St.-Émilion and Médoc - French History and Wine Experience
We booked this trip a couple of days before going, once we saw the weather forecast and realized it would be our nicest day while visiting Bordeaux. We'd never before booked an excursion on Trip Advisor, so we did so just hoping it would pan out. It was truly superb! We arrived, and first toured the beautiful historic church, and took in the view from a high wall overlooking the town. We had two wine tastings in the morning, one in a lovey shop in the village of St.-Émilion. After the second tasting, at our first winery, we had a lunch provided by the tour, in the very pleasant yard of that winery. Our guide next drove us to the Médoc region to the west, where we visited, and tasted at, two other wineries. All the tours, and the wines, were very good, with tours of the facilities and explanations. It was a long day - 8:30am departure and return to Bordeaux at 6pm - with never a wasted, nor hurried, moment. I would very much recommend this tour. A shoutout to our traveling companions from Australia and the U.S./Africa, it was so enjoyable spending the day with you all.

      Great day in Bordeaux
Oscar was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide for us! The 3 vineyards we visited were full of history and St Emilion was exceptional.

      Wonderful Rainy Day
Unfortunately, we had a rainy day, but otherwise my wife and I had a great day. The driver was awesome, very knowledgeable about the region and wine, entertaining, and also excellent English. The 3 wineries were a pleasure to visit and the wines excellent, although the student host at the first one had poor English. The host at the second one, Vignobles Capdemourlin, had excellent communication skills and expertise in the wine business so we learned a lot. Our tour driver impressed us very much with her wine knowledge at the third winery, Chateau Bellevue. Finally, our time in St. Emilion village was made especially enjoyable with lunch at the Fromagerie La Moineaudiere, with its cave-like small dining area in the back, and particularly by its engaging and funny owner, a truly memorable time and experience.

      Great day with Laetitia!
On our last full day in Bordeaux, we spent the day touring three different wineries in Saint Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac. We traveled with a small group (we were eight) and a fantastic guide named Laetitia from Ophoros tours. I highly recommend her. She was the appropriate combination of very knowledgeable, down to earth and lots of fun. We also had an opportunity to have lunch in the medieval village of Saint Emilion and explore a little bit on our own. It was a very fun, beautiful, educational and delicious day!

      Wonderful day of Wine!
Great day visiting 3 different chateaus. Rodolphe, the guide, was very entertaining and extremely knowledgeable about wine and the St. Emillion region. Pick up was perfect and the wine was great. Definitely recommend this excursion for a wonderful day of wine education and tasting!

More time visiting places and less time in the minibus!!
A brilliant full day out not too far from Bordeaux, meaning you get to spend more time visiting places and less time in the minibus!! Our lovely friendly driver and guide Maude had excellent English and was extremely knowledgeable about the area and of course wine! There was more than ample time to explore the beautiful Saint Emilion and have a leisurely lunch, as well as view the surrounding countryside. The three chosen vinyards we visited were so different in character, age and thinking which made them fascinating to visit. We learned lots of new things too which has made us appreciate red & rose wine in a whole new way!

      Great experience!
Laetitia was a great tour guide! She was extremely knowledgeable, kind, funny, and kept up a steady stream of facts about wine, the appellations, terroirs, and even about Bordeaux and some French history! The two wineries we went to were great — both unique experiences where you could learn a lot. They weren’t the “Classification officielle des vins de Bordeaux de 1855,” but I suspect they’re better value and I would definitely recommend this tour.

      A good trip and tasting
A good trip, you get a short time in the village, the visit to the Chateau ( ours was Chateau Bellevue) was interesting and we got 4 excellent wines to taste. Our guide, Maud, was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English.

Probably the most disappointing wine tour I've had in the 5 countries and over 40 wineries we've visited. All due to a very poor guide who acted more like a driver than experienced upbeat wine guide. Ophorus was the tour operator and the day before we had the best experience in Saint Emillion with Karim and this one laid an egg. Even the wineries that were picked on the left bank touted their merlot when the region is know for Cabernet Sauvignon as the primary blending grape. A more experience upbeat guide would have saved this tour.

      Saint Emilion With Karim
A most delightful tour with Karim. He was a fountain of information and kept us engaged with stories, history and at the end,... a test on the way back from the wineries. He was a 11 out of 10. We've been to 5 counties tasting wine and this one was on top.

      Great day of wine tasting
Karim was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable and engaging. His quiet humor kept us laughing. We learned much about regional wines, the appellations and classes. The tour of St. Emilion was interesting with many delightful suggestions for lunch. We played a super fun wine game on the way home. Lots of fun, would highly recommend this tour.

Overall, a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. The guide was nice and fairly informative and the winery was pretty. However, you really do not get much for your money... basically you get a bus ride out to St. Emillion and back (with some information on the bus) and a ~30 minute walking tour of the city. You also taste a few wines at the winery and get a brief tour, but that's not worth much--I'd assume the winery would do these things for free anyways, since they're trying to sell their wine. No specific complaints, but it leaves you wondering what you were really paying for.

To say we were disappointed with this company would be an understatement.

We booked this a couple weeks before our trip and spent £130 which was quite a big treat for us in terms of our budget.

On the day of the tour, we left our hotel with plenty of time but three cabs cancelled on us due to traffic and we called the company to apologise and explain we would be late. By the time we finally got in a car, my boyfriend who is a fluent French speaker born near Paris, called again and said we’d be 20 mins late max, 10 mins past the cut off point they had stipulated. They said they wouldn’t wait and that our only other option would be to get another cab directly to Saint Emilion (which costs about €100). We begged them to try and wait and, if not, could we be flexible and join another tour either that day or the next day as we could move our plans around. Our cab driver even got on the phone to ask if she could meet them half way. They said no and that, while they had space on other tours, we would have to fully rebook / repay.

Unfortunately they did leave without us and refused to give us some more considerate options so we lost all our money. We called ViaTour as well who agreed it was a harsh way to treat us and tried to request a refund, to no avail.

It has been so disappointing and we feel fully taken advantage of. Especially as we did end up making it to Saint Emilion ourselves a couple days later and had a tour & tasting for €14 which we wish we’d just done instead. We also think we bumped into their tour at the Chateau and they were in fact 10 mins late so not sure why we were so harshly treated.

We tried our best to get there and explain and be flexible, so don’t consider ourselves to be a no show or cancellation. I would not recommend this experience based on how they treat their customers, especially based on how pricey it is.

Bonjour Alexandra H, First of all, let me inform you that we are sorry that things did not go as planned for you on that day. Please understand that our reservation team did the maximum to assist you and offer you a reasonable alternative. We always mention on the vouchers of all our tours that it is recommended to arrive at the meeting-point 10 minutes before departure time. Of course, there may be unforeseen events with taxis or public transports, but we can't make the whole group late. Our guides can always wait for the clients 10 minutes after the original departure time but it's difficult to do more. Imagine that the other clients were at the meeting-point 10 minutes before the departure time, they were all waiting for 20 minutes! The visits at the Châteaux were planned and the guide had to start the day for the group. My colleague from the reservation department suggested to join the group at the first Château, it was the option in order to not lose the entire day. You can understand that we are not able to cover the costs of the taxi in this kind of situation. I know that all our shared tours the following days were full, so yes the options were very restricted. However, you're right, nobody should told you that no matter what the availability of the tours is, you would have to pay for another one. It is not our usual way to proceed. We are pleased to know that you were able to discover a Château in Saint-Emilion and enjoy a wine tasting a couple of days after. As previously mentioned, or groups can be 10 minutes late, but not more. Indeed, the price is different if you drive by yourself to Saint-Emilion, our price includes the transport, the services of a guide and the reservation at the Châteaux. I understand your disappointment because the situation of that day impacted your vacations and it is never pleasant but your comment regarding Ophorus' services is very harsh too. We sincerely hope you will keep a nice souvenir of France despite the event. Best Carole from Ophorus team

A very well structured tour with our guide Emilie. She was very good at providing us the details of St Emilion region, winemaking, and its history. She was calm, patient, and very informative. She was very helpful and responded to our queries very well. We highly recommend Half day tour with Emilie. During our way back to Bordeaux we even played a small game of identifying different fragrances. Thank you for making our wine tour so memorable.

We went on a half day tour to Saint-Émilion in the morning. We had a pleasure of being accompanied by 6 Scotish ladies which were hella fun and Charles, the tour guide, was amazing. He briefly explained us the whole philosophy, winemaking and classification of St. Émilion so when we got to the winery, we already knew what was talked about. Spent a lovely time at the Chateau, followed by a winetasting in the city itself. After tasting four wines of the Chateau we visited, Charles took us between the streets of the city and explained the history, followed by some free time. He was very nice and well prepared in advance, being a really hot day he gave us some water. He was a very careful driver to! :D Overall a very pleasant experience, 10/10 woukd recommend.

Camille was the most excellent tour guide we could have wished for! The drive to the vineyard was spent listening to Camille telling us about Bordeaux and the history of the city, she shared her own experiences of growing up with a vineyard within her family and she was so knowledgeable on the wine and area. The vineyard visited was stunning and the guide there, who also facilitated the wine tasting, was charming and informative. Camille was so flexible with timings and what we did, giving the option of a tour guided by herself in Saint Emilion or free time, we chose the tour. The drive back was equally as engaging and the whole day was made so much fun. Thank you Camille! Highly recommend this tour to anyone.

We lucked out with this one. We are not big tour people at all, we typically go on our own, but to tour the wineries in Bordeaux, we had to book a tour. We booked with Ophorus and were lucky enough to get Colus as our guide. He was fun, light-hearted, informative, engaging and quickly made 8 strangers a group of acquaintances. Conversation came easy, he helped to create connections between all of us which in turn, made the entire experience that much better. We are so fortunate we were able to tour with him. Thanks again, Colus!

The highlight of the road trip was to see all the various chateaux and wineries along the route to Saint Emilion. Our trip included a visit to the winery, an explanation of the process and the caves where the barrels were stored. We later visited the village of St Emilion where we sampled six local wines in the Grand Cru Classé range.
Luigi was our main guide and driver. He is a sommelier and was very knowledgeable, helpful, informative and kind.
Our one suggestion to improve the wine tasting experience is to offer some tapas with it.
Some tours also include a meal but they cost around 150 euro per person, and are an expensive option.

Our guide Emily was great she was very knowledgeable , friendly, helpful and entertaining.
St Emilion is a very pretty town. The hours free time is about right as after 30 mins youve seen what you need and you probably arent going to want to go in that many of the 50 wine shops.
The 'chateau' visit was a bit underwhelming out of season and for me it would have been better to taste on the premises than to get back on the bus to go back into town again to the wine shop.
The tasting session in the shop was a bit poor and no doubt done there to encourage the purchase at the end. A small mouthfull (ok thats all you need to compare) of 4 wines squirted from the Coravin into the same glass wasnt great. The first of which was literally the dreggs of the first bottle which was full of sediment and lined the glass for the next taste. I felt I needed to flick away the dreggs on the floor to clear the glass but you cant do that in a shiny shop.
Would have nice to be offered a small glass of your favourite beyond the very small taste.
Perhaps would have been good to have a small bottle of water provided too.
The cost is higher than it should be for what you get in this tour because of the approx 45 mins each way journey, but then again they fill the 8 seater up so it should be covered.
It was ok but not great .. it would have scored lower but Emily was the highlight and made the difference.

The whole trip was fantastically organised, starting with a very straight forward pick up outside the tourist office in town. From then we were in the care of Karim, who absolutely was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, interesting, very attentive (there were four couples in the group and he had our names down right from the start). A very comfortable drive out of the city to st Emilion on which he gave us so much interesting information about the region, its history and how that related to wine making.
The chateau experience was great, with a tour of the underground storage areas and fermenting rooms, followed by tasting down in the town. The town itself is worth the trip alone. After, we were driven back to the drop off point in the city at the end of a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon
