We didn’t have a great start to our trip, having messed up and arrived a day late, but the guy on the desk was really kind, checked with the tourguide and let us join the tour.
Our tourguide was Josh and what an entertaining and informative tour he led. He walked us round in incredible heat, sensibly making sure that we were all able to stand/sit in the shade whilst he spoke and then giving us chance to take our photos. He was brilliant at relating things to our current ways, meaning that it was relevant and accessible to both myself (53yo woman) and my 14yo son. He explained clearly the facts of what happened, gave them context and insight into how things occurred. It was an exceptionally informative and fun afternoon and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone, especially if they could be certain that Josh was their guide. Great job. Thank you.

My wife and I took this tour, and we were not entirely sure what to expect. Usually you think of vacation as a more lighthearted experience, but, being that we were in Munich for the first time, we knew that we wanted to take some kind of tour like this one. Our tour guide Josh ended up knocking it out of the park, and really made this tour just as memorable as all of the others. He was incredibly informative, and he was very good at making all of us truly think about what really happened during those dark days of Nazi Party rule. While this tour might not be for everyone, we would strongly recommend that most everyone take this tour nonetheless. It is really a part of history that should never be forgotten (especially with our currently destabilized politics in the West).

I had an amazing experience with this walking tour. Our guide, Josh, was very knowledgeable and handled the heavy subject matter with great care. Though my partner and I have some knowledge on the topic already, our guide provided the perspective of a German citizen which was important to hear about. He also put things in a way that was simple and impactful. I would recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in WW2 history, I would’ve happily listened to Josh speak for 3 more hours!

We purchased this tour for a guided tour of all the historical sites remaining from the WWII era. It turned into a walking tour about our tour guide's opinion on Germany's involvement in the war. Josh (our tour guide) gave us every detail about how the anti-sematic movement was not originated in Germany and only a response to previous movements from everyone but the Hitler regime. As there is some truth to that, it does not excuse the atrocities committed by the Hitler Regime. Case in point, he spent 15 minutes explaining Henry Ford's involvement in the anti-sematic movement prior to the Hitler Regime's uprising. The way he approached this was disgusting and disrespectful to the millions that perished from the evil brought on by the Hitler Regime.
We would walk about 2 blocks and then stop for a 15–20-minute dissertation. We stopped at one point under some columns of a building (not sure of the significance) and spent 20 minutes listening to Josh tell us about how none of the leaders of the Hitler Regime were blonde hair and blue eyed. Josh had pictures in a book and showed them to us multiple times. (I get the point, I knew this already. I am in Munich and want to see the historical sites.)
Josh would not let you take any pictures or video while he was speaking. His reason was that he didn't want to be put up on some unflattering websites. If you were holding your phone he would stop and wait for you to put it up.
We ended up leaving the tour after about 2 hours.

Hi Steve, we are sorry to read you were left unsatified with the tour provided by our guide Josh. During this 2.5h tour various historical sites are visited that held significance during the Natzi's time in power. These include; Königzplatz, Carolinenplatz (Natzi headquaters) Odeonzplatz, The Hofbrauhause beer hall, the eternal flame memorial, beer hall putsch memorial... It is not possible to visit all of the historical sites remaining in the city on a 2.5h tour, both due to time and their separation from one another. This is a walking tour afterall and we must consider a route that is managable to be walked along. We feel what we offer is a comprehensice enough number of them to satisfy most cusotmers. The nature of the walking tour is to walk a little then stop in order to provide history and context to the locations visited. Most of our customers appreciate the detailed back ground and context, including personal insights and perspectives from our guides. As to the no photos of our guide, we respect our guides rights to request not be photographed on tour. Perhaps it could have been comunicated better that he did not want this. Of course this does not extend to not being able to take photos of the locations themselves. I'm sure if this was you intention and had it been comunicated to our guide he would be more than happy for photos to be taken that do not have him in. We are sorry to hear you decided to leave the tour early. Perhaps had you stayed until the end you would have heard our guide talk more about about the atrocities committed by the Hitler Regime and would have left more satisfied.

Josh did an amazing job showing us around and had an incredible depth of knowledge of the topic. His descriptions of the events were as if he was there. I went alone but made friends in no time. Josh kept the atmosphere very friendly with ice breakers and introductions so we could all achieve a frame of reference for each other for the serious topic we were to learn about. He did an excellent job at delivery of the information, bringing us back from some very somber moments with heartfelt positive stories.

Overall phenomenal experience I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about the development and upcoming of the Third Reich and so much more. Thank you Josh.

The tour with Josh provided a decent overview of Nazi Germany and did a good job centering their ideology of hate and the importance pf remembering the victims of Nazism. Josh did a good job providing context and helping us understand the experiences of both the victims and perpetrators.

However, if you are a history buff or already have a good understanding of Nazi Germany, the tour is less informative. I was hoping to learn more about the specific significance of Munich during the Nazi era and the sites around the city, but I often felt like the focus was on covering Nazi Germany as a whole, rather than Nazism in Munich. We did not spend much time talking about the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch or the White Rose Movement, for example. So if you are interested in that specifically, visiting museums would be better.

Overall though, I would recommend this tour if you want to get a general overview of the Nazi era in Germany.

Thanks for the review and recommendation of our Hitler and the Third Reich Munich Walking Tour. Our guides do their best to give both an over view of Nazi Germany as a whole along with specific Munich related topics. They try to cater for a mixed audience of guests with varied knowledge of the period, also given that the length of the tour is around 2.5hours there is only so much detail they are able to go into on each topic. We are glad to read your over all experience was positive though and appreciate you taking the time to leave a possitive review.

What a fantastic experience this was - a really detailed insight into the history of the third reich within the context of the city of Munich.
Our tour guide Josh was very enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable; he clearly knew his subject matter inside out and was able to discuss some really difficult topics in a respectful manner, all without trying to sugar coat any of the horrific details.

I feel like I learned loads about the fallacy of nazism while addressing many of the cliches and myths that still persevere well into the 21st century. He also drew lots of interesting parallels to totalitarian regimes in the modern day and, without giving too much away, how there was nothing special about the German nation in particular that gave rise to such a “successful” (if that is the right word) fascist movement.

Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the city whether or not they have a special interest in the subject or not. Not just a fantastic summary of the NSDAP but also of the city in general.

Our tour guide Josh was incredibly informative and engaging to a point where we hung on every word that he spoke. His use of photos brought us back to that time in history. They were very effectively used in story telling and gave us a better understanding of what exactly transpired during that time period. Even our 3 teenaged kids were engrossed and that alone says something about his ability to captivate his audience regardless of age. Thanks Josh! This walking tour was the highlight of our trip to Munich.

Josh is an amazing storyteller but this was less of a walking tour than I expected. There were only a few sites that we walked to and he explained the history behind the site. The majority of the tour was spent sitting or standing in the cold and/or rain while he showed us pictures. Given that it was a cold day, I felt this was too much standing around for a “walking tour”. Prior walking tours that I have been on also offer guests a bathroom and coffee break half way which I felt was particularly necessary on a cold day. Overall, Josh’s storytelling standpoint is interesting coming from a true German, but I do not recommend this particular tour when it’s cold.
