- M9176RWdanieller0 contributionsGreat Tour with MelGreat tour, and especially loved our guide Mel. As described, you get driven to one chateau (the one we went to outside Saint Emilion was gorgeous), wine tasting there with 4 wines + meats/cheeses, and then a short tour of the town, which was very cute, and return trip back. A very nice way to spend a half day. Our group had a great time.Written September 1, 2024

Both tours were excellent and were made so by the caliber of our guide, Kaio. He was knowledgeable, amusing and communicated very well. The transportation was great, and it was indeed a small group of only 6 people which was ideal. The itinerary was great, and just enough time was spent at each site. He even made a quick detour so we could see the magnificent Chateau Margaux albeit only from the outside. All in all, very good tour and highly recommended.

This is a great way to see a bit of the region, taste the best oysters in France and visit two wine estates for wine tastings. Small, cozy group of 8.
Quick Summary:
Bordovino –
I was very impressed with the warm greeting at the office before the tour started. Clearly, the reception staff and guides enjoy their work and each other’s company, and they made everyone feel welcome. The tour was very well organized with optimum use of time to see and do everything you are expecting. Exceeded all of my expectations!!!
Guides:
– Mathilde: Mathilde took our group to Pilat Dune and Arcachon Bay. She’s a lovely person and an excellent guide. A very knowledgeable guide indeed. She’s so easy to talk to, kind and generous, and will make sure everyone is comfortable and having fun.
– Quentin: Quentin took our group to the Médoc region. Quentin is such a friendly guy with a great sense of humor and he really knows Médoc wine and the wine region of Bordeaux! He speaks slowly (in French and in English) and makes a point to spell out the names of regions and wine varieties to help with the learning experience.
– Vincent: I didn’t take a tour with Vincent but met him and his group at the Pilat Dune. Vincent and I had a nice conversation while descending the dune. What a friendly guy with a permanent smile on his face!
Tour:
This is a very well organized small group tour, which allows you to experience a lot of different things in one day. From the Pilat Dune (Atlantic Ocean and Landes Forest) to the Arcachon Bay and two wineries in the Médoc region.
NOTE: We had plenty of wine on this tour. I’m not sure I understand why some reviews complained that they hardly had any wine. On my tour we had a glass of white with oysters, a glass of red (or two) with lunch, the equivalent of at least a glass of wine during the first winery tasting, a glass of white during a picnic stop along the river Garonne, the equivalent of at least a glass of wine during the second winery tasting. That is minimum 5 glasses or a full bottle of wine per person! And in fact, I, and many of my fellow travellers actually ended up having the equivalent of around 7 or 8 glasses of wine during the day. Good thing someone else was driving!
For those interested in details of the Tour:
Pilat Dune is a must see. Mathilde, our guide, climbed the dune with us, donning a backpack full of pastries and coffee for us to enjoy at the top. Excellent view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Landes forest, and of course, the enormous sand dune. After descending the dune, someone in our group realized she had forgotten her reading glasses at the top of the dune. Before we knew it, Mathilde was sprinting up the stairs to retrieve them, and within a couple of minutes, was back at the bottom of the dune, reading glasses in hand. What a considerate person and attentive guide!
After a short drive we arrived at Gujan-Mestras on Arcachon Bay and were seated on the terrace of the oyster shack called La Baraque à Huîtres (The Oyster Shack). We were treated to a plate of six “Arcachon creuse” oysters, a selection of bread and butter and a glass of white or rosé wine. A large plate of shrimp was offered to those who didn’t want oysters. One person in the group didn’t want oysters or shrimp so she was given duck liver pâté. Everyone was very pleased with the offerings. The oysters and wine were so good most of us ordered more and a very generous family in our group ordered a large plate of sea snails to share with everyone.
We returned to the Bordovino office where I joined another group for our lunch and afternoon tour of the Médoc wine region. The lunch was nice and filling. Fresh baguette sandwich, a side of couscous salad and a delicious crumble dessert. We enjoyed a glass (actually 2 glasses each) of Saint Jacques de Siran (a red Bordeaux Supérieur from Médoc) with our lunch and after, an espresso before heading out on the Médoc tour.
Quentin was our guide for the Médoc tour. During our drive to the first wine estate, Quentin distributed maps to us and explained in detail the different wine regions in the greater Bordeaux area. This included soil types, climate differences, and kinds of wine produced. It was very informative and interesting (Quentin is very knowledgeable).
Our first stop was at the wine estate Château Siran. We took a lovely tour of the property and gardens. Then we did a fun olfactory test to try to identify 5 odors associated with wine followed by the wine tasting.
On our way to the second winery, we stopped along the Garonne River where Quentin treated us to a glass of white Bordeaux. We had a chance to stretch our legs and enjoy the banks of the river (and our wine) before heading out to the next winery.
The second wine estate we visited was Château la Tour Carnet. We took a tour of this amazing property, which includes a moat and a drawbridge. We tasted both whites and reds paired with bread, Comté cheese, saucisson (dried sausage), and dark chocolate. The wine at this winery was truly amazing!
We started the day at 8:30 and returned to Bordeaux around 19:15. This was an EXCELLENT full day tour allowing you to see and experience the region in a short time: Beaches, dunes, Altantic coast, Arcachon Bay, wine estates and vineyards, and the greater Bordeaux countryside.
Thank you Bordovino staff for a truly memorable experience. You’ve got a great group of friendly, hardworking staff and you offer very interesting, well organized tours.

Our guide & driver Quentin M was much more than a chauffeur. He went out of his way to make the tour pleasurable for us & the other 6 people in our mini bus. The sand dunes at Arcachon have to be seen to be believed but were enhanced when we all sat down at the top to enjoy the view with a glass of Bordeaux white wine. This was followed up after a 30 minute drive to taste oysters washed down with a tasty Rose - others had a dry white wine. As Medoc is at the other end of Bordeaux we had what he called a picnic lunch of tasty savouries & red wine back at the office before we set off to visit & be educated in what makes the local Medoc region wine great. A long tour but worth every minute spent. Simply a must do...

Crossing the ocean to UK, we decided to join a Trafalgar trip to France. It covered a circular trajectory from Paris to Lyon going South towards the Riviera and back North to Paris.
I’ll describe the trip but leave the best to the end.
All this in a highly comfortable, clean bus, where one simply does not feel the road. The driver, a most adorable man made sure we were all comfortable and had all we need. He kept watch over our stuff when we were off the bus, making it a very safe trip.
The venues were tremendous, we were left at close range near the sites, and everything was explained beforehand.
There was just enough freedom to let you snack, have coffee or just look around and maybe shop.
Unbelievable wisdom in getting us to some very overpopulated sites early in the morning, when no one is there, so we can easily take pictures and enjoy seeing those sites.
Trafalgar has a way of taking you to unexpected venues, not on the itinerary. They are most charming and definitely won the unanimous approval of everyone.
Some extra trips have to be paid beforehand while others can relax in the hotel.
Now the best to last:
Our guide was a travel director. A fine woman with unequalled wit, a beautiful sense of humour, knowledgeable to the ultimate degree about practically everything we asked about. Simple enough for the lay person, sophisticated enough for the intellectual.
The trip itself was excellent, but being guided by Sarah was a privilege!
I have travelled much, but never ever enjoyed a trip like this one.

The day started with the tour to the dune. Our excellent guide, Estelle, took us to and up on the dune. She even brought hot coffee and pastry as a snack on the dune! The view of the forest and ocean from the top was magnificent! Be prepared to climb 163 steps to the top! But it is well worth the effort!
We then went to an oyster farmer’s restaurant for a plate of oysters, bread and wine - they served shrimp to those who didn’t want the oysters. We learned about the process of culturing and harvesting the oysters. The drive out took about 1 1/4 hours, mostly through French farm country.
Our picnic lunch consisted of a fresh baguette with cheese, meat and vegetables; a salad of couscous; and a dessert called a clafoutis- fruit and cookies. And of course wine!
We then went with Mathilde to the Modoc wine region. She is an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. We visited two chateaus- both with very good wine and interesting tours. We had a little wine break - with local white wine - under the trees of one of the wineries. The trip took us through beautiful wine country, with magnificent vineyards and chateaus, and quaint French farming communities.
This is the second full day tour we have taken with this company - Bordovino Tours - they have been excellent! Their guide staff is knowledgeable and engaging and highly professional. It is a group of 17 young adults who really have created a wonderful opportunity for tourists to see a beautiful part of France.

As a solo traveler, I book this tour with Bordovino and didn't regret for a second. The whole day was so well organized, the guide (Vincent) was so positive, funny and had so many interesting things to tell about Bordeaux region. Starting at 8:30 he drove us to Dune det Pilat. Even though it was rainy weather, Vincent insured us that we will enjoy :) And indeed, we were almost the only tourists there and the Dunes were all for us! What a beautiful and unique place, must see! We also got served french pastries and coffee on the top of sand dunes.
Then we continued to oysters farm. There was an introduction from the local "farmer" followed by the most delicious oysters I ever tasted and white or rose wine to chose. When we were back to the office, I got served simple, but tasty french lunch with very good red wine ; ) Then the second part of the day started, we headed to Medoc for wine tasting. I won't tell you more details about it, just come over and experience Medoc wineries, awesome nature and wine! See pictures for more inspiration!
Great job, @Bordovino! Merci beaucoup!

Great trip! Our guide Isabel was perfect! She catered to all our needs and was a pleasure to spend the day with. The Dunes were so worth the climb and loved the wine she poured to celebrate at the top. The afternoon of wine tasting was just as fun visiting the medic region. Two great Chateaus’ highlighted the experience.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I booked the "Beaches and Vineyards" full day tour with Bordovino. I thought it would be a good way to see different parts of the region without having to worry about getting around ourselves. The tour was so much more than that! It is a long day (11+ hours), but the Bordovino team does a wonderful job of pacing and keeping things interesting without being exhausting. You can tell that the company and our guide had great relationships with the oyster farm and chateaus we visited, which made the experience feel more personal and special. We learned so much about Bordeaux history, wine, geography, and oysters in such a short period of time! Absolutely worth every penny. Also our guide, Quentin, in addition to being very knowledgeable was a blast to spend the day with!
