    Lovely museum!
Great museum, informative and interesting! We were really impressed with the digital element of the museum. Staff were lovely and answered lots of questions! Also you can ask for chess pieces at reception to play on the tables outside!

Specular time at the medieval museum
We had a wonderful and very interesting time in the museum! Our FREE tour guide Laura was spectacular, and had oodles of enthusiam for all things archeology, not just the exhibits! She took our group through the museum with boundless energy, great insights, and was funny all the way along. I'd happily have Laura take me through every museum I go to! On a side note, the man at reception with a wonderful mustache (didnt catch his name) was also incredibly welcoming and is a credit to the museum. Fully recommend the whole experience!

Tour guide improved the museum experience
We planned on viewing the museum on our own but were offered a tour guide and were able to be guided through by Clare. She was able to offer much more information than the signs around the building and told us about much of the history of the Waterford area. The museum had a ton of artifacts and vestments were wonderful to see.

    Town centre museum
Given that the building looks big from the outside, I was surprised how small it was inside. There were staff in the ground floor area but we didn't come across anyone on the other floors. It was quite dark in the museum and possibly no good for anyone who is sight impaired. The gift shop is very basic and there weren't a huge amount of museum related souvenirs. This museum was on the Waterford Pass.

Great Place to learn about Waterford!
What a little gem of a museum! I went with my husband and brother and it was a great place to learn about the history of Waterford. We also got to talk to a couple of tour guides that explained the history of the city hall. They were friendly and knowlegable. This is a great place to take your kids. It is small but full of interesting exhibits and information.

    Golden Embroidery
Underrated museum. If nothing else, you have to go to see the golden embroidered vestments. We had plenty of time to see it all, a bit light on other artifacts.

    Highly enjoyable 2 hour visit
We spent about 2 hours here and there was so much to read and hear. The museum is without doubt one of the best around. It is laid out on three floors with a different theme on each floor. There is an abundance of information supported by artifacts and manuscripts as you follow the history of Waterford from its earliest days over 1000 years years ago through the medeival historical period, and its interaction with the kings and queens of England. This is a very professional historical museum with great thought given to the presentation of the historical material and supported by several engaging a/v films. I would absolutely recommend a visit here to anyone visiting Waterford for the first time.

This is a fascinating museum on the history of Waterford since 900AD
A great museum giving a great overview of how Waterford developed since 900AD. It is very well laid out with a stack of fascinating information and artefacts on display. We were totally enthralled. We bought the Freedom Pass that got us a 45 min guided tour of the Viking Quarter (brilliant guiding by Jamie), entrance to Medieval Museum, Bishop’s Palace and Irish Silver Museum all for €20 each - amazing value

A Visit to the Medieval Museum is a must when staying in Waterford
We visited the medieval museum while we were in Waterford for the weekend. The museum was fantastic, there was so much to see and so much we didn’t know about Waterford. From the underground cellars, to the City walls to Vikings and Kings, From Wine importation to flint formation and ancient tapestry, cloaks and clothing. It was a fantastic day, that we will remember. Thanks

So much to see, we need to go back!
We were given a tour of the Medieval Museum by the curator Donnchadh, whose knowledge knew no bounds. The highlight for me was the 15th Century wine vault which can be hired for private events but equally impressive was the very end of the tour where we got to see the Heavens' Embroidered Cloths, Waterford's cloth-of-gold 15th-century vestments - hard to believe the level of detail. I loved all the old paintings of Waterford and trying to imagine what life was like in those early settlement days. We also did the Wake Museum which my parents adored reminiscing on times gone by, the Bishop's Palace (where we had gorgeous scones) and the King of the Vikings tour entering a replica 13th century Viking house which was fascinating. Finally we did a walking tour of the Viking Triangle with the excellent Liam on possibly the coldest day of 2023 but his enthusiasm and insight into the history of Waterford kept us all engaged. There is so much to see in this visitor experience that once is simply not enough to visit.

Saw crystal, lots of black and white photos and history and a tour of the living quarters. Funny and informative stories about who married who and their heirs and who ended up with the recipe.

Visiting the Waterford triangle museums and walking through the square around the Cathedral was so peaceful. Have enjoyed wandering through the pedestrian streets is great. So much history in this area.
