- 208ojasp0 contributionsLyon Panoramic City with Funicular Ride with Alex! This was an excellent tour with amazing photo opportunities. Our tour guide, Alex was fantastic; great energy, humourous and knowledgeable. He also saved us from pontential pick-pockets on a couple of occassions, so very thoughtful and concerned about our well being. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Alex!! Merci beaucoup Alex!!Written May 1, 2023
- W9180VHthomasr0 contributionsHigh Expectations Met and SurpassedIn a few pre-arrival emails, Alex had everything set up. He was quick to respond and patient with my vague description of what I was looking for. As a tour guide in Rome, returning to Lyon for the first time since I studied History there many years ago, my expectations were quite high. I opted for the 4-hour private Panoramic Tour, with the request that it be tailored to my interests and experience. That is precisely what Alex provided. He arrived punctually at the agreed meeting place and greeted we with a smile, an extended hand, and a bit of cheeky humor. He laid out the plan for the day, gave a general introduction to the development of the city over time, and a history of where we were standing (the impressive Place Bellecour) before leading me straight to what he touted as the best croissant in the city. And of course he was right. After that, he had me eating out of his hand. For the next 4 hours, Alex regaled me with histories, stories, anecdotes, perceptive observations, and clever commentary, reflecting the keen mind and the quick wit of a highly educated man with a life well lived in the city he loves and calls home. The balance of tone between the preparation of a consummate professional and the affability of a born performer was pitch perfect. I was informed, amused, and entertained. By the end of our time together, I had not only seen things and heard stories but met some of his colleagues, associates and friends. My half-day with Alex was time and money well spent, and it set me up perfectly for the rest of my stay in Lyon. No drawbacks, no exceptions, no other side of the coin: Alex with New Generation Guides is the man to go to in Lyon.Written February 8, 2023
- Loire_Valley_Travel0 contributionsGreat Experience in Lyon.Alex delivered a fantastic tour of Vieux-Lyon that was exactly what I had asked for. He was knowledgeable, networked, professional and funny. Everybody in my group of 4 liked him a lot and we saw things we never would have found without him. For me the two highlights were the Cathedral (sculpture, clock) and the silk shop and workshop. He also recommended a great restaurant for lunch afterwards.Written July 18, 2022
- Scenic493672609060 contributionsSimply PerfectIt is hard to find a local guide with the right amount of knowledge both historical & practical, who tailors your experience to precisely what you want to see & do-even adjusting during your tour, and who does it all with a grand sense of humor & fun…..BUT this is Alex! Our group of 4 couples completely enjoyed our Lyon City tour AND then a Food tour with him, and we wish we could go again now! He took us by funicular to Fourviere where he showed the panoramic views & explained the history, then down the hill at our pace through Roman ruins on a Roman road, then through many Traboules in Old Lyon pointing out sights & always explaining the history, culture, and lore of the sights. The next day we enjoyed fabulous local foods at Les Halles & shops in Old Lyon, a fascinating silk tour where they showed us the old process from wiggly worms to beautiful scarves. We then finished with a fancy chartreuse and local confectionary tasting to see if we could identify the flavors of the products…a fun education for us and our palates! We laughed so hard at what friends would taste. As both a guide and local professor for training guides, Alex has a true knowledge and love of Lyon & its food/culture/history and his tours will make you love it all too! So no worries about getting around at too fast or slow pace by a mechanical guide who shows you all the sights they love but not you, and no tasting adventurous organ meat foods, unless you want them! And no mysterious silence while planning your adventure far away—Communication is quick, helpful (esp with changing Covid restrictions) and fun. We cannot recommend him enough! It is all simply fun, tasty and wonderfully done! Relax and enjoy the times! You will come away loving the city and your guide!Written November 3, 2021

- Catriona070 contributionsOnline? No problem! The Conference I was planning to attend was entirely online, and the social programme was also converted into virtual visits over Zoom, which proved an excellent opportunity to get to know the city; at the end everybody was looking forward to being able to visit in person as soon as possible. Bravissimo Alex!Written September 4, 2021
- olgapJ422CH0 contributionsMagnifique! The tour was amazing, plenty of interesting information of different kind: historical, cultural, concerning city life and cuisine. Great views, very beautiful parts of Lyon. Done highly professionally .Written September 4, 2021
- DaveR3640 contributionsThe Go To Person for A Personal & Professional TourWe met Alex at our hotel and he took us through the old part of Lyon providing historical detail about the various sights. We then met back up after lunch were he took us on a tour of the murals, city hall, back streets and the Les Halles Paul Baucuse Market where we toured the market and tasted wine and food. Then enjoyed a great conversation with Alex. He is the person for your tour.Written November 21, 2019
- SoCalvoyageur0 contributionsUltimate Private Tour of LyonWhen searching for a guided tour, we look for someone who is extremely knowledgeable, has great connections with the locals and someone who loves what he/she does. Jean-Alexandre (or Alex) was the perfect match for our group of 4. We asked for a gastronomic walking tour that included key sites of the city. He delivered in spades! There isn't a fact or figure that Alex doesn't know. Every question was well received and thoroughly answered. We started our tour by taking the metro to the famous Paul Bocuse food market. What an extraordinary market it is! After a cheese and wine tasting (with the most fantastic bread!), we continued through the city (even took a city bus), tasting freshly made and heavenly sausages, touring Vieux Lyon (after experiencing the Lyon funicular), learning about Lyon's famous silk production and sampling straight-out-of-the-oven praline brioche from Pralus --a must! We had so much fun with Alex that we asked him to join us for dinner and to choose the location. Alex has an excellent sense of humor and his command of the English language is miraculous. Hard to believe he has never lived in an English-speaking country because his English is flawless with superb and natural fluency. He is a master tour guide, even teaching the art of being a guide at a local university. While Alex does all types of tours (including tours for Cruise companies docking in Lyon), this talented man should be viewed as a rare find and perfect for the traveler who is looking for a unique experience. Just tell him what you are looking for and he will make it happen.Written November 8, 2019

- 465billf0 contributionsInside Lyons Silk HistoryAlex is an excellent guide who brought to life Lyon’s 400 year history of silk production. He told us to an authentic early 1900s silk workshop with a wooden loom. We walked and climbed through the traboules, which provide hidden passage through buildings from street to street. We learned about how the architecture reflects workers, managers and owners. His passion and knowledge of Lyon come through at every turn. He is a true pro.Written June 21, 2019
