About
Start off by exploring the magical streets which wind their way up Montmartre to Sacré Coeur. This is where Van Gogh found his calling. Where Renoir emerged as leader of the Impressionists. And where Picasso became a great master. Locals say the hill is enchanted. Explore the charming, historical hill top. And discover the Sacré Coeur basilica, artists' square, Moulin Rouge, and the cabaret of the assassins. After your small group tour, enjoy skip-the-line access to the Musée d'Orsay, the world's largest collection of impressionist art. Or save your ticket for the day of your choice. As you explore the museum, you recognize the streets and shops of Montmartre in every gallery. To fully appreciate the Musée d'Orsay, you need to know the hill of Montmartre. You will see Montmartre in the paintings of the Orsay. This 90 minute walking tour is a must for any art lover.

Would highly recommend the tour and guide Sophie!
Sophie was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and it’s history. Fun to talk to and learn from. There were plenty of brakes on the climb to Sacre Coeur so we never felt too tired to keep going. So many hidden gems on this tour and would highly recommend!

This was a great way to tour Montmartre before going to Mused D’Orsay. Jean was a great guide. Friendly and knowledgeable. The walk was about an hour and half but didn’t feel long. Seeing the living quarters, workshops, and learning the life stories of the master painters made their paintings more appreciated. Musee d’Orsay has magnificent collections and was not too crowded. Loved it!

The best tour ever with Francois!!!!!!!!!
Aug 2019
We are a Greek family of five and … not very fond of art or history. You will understand why I am saying this at the end of this review. This summer (2019) we decided to travel through Europe and see as many cities as possible within 11 days. One of our stops was Paris and we only had one day to spend there. Since we had visited the Eiffel tower 20 years back, we decided not to do it again, but instead to visit only the Montmartre for which we had heard so many nice things about. I did some web search and any guided tour I found was way too expensive, considering we were five persons. As I was looking through the web I saw the “Discover Walks”, read the wonderful reviews so we decided to go with it. To be absolutely honest, we expected a quite boring walk and tour in general, before we met François, our wonderful, extremely knowledgeable, funny and pleasant guide!! He spoke about the history of Paris and Montmartre in the very old days, the Left and Right Bank of Paris, poor and rich, he spoke about the artists of the era providing as many details as time allowed him, about the French revolution and how this affected history and events and so many other topics. He even told us where to eat and drink, the “tourist traps” we should avoid, the authentic cafes and restaurants we could visit to enjoy the best of Montmartre.

As we were walking through Montmartre, we could see many other guided tourist groups (not with “Discover Walks”) but none of those guides seemed to be as passionate and excited as François was!

I will say only two things and let you decide on your own. After the 2 plus hours walk, (it was supposed to be an hour and a half, but François did not mind answering questions and kept discussing with anyone in the group that felt like it), I googled almost all topics he had talked about (artists of the era, Saint Dennis, Montmartre rebellions, Sacré-Cœur, Dalida, etc., etc.) because he had managed to raise my interest (remember I am not an art or history fun) about everything he talked about. The last thing I need to mention is that after 11 days of traveling Europe and almost a city per day, the experience we had with François was one the most remembered ones! If we ever visit Paris again, we would definitely look for François to guide us again. Thank you Discover Walks and most of all, Thank you, François! You are one of a kind!!

Disappointing Walking Tour
May 2019 • Friends
I've gone on multiple walking tours in Europe over the past few months. This was by far the worst. There wasn't much content, especially considering the length. The tour wasn't humorous, witty, or interesting. I wanted to leave the tour early but felt guilty after the guide told us that he has to pay the tour company $5 per person on the tour. This company seems like a scam, this was the first I'd heard of a "minimum charge" on a walking tour!

Dear Guest, Thank you for posting with TripAdvisor. Are you sure you took this tour? Our Montmartre and Orsay tour costs €45 - the guide doesn't pay anything, the guide gets paid, right? Very best,

Excellent way to see Montmartre with an informative guide
Feb 2019 • Couples
I arranged this in our first visit to Montmartre. We weren't disappointed. Fab guide named Stan who took us on a really educational walk around Montmartre. We learned such a lot and showed us the good restaurants to eat in etc. Met some lovely people. Fab way to get to know the area and helped us to decide on where to go for the remainder of our stay

Landmarks and Montmartre
We did two tours with this group as we enjoyed the first one with a passionate Art historian who gave us great insights into the Opera Garnier, Place Vendôme and Concorde. The second tour we did of Motmartre gave good restaurant tips for France generally as well as lots of historical insight. May was fabulous and even included an entertaining donkey story.
Will book individualised tours next time with this group!
Also if you do the Free Walks please allow an appropriate tip for the guide. (For Aussies who don’t understand tipping I would suggest 10 Euro an hour).
