    The Paris Catacombs
Stop: 2 hours - Admission included
Why wait in a long line to see less of the Catacombs? Your guide, an English-speaking local expert, will lead your group straight past the lines and down into the 200-mile labyrinth of bone-lined galleries and former quarry tunnels. An inscription at the entrance reads “Arrête! C’est ici l’empire de la mort”, or “Stop! Here lies the empire of death”. In this eerie empire, you’ll encounter the remains of such dignitaries as Rabelais and Robespierre, among more than 6 million other former Parisians. While individual ticket holders must remain on the public routes, your guide will lead you off the well-traveled path. As well as other significant remains, like the hidden Gilbert’s Tomb, here you’ll find monuments to those who made their living in the empire of death. In the Port Mahon Gallery, you’ll see sculptures that an 18th-century quarry worker spent five years chiseling secretly from the tunnel walls, before being crushed in a cave-in. You’ll see the Quarryman’s Footbath and the Sepulchral Lamp, whose constant flame reassured the living that there was enough air in the tunnels. As you wind your way around the Catacombs, you’ll hear all about the history of this parallel city – and the many legends surrounding it. Once you’ve seen what lies just 65 feet below the city, your view of Paris will be forever changed.

Our guide Addie was the best guide we had in all of France for a week. Addie was so kind and energetic. She started the tour asking each person why they wanted to see the catacombs so she could make sure to tailor the tour to all of us. We had a young child around 5 on the tour that could have been distracting but Addie was so kind and answered his questions really made him feel part of the tour too. I wish we would have met Addie earlier in the trip, so we could book more tours. Highly recommend.

This was a really amazing tour, mostly due to our guide Michelle. I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed the catacombs as much without such a great tour guide. Michelle was so knowledgeable, and has a true gift for storytelling, as opposed to just sharing facts and information. She organized her stories so thoughtfully, staring at the creation of the tunnels and ending with the modern day cataphiles. Her enthusiasm for the history was so contagious and she was able to answer any questions!

Our guide Laura was incredible. Possibly the best tour guide I've encountered so far on my many day tours around Europe. Her English was exceptional and explained the history of the Catacombs extremely succinctly. She was clearly passionate and enthusiastic about what it was she was explaining which made the tour feel alive and charismatic. The tour itself was handled extremely well and was very organised. At no point will you ever feel lost or abandoned as the guide will include everyone and answer any questions at any time. Super interesting history lesson that you definitely won't forget. Definitely worth your money, I would highly recommend this to anyone wishing to visit the Catacombs.

The Catacombs were awesome, but the tour guide and company did not deliver. We were placed in a group of 19 to enter the Catacombs. Our guide gave us the audio guides (which are included in the actual ticket price of 29 Euro) yet we paid 92 Euro each. The guide tried once to share information with us, but was hushed by the staff of the Catacombs. After that attempt, she just walked us through the ossuary which we could have done on our own. The tour we booked said we would have access to restricted areas- we did not. My advice- go to the Catacombs of Paris website and reserve your tickets online (29 Euro per adult; 5 Euro for under 18) and an audio guide is included.

Guide never showed up. Left us and another family standing around on sidewalk. 😡CityWonders😡.
The people at the catacombs however were awesome and let us in to view individually.
CityWonders did answer phone pretty promptly, tried to find the guide (no answer) and did call me back to tell me that they were going to give refund.
Catacombs themselves are of course incredible!

Vick was a great tour guide. She had a deep knowledge of the catacombs and their history, answered everyone’s questions, and kept the group entertained with jokes. Vick even helped me and my wife find a neighborhood to get food after the tour. We highly recommend her and this particular tour.

I want to start out by saying I’m pretty easy going and have never written a bad review. The Catacombs are worth visiting, but don’t waste your time with a tour guide. Just trying to save others from wasting money.
We started out by arriving early and looking for our tour guide. She didn’t have a sign or lanyard, but I eventually figured out she was our tour guide once I went up and asked around. Unfortunately I can’t remember her name…but she seemed disorganized and had little knowledge of the Catacombs.
I paid $330 for skip the line and VIP access. We didn’t skip the line as the tour guide had to go in and speak with the people working at the catacombs. I’m not sure what the issue was, as she never communicated with my group.
We eventually went in and were given audio devices. The tour guide had no knowledge of the catacombs and didn’t say more than 3 sentences the entire tour. Questions were asked, but she did not know the answers and directed us to use the audio devices. I saw other tour guides speaking to their group throughout the tour.
We did not visit any “VIP” areas that other visitors did not have access to. Eventually I didn’t even see our tour guide and have no idea where she went off to?
Needless to say I could have booked directly with the catacombs for waaaay less and had the same experience.
I used City Wonders for the Louvre earlier in the day and it was a great experience. So it’s not the company, but I was so disappointed in our tour guide and wasting so much money.

This was an amazing experience. We had Michelle as our guide, and she was an absolute delight. Funny, witty, and full of energy, she taught us all about the history and need to know facts of the catacombes. Including the spooky urban legends. Brrr. We fully recommend taking this tour. Worth every penny.
Best,

This was great! We got access to some spots they don’t let the general public go. The guide was engaging and knowledgeable and very good at keeping up with the group, even noticed a couple people trying to sneak on to the tour. Would recommend!

Fascinating tour with a very well informed and enthusiastic guide. I’m not sure that a skip the line tour is needed here as the entries are timed and reserved anyway. Maybe they could then lower the cost on this one as it was the most expensive tour we did in Paris. However, it was also the most interesting and we enjoyed having a guide to tell us the history and stories, so there is that.
