About
Exploring Pere Lachaise Cemetery, the largest cemetery in Paris, without a guide risks missing some famous graves and background on those buried here. This small-group tour ensures you get the most from this vast cemetery by covering the must-sees and some hidden gems. View the tombs of Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, and other figures; use secret shortcuts to see more than you might otherwise; and hear the often-tragic stories of the dead.

What to expect
Greet your guide outside the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, and set off to explore this 110-acre (44-hectare) burial ground, Paris’ most celebrated, and home to about 70,000 ornate tombs. Your route follows a largely downhill walk through the cemetery, and you take useful shortcuts to cover the most interesting spots in less time. As it’s a small-group tour, your guide may be able to customize the route to accommodate individual requests. As you explore the tree-lined avenues, hear tales of the cemetery’s history and the illustrious and often tragic figures buried here. See graves such as those of Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Frédéric Chopin, and Jim Morrison; and view the tombs of historical figures such as the medieval lovers Heloise and Abelard, plus Moliere, Gertrude Stein, and many more. Your tour finishes at Porte du Repos, near local metro stops and a taxi stand.

I'm glad we took this highly informative & fun group tour of the Pere Lachaise cemetery with a guide (Roberto). I had a hard time finding a group tour of the cemetery. Most of the tour companies did not offer one or had discontinued it. I was informed by a tour agency and hotel to go "on my own." However, I was lucky to have found this tour online and am happy I did. I would have never been able to find the graves own my own as the cemetery is big and quite a maze!

I am thankful for Roberto and his assistance. Because of him, I was able to see & pay tribute to the some of the graves & its inhabitants (i.e., Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Chopin, Jim Morrison). The 2-hour, guided tour went by fast but was enough time to see what I needed.

It was great listening to some of stories of the people buried there and history of Pere Lachaise. The cemetery appears to be around the outskirts of Paris, and we took a cab to get there (you can also take the metro).

Highly recommend this informative tour!!! Allows you to see & explore another side of Paris and its history. Thank you, Roberto, for the wonderful tour!

This is an historical treasure. You will find the graves of Chopin, Napoleone's sister, Bugatti, Jim Morrison and other greats.
You can puck up a map at the entrance as the cemetary is huge!!!
Wear comfortable walking shoes as the ground is very uneven and there are lots of stairs.
It is a peaceful, quiet and slow paced excursion.

Dear Agata Thank you for your interest but you are on the wrong account. Our account "Thierry Le Roi & les NécroRomantiques" isn't an account dedicated to the Père Lachaise Cemetery. It is only dedicaded to our ouwn activity : visiting the Père Lachaise Cemetery with our guides. So you could not attend one of our visites. If you had attended one of our visits, you would have learned that Napoleon's sister are not buried at the Père Lachaise : Elisa Bonaparte (1777-1820) is buried in the San Petronio Basilica in Bologna - Italy Pauline Bonaparte (1780-1825) is buried in Sainte-Marie-Majeure Basilica in Roma - Italy Caroline Bonaparte (1782-1839) is buried in the Ognissanti's Church in Florence- Italy Regarding Bugatti Ettore (1881-1947) and Rembrant (1884-1916) they are buried in the Dorlisheim cemetery, Eastern France ! Best regards

This tour was a wonderful two hours spent in an open-air museum under the excellent guidance of English speaking tour guide Alberto. Who knew a walk through a cemetery could be fun? Alberto provides interesting stories and tidbits about the famous and not so famous who are buried here. The cemetery is massive so it is helpful to have someone show you the way and share short cuts we never would have found on our own. This visit was a highlight of our Paris trip. It's a lovely way to spend an afternoon in a beautiful setting.

Fantastic tour! Alberto, our guide, speaks excellent English. He is full of wonderful stories of many famous and not so famous persons buried at Pere Lachaise. He gives a historical review of the cemetery and then takes the group on a magical walking tour. The grounds are beautiful, trees, ferns, flowers everywhere. Jim Morrison's grave and the story behind his burial there was explained. It is worth going. Please make sure you meet Alberto at the North entrance. Our cab driver dropped us off at the opposite end and it was a 20 minute uphill climb to reach our group!

Not generally being cemetery frequenteres, we didn't know what to expect when we registered for Thierry's tour of Cimetière du Père Lachaise but we spent a really wonderful afternoon. Thierry's knowledge is extensive and he knows how to impart it in an interesting, amusing and entertaining way. Absolutely to highly recommend.
If you're doing this in the winter make sure you're warmly dressed and allow three hours. I think the length of the tour may vary slightly but however long it is, Thierry makes every minute worthwhile.

Attention all English-speaking visitors: you must take Alberto's tour! His English is superlative and he possesses a wide knowledge of individual gravesites and how they fit into the history of Pere Lachaise Cemetary and Parisian culture as a whole. Two+ hours packed with fascinating tidbits and entertaining facts you'd NEVER read about in a book or pamphlet. Alberto also took me to a specific site I requested that was not part of our original tour--I doubt I could've found it on my own. A memorable experience, worth every penny!

Thierry Le Roi is INCREDIBLE !!! I have NEVER written a review online before, however after Thierry's guided tour of the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, I found myself running to the computer to find a way to recommend this exceptional tour guide and amazing guide! Skip the long lines at the Eiffel Tower - Thierry Le Roi's tour is a MUST DO while in Paris! Being a francophile living in Paris, I have gone on numerous walking tours, however I can say without a doubt that Thierry Le Roi's tour of Père-Lachaise was by far my favorite tour of all time! Where do I start? The people on my tour were of all ages and backgrounds: children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and senior citizens,... not to mention people of various nationalities,... and miraculously Thierry was able to engage everyone in his fabulous tour- if thats not talent I don't know what is! Thierry pointed out various graves of interest specifically to people of different nationalities, and he was able to engage the children in the tour (who had clearly been brought along because their parents wished to go on the tour) so well that they were asking him questions, and loving the tour! However, by no means is his tour geared towards children - Thierry's talent, and exceptional knowledge of not only the Père Lachaise Cemetery, but also cemeteries around the world, makes his tour enjoyable for ALL audiences, through his humor, but also through his friendly demeanor. His passion for cemeteries, and the history, stories, and art behind them, clearly shines through, as you can tell he loves giving tours, and takes great joy in sharing his incredible knowledge with others. I cannot emphasize how much I loved this tour, I recommend it without a doubt, and would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you Thierry, et à bientôt!

Heard great stories about the history of people residing in Pere Lachaise, and even of some of the folks who come to visit them! It’s a beautiful cemetery, the mausoleums are amazing in their architecture. Wonderful tour for learning some of the history of France.
