The hike through the Gap of Dunloe was outstanding. My wife took the jaunting cart, which was also a great experience. The day was a little warm, so be prepared as there are no facilities/water on the hike. The boat ride back was also great, although we did need to get out and hike about ten minutes so the boat could get through the narrow/shallow water under a bridge. The drought has had a major effect on the lake's water level this fall, but should not be a problem at other times of the year. Deros Coach Tours in Killarney were great and very professional--even suggested switching days due to potential/forecasted rain so the hike would be dry. The area clearly needs the rain, but we were happy to make that switch and appreciated Deros' guidance.

If you have just one day to plan an excursion/day trip during your stay in Killarney, do this one!
We did the trip the opposite way around from advertised, which confused me momentarily, but I don't think it matters which way round it runs, you won't miss anything.
The boat trip was magical (even in the light rain at the start) and the jaunting cart from Lord Brandon's cottage, up through the Gap of Dunloe to Kate Kearney's cottage, was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
And to top it off the Deros' driver dropped me off right outside my hotel
Thank you Deros Tours for a wonderful day out
Don't be afraid to haggle the price a little with the Jaunting Cars

Enjoyed our day today, picked up by bus at our hotel and driven to Kate Kearneys cottage where we walked through the gap of dunloe, lots of uphill walks but plenty of scenic points to stop, rest and take some photos. Walked the 7 miles to Lord Brandons Cottage, had some tasty soup and went to the boats. (Cash only)
9 people on a boat that holds 12 during covid times, seems risky. I felt bad for the boat captain when I mentioned this because I wasn't comfortable with how close we were to others not from the same household, so he insisted everyone wore masks and provided us all with sanitizer, which in fairness was enough but on the other boat that left at the same time, zero people were wearing masks, maybe nobody on board that boat felt the need to say it but I wouldn't have been comfortable. Overall a great day, very friendly tour guides, nice refreshing walk. 40euro seems a little steep for the tour we had but I understand prices being high right now with tourist numbers being way down.

I loved how go with the flow the tour was, and how accommodating they were. DEFINITELY pack more layers than you need, it was very cold and rainy, but nonetheless the scenery was so beautiful you forget. Our boat driver was the absolute best, so funny and knowledgeable about the area, knew we were in very capable hands!

Days like this

This has to be one of the best tours in Europe. Thank you Dero Tours!
You are picked up and dropped back to your accomodation in town so you can relax and forget the logistics. At Kate Kearney’s you walk( or take a pony and trap )through some of the most magnificent scenery anywhere.A Kerry friend says it’s the place that God made when he was in a good humour! We walked and enjoyed-the traditional Irish weather ( bright spells with scattered showers )and marvelled at the beauty of the landscape.
You need to be prepared for two hours as will be stopping every five minutes to take pictures.
And then you get on the boat at The Lord Brandon cafe..and if you’re lucky you have a boatman as wise and funny and skilful as we had.
Dux is a young guide steeped in tradition and respect for the environment and his knowledge of the place was encyclopaedic. You go through the streams and channels to the great lakes and end at Ross Castle where the bus picks you and takes you back to reality! What a day!

we were 10 minutes late due to traffic issues, we’re going to charge is extra money to get the next trip and we had to purchase buggy ride tickets which would have brought the additional toll cost to $80 a person and wouldn’t refund our money. Wether would have prevented a boat ride anyway still no refund. Don’t do this just do the buss tour.

We purchased the trip through Booking.com and it failed to mention the 6 mile hike to get to the boat ride but we were pleasantly surprised to find the jaunty rides upon arrival. Gary and his horse, Buck Rogers, were our guides- it was enjoyable with several spots for us to get out take pictures as well as walk steep inclines to give the horse a break. Lunch of soup & sandwich was good. The best part of the day was the boat ride - Claire (local gal with a love for the park and it’s preservation) was an excellent guide and we even got to see 2 rare eagles.

We equally enjoyed the walk and boat trip. The scenery was spectacular. Dermot who took us by boat to Ross's castle was a great guide explaining about the different areas of the national park as we went by. It was lovely to see the park from the water. The trip was well organised by Deros and I could see doing the same tour next time we are I Killarney.

We had a fabulous day overall.
We were a little bit put off at the beginning by the realisation that it wasn’t guided through the gap of Dunloe if you decided to walk but in fairness it was very easy to navigate.
Main issue we had is timing - trip seems geared towards taking a haunting car. We walked but were a bit stressed out as we were told last boat left at 2 and we would be left behind!! We made it but the trip was not an enjoyable stroll - more of a made dash!
However the boat trip was amazing.
Make sure you travel with Dux. He’s passionate knowledgeable and all round great craic! The highlight of the trip.

Deros Tours is the way to go for day tours! Efficient, timely and friendly service. We decided not to hike and opted for the Jaunting Carts, Pa & Liam and their horse Happy were the best. Knowledgeable and funny, they made our experience great!
