trip Advisor. We flew to Munich just for this, flights, hotels, etc - and then a complete failed event. I also contacted Paul for a refund and he refused.

      Fun and fantastic knowledge.
My boys and I did Paul’s food tour in Munich. Paul is a wonderful and fun soul to be around. He is knowledgeable and well versed in his history. He shared a great amount of Bavarian knowledge with us and it was not only around the food but everything. The food was amazing. It was not only good to eat but great to learn it’s history. I highly recommend it was all around a wonderful experience.
