    An excellent afternoon across Paris
In a word: awesome. In a few more words: Thor knows Paris, but more importantly, he knows *how to show you* Paris. Thor showed us around the Luxembourg Gardens, parts of St-Germain, Montmartre and more! He couldn't have been friendlier or more informative. And the beer recommendations were great, too! I can't thank him enough for an excellent afternoon.

    Paris bike tour
Having just arrived in Paris Thor took us on a fantastic bike tour which really helped us to get our bearings and combined a fun ride with some historical knowledge. The tour took us along the Seine seeing Notre Dame, the Louvre, Hotel deVille and the Orsay museum. We cycled along the Champs- Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe ( stopping there for a photo.) We stopped again to view the Eiffel Tower and see the Trocadero and cycled past the Grand and petit Palais, Napoleon’s dome and the Saint Michel fountain. Thor obviously has a lot of experience and communicated brilliantly from our first contact and I’d therefore highly recommend him, my family and I loved it!

    Totally exceeded my expectations!
Due to a change in plans we ended up with just a little more than one full day to visit Paris. Disappointing, especially since it was our first visit. We were a group of four, including our parents, who are less mobile which made this last minute trip to such a big city even more daunting. For this reason I booked a 4 hour “Introduction tour”. Unfortunately, before we arrived, our parents had reached their limits and choose, the night before, not to go. Thor was surprised and concerned and immediately offered to come up with a new plan. I assured him it was ok and off we went. This was the start of what turned out to be one of best tours we have ever done. Thor was as humorous, considerate, and as helpful as everyone says. We ended up doing a full day tour, completely unexpected, but we enjoyed every minute of it. We zig zagged all over Paris on foot (by choice, of course) seeing a local farmer’s market, Luxembourg Gardens, Pantheon, the Louvre, Palais Garnier, Galeries Lafayette, and Moulin Rouge before finally making it to the Montmartre area for a sandwich and some craft beer. After an enjoyable lunch we wandered over to Sacre Coure and then headed back home passing the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Thor filled us in on some French culture, avoiding scam artists, and allowed me plenty of time to stop and take a bunch of photos. Thor also helped me in the bargaining process too, not only did I get a light up Eiffel tower for my daughter but I got a few key chains and a magnet thrown in without getting taken to the cleaners. Although it seemed at first that our visit to Paris might be a little disappointing it turned to be a fantastic day. As they say, when one door closes, another one opens. Thanks Thor for a fantastic day!

    Fabulous tour with Thor!
On July 8th we arrived in Paris at approx. 9:30am after an overnight flight from Dallas. We checked into the hotel and met Thor downstairs shortly after noon. Right off the bat we knew we had made a good decision. We started with a short walk to the train station and learned how to navigate the metro. With his help we felt confident and safe taking the train. From there we traveled all over the city using the train and with A LOT of walking. For six hours we explored just about all of the major attractions that we wanted to see, stopped for a bite to eat and ended with some pitchers of beer! Due to time constraints, we were not interested in going into to Louve but decided to check it out from the outside. Just an example of his willingness to personalize our tour. Within our day, we experienced areas of Paris we would have never explored on our own and became acclimated with the city as a whole. It was magical! As many others have said, it felt like you were exploring the city with an old friend. He was kind, patient, knowledgeable and a joy to be with. I highly recommend a tour with Thor to get your bearings and hit the areas that are important to you! He’s flexible and wants to make your tour just what you desire. Because of our packed tour day, it made the rest of our stay in Paris much more enjoyable and relaxing. Do not hesitate to book!

A beautiful day of biking in the countryside of Rambouillet
Thor was responsive to a day-before request. We wanted to bike in the countryside, and getting out of Paris on a Saturday seemed like an especially good idea for various reasons. The express train out to Rambouillet is under 40 minutes and completely changes the equation re what is a pleasant excursion from Paris without wasting too much on travel time and without having to bring bikes from Paris onto the train. It's a lovely town and Thor knows the buildings, gardens, and forest paths well, for optimal timing.

    Great start to our trip
Third taught us how to buy tickets and navigate the metro and bus. We walked all over the city based on our interests. He answered all our questions and recommended a number of restaurants. Book it!

    Thor was terrific!
I contacted Thor late on a Saturday night asking for a bike tour on Sunday. He not only accomodated us but picked us up from our hotel and drove us to Rambouilet where we picked up our bikes and took a 3 hour tour around the village environs. The tour was one of the highlights of our 10 days in France. Thank you, Thor!

An incredibly helpful and knowledgeable guide and friend!
I can't thank Thor enough for all he did for our large school group of 28! Thor was not only our tour guide, but he was also our friend and helper. We had some logistics issues, and Thor was always there for advice, in person or via text. He is so easy to reach, and his responses are detailed and on target. At the end of our stay, Thor even helped us to return rented vans and fill them with gas beforehand since we didn't have a credit card that would work at the unmanned pumps. I highly recommend contacting Adventure Tours France so that Thor can make your stay near Rambouillet or in Paris fun and worthwhile!

Friendly guide who knows his stuff and loves his town
This was a rather quick morning visit to Rambouillet, on my way to Chartres by train. Thor met me in front of the station, and drove me around - to the Chateau and its grounds, a trip into the forest, and a stroll through the town, showing me many things I never would have noticed on my own. While Rambouillet may never become known as a major tourist attraction, I hope to go back with my wife and spend most of a day there, largely because of Thor. By the way, Rambouillet makes a very feasible combination with Chartres as a daytrip, if you get an early start and study the rail schedules.

Lifetime experience !! Cycling through forests, countrysides and towns!
I would recommend everyone to experience this day tour in the forest of Rambouillet with Thor of Adventure Tours. We went to Rambouillet on a day drip in October 2015. Thor is an amazing guide and made us experience cycling through beautiful forests that looked more beautiful with the fall season. We visited a Farm where fresh goat cheese was made..and yes our lunch was by the lakeside on a very stylish and authentic wooden bench. We cycled about 30km in 4 hours. Excellent organisation by Thor. Cycling with mountain bikes was amazing !Looking forward to revisiting Rambouillet!!

Awesome tours with an awesome tour guide!
I coincidentally met Thor while searching for a bike store in Rambouillet. I was having some problems with my bike and he nicely offered to repaire them and brought me to all the stores I needed in order to buy extra supplies. He ended up giving me a lovely tour of Rambouillet ( Discover Tour), showing me the local sites as well as giving me very helpful tips about biking in the area. Thor is a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide, he easily adapts to your speed and capacities. I had a great experience, I definitely recommend a bike tour with Thor to anyone looking to get out, get active and enjoy all the wonderful things the region has to offer.

Escape from the big city life: cycling trough the woods
We had such a great day, we did the Explorer Tour together with Thor. We passed by a goat farm where we bought some delicious goat cheese and honey, which we ate afterwards on our bagettes during a picknick at the lake. Later we went on trough the woods, visited an old monastery, and continued to have a meal at another lake again (or it was the same like, but another part of it, I don't remeber :)) Thor was a great tour gide, we had a perfect day on the mountain bike! It was a heavy tour though, I think we did some 60km that day! But it was nice to have some exercise and burn some calories after enjoying all the culinary highlights Paris has to offer. :) I would definately recommend doing this tour, it was great experience!

    Great way to see Rambouillet!
It’s no secret that biking is the best way to get to know a place. You see the sights at the right pace, travel like a local, and you can easily stop to explore. This was the best way to see the French countryside and all those châteaux, forest and lakes around Rambouillet! We could have the perfect combo of style and substance, I would totally recommend Adventure Tours France with Thor to anyone who is looking for a combination of riding (with plenty of challenges), genuine French experience to remember and an incredible local knowledge make for a holiday to remember! We had a really well thought-out itinerary, challenging yet fun rides, and lots of great food when off the bike (and yet very close to Paris!) Thor, I'll be back for more!!

Not just a bike tour, best way to see something different that the Paris city sights
I have done a number of city bike tours around Europe and decided that in Paris, since I had done the tourist sights to death, that I wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle and see the forest, some cute villages and have a day in the fresh air! I stumbled across Adventure tours and I'm so glad I did, I ended up having a tour to myself where Thor have me multiple options of routes to do, things I wanted to see, where and when I made stops and how long I went for. It was like nothing I had done before and exactly what I wanted/needed. The forest of Rambouillet is absolutely beautiful and has many different areas and villages aswell as stunning lakes where we stopped to eat our goats cheese and baguette that we had picked up along the way at a local goat farm! We also visited an amazing Abbey where I took 101 photos as it's was really something special. We rode for about 5 hours with some stops and i enjoyed so much being able to see all these beautiful parts of the country only 35 minutes out of Paris. If your looking for something different and a day or half day out of the city then I would definitely recommend this. It's for people who just want to go at an easy pace and see some sights and then also can be tailored for those wanting a mountain bike adventure. As I was on my own I got a bit of both which was perfect. Absolutely amazing value for the price and cannot be compared to any other tours!

A very worthwhile 2 hour orientation and tour with Thor, our guide. He showed us joy to navigate the metro and bus. And he met us at our hotel. We saw many wonderful sights including the Louvre, the Palais Royal, the Latin Quarter, Galleria Lafayette and the L'Opera. We covered off a lot in 2 hours, and it gave us the confidence to get around the city on our own. Thor's knowledge of the city and its history was extensive and very appreciated. Book this tour!! You will not be disappointed, and the timing is just the right amount of time without being exhausting.

Thor was brilliant - as it was our first time in Paris it as so great to have someone we could trust to show us the ropes. Thor purchased with us our weekly metro ticket and showed us how to refill in a week, then we caught a number of trains to get use to how the system worked and then it was riding the buses - how to read the train/bus timetables and maps. We have a great time with Thor and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone landing in Paris. Thank you so much Thor. Elizabeth and Shane

This was our first trip to Paris and we decided we needed help in navigating a new country where we do not speak the language. It was overwhelming trying to figure out the metro system, our biggest hurdle. Thor picked us up at our hotel this morning and soon had us on our way to figuring out how to use the metro system for places we wanted to go. We ended up taking a major tour of some of the best places to see in Paris and all along the way Thor gave us historical information on what we were seeing. It made the experience that much more fun and exciting. He has so much knowledge to pass on to those coming to Paris for the first time. One of his most important messages was to be aware of your surroundings at all times. I will continue to heed these words. We really enjoyed our day and would recommend this tour for everyone.

Hi Diane & Steve, your review is like a fine wine that only gets better with age. Before I space it... Happy Anniversary! So a quick memory jog, the stroll along the Bastille canal with the locks in motion brought us down to the Seine, then the Islands and bridges, Notre Dame, Fountain Saint-Michel to Versailles, Pont Neuf cruise boats, the Opéra, the Galeries Lafayette, Le Printemps, Secret Terraces, oh and lunch on a terrace too for the win a Saucisse de Toulouse, a bus ride, the Montmartre Cemetery, the Funicular, the Sacred Heart Basilica, impressionist lessons by Steve! And rue Lepic and more metro rides. Plus beautiful weather. Enjoy the Versailles fountains tomorrow. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions during your stay. Cheers, Thor

AWESOME TOUR! totally recommended.
This experience will teach you important things when staying and touring in Paris. Is a private tour, Thor pick up you in the hotel. He is extremely knowledgeable, from Boston to 30 years living in Paris. He know a lot of information and culture immersion- dos and don’t. Thor is very professional, answer every doubt, supports to have the best itinerary. He’s amazing person! We went to Many landmarks and learn how to use metro/bus system. Thanks Thor for everything! You are the best!

M&A, that's a wonderful review, such kind words from beautiful people, merci beaucoup! I like the reminder that people do indeed appreciate the "live like a local" etiquette we practice. And having the Tap&Go Navigo passes immersed ourselves in the Métro like we were locals..) Plus another successful tour without pressure, you two must be the most in love with being in Paris clients that I have had. Did you take a photo of everything? Fun day, come back, cheers, Thor

A walk through some of the neighborhoods, while getting a little local knowledge from craft beer to pick pockets etc. The explanation of how to use mass transit was great, it has been years since I have been on a train or bus. Thor is a nice person you don't mind spending time with.

Hey hey Wisconsin, merci beaucoup for your friendly midwestern review. I suppose the most impressionable stroll was on falafel alley, Rue des Rosiers, wow wow to the crowds. Rue de Rivoli, the river, the islands, the Louvre, Opéra, the grand magazines, a pause with a view, and of course the Metro. You must be in Antibes on the Riviera by now. Enjoy the rest of your holiday! Thor

My 18yo daughter and I spent the day with Thor and it was incredible! He tailored the tour to exactly what we wanted to see, and explained things to us along the way that we would not have known otherwise. He took more time with us than we booked to be sure we saw everything we wanted to. So worth it!

We had an AMAZING time with Thor! This was our first time in Paris and not only did he take us on a tour, but was extremely helpful telling us the in and outs of Paris. He taught us how to catch the bus and metro. We were able to navigate without him to Versailles which we would’ve gotten lost if he didn’t show us the way. Thor is very nice and helpful. Highly recommend this for everyone if you have never been to Paris!

Hi Azsa, thanks for a superb recommendation. We got lucky with the weather and managed to stroll, metro, bus through half of Paris. We had time for the Galeries Lafayette holiday windows, Avenue of the Opéra, Louvre pyramids, Montmartre views, Sacred Heart Basilica, Place du Tertre artists, of and let's not forget that bakery shop on Rue des Martyrs..) Merci!

My husband, 13-year-old son, and I spent a fantastic day with Thor in & around Rambouillet last week, and highly recommend him and his company. Contact with him through his website was extremely easy. He’s fluent in both French and English (we speak NO French, so this was important to us). He was able to give us very detailed instructions to get from our hotel to our meeting point using which ever route we chose (bus, metro, train) – and it was fast and easy.

We chose to meet him in front of the Chateau in Rambouillet. We arrived at the train station and walked through the town (fairly easy, just take a look on Google map). Our arrival day coincided with the town’s market day, so we bought some fruit to take along on our bike ride. We had coffee at a cafe while we waited for him right by the Chateau gate (both the fruit and the coffee were fun purchases, what with the language barrier!)

Thor arrived right on time, and took us in his vehicle to where he stores the bikes (he has a lot of them, there’s sure to be one to fit each person). He took the time to make sure we were comfortable with our bikes, offered us helmets, and made sure we had a backpack to carry what we needed (he had bought a couple of baguettes in town to supplement our fruit). He asked a bit about what we were expecting to do that day, and we were off! The weather was beautiful (we got lucky) and we rode just over 30 miles – but that was our choice, he offered so many neat things to see that we didn’t want to miss any of them! He will tailor the route to your needs and fitness level, he communicates via email to get an idea of what you’re interested in. We biked past the Chateau and their gardens & waterways, through many parts of the Rambouillet forest, through several small villages, stopped at an Abby, a goat farm (bought cheese for our lunch) and went down into a valley with an old mill and a waterway, where we had lunch.

Most of our trip was on paths through the forest, a little bit was in towns on barely travelled roads, and just a little of it was on more highly-travelled roads that had bike lanes. For a short time we were even off-roading it where we had to pick up our bikes and carry them around big rocks (I got a little help here!)

Thor is very knowledgeable about the area and the history – he took us to an area way back in the forest where there was a huge stone picnic table, where Louis XIV would have picnics back in the 1700’s – very cool, and so far off the beaten track, not something you normally get to see as a tourist! Toward the end of our day we stopped by a lake with a beach for an ice cream/beer/wine break.

The only thing we could find to complain about (and it is SO minor) was that our bottoms hurt after 30 miles on a bike seat – the bikes themselves are nicer than the one I have at home, but I suggested to Thor that he upgrade the seats. He has already emailed me and told me he took my suggestion and purchased gel seats. It’s nice to know that my input was valued by the business owner. He also took the time to make sure we got back to the station in time to make the last “fast” train back to Paris, and gave us several restaurant suggestions when we told him we were struggling to find a good place to eat. Excellent service!

If you have any questions about Adventure Tours France I would be happy to answer them, just send me a message.

We booked a walking tour of Montemartre with Thor for our first full day in Paris, and I’m so glad I did! This is our first time in the city as a family, so we really appreciated starting our tour by him coming to our hotel and teaching us about riding the metro as we made our way to the neat art district in Paris. Along the way he pointed out noted sights like the famous Moulin Rouge and other architectural and historical sights along the way. Thor was generous and patient to take pictures when asked while still jerking us on track to see all the different sights yet deliver us to my requested final destination, which was the Opera Garnier. When in a new city, I think hiring a private guide is an excellent idea and our time with Thor was worth every penny. I highly recommend Adventure Tours France with Thor, he is so fun, personable and knowledgeable. You will be really glad you booked him! One additional note: prior to arrival his communication via email was superior and he shared some really good tips and advice with me. These details were appreciated so much as it made me feel more confident prior to our arrival in France.

You will not find a better opportunity to see the French countryside on bike accompanied by a knowledge, accommodating and engaging guide and resident. In the past, we had done a group ride in central Paris and while it was fun, this year we wanted to do some biking away from the city. I first learned about Adventure Tours France on TripAdvisor, and after checking out his website I emailed Thor for more information. He was very helpful throughout the planning process, not only with booking our tour but also with explaining train connections from Paris to Rambouillet. For that matter, Thor answered more questions about non-bike tour aspects of our pending trip than I can even recall.

Just before we were to arrive in Paris, heavy rains had inundated this region of France. Thor continued to keep me updated on weather-related issues that could alter our bike tour. When it became clear that inclement weather would prevent our tour from happening in early June as planned, Thor graciously accommodated us by rescheduling our tour for later in the month. This was just one of many acts of kindness by Thor that we received before, during and after our tour. As he famously says, A+!!!

On the day of the tour, we arrived in Rambouillet just 34 minutes after leaving the train station in Paris. Thor greeted us outside the train station with a big smile and a bounce in his step. I told him right away that he was the best friend I had who I had never met!! Within minutes of meeting him, he became a friend for life.

On our way to the bike shop, Thor provided a quick preview tour of his town and its history (having already known we love to learn about the architecture and history of European villages). We also picked up fresh baguettes for picnics on our ride.

After a quick transition at the bike shop, we were on our bikes and on our way to a full day private tour with Thor. Other reviewers have mentioned many of the sites that we also saw during our ride.

Does it get any better than this description of what we did and saw--six quaint villages, medieval chateaus, ancient churches with amazing stained glass, palace gardens, the aqueduct system built by King Louis XIV to deliver water from Chartres to the fountains at Versailles, a national forest, and beautifully picturesque countryside. Along the way, we picked up cheese and honey at the goat farm, and enjoyed 2 picnics--one lakeside and the other on a high bluff overlooking the village of Montfort-l'Amaury.

We biked 30 miles, took dozens of pictures and enjoyed fun conversation with Thor all day. Some pictures from our day are included with this review.

We will tour by bike with Thor on future visits to France. Just like this time, it will be a highlight of our trip!

After reading this review, go back on the Adventure Tours France website and book your tour with Thor. It will be the experience of a lifetime and one you will cherish long after your biking days are done!!
