- nealh5220 contributionsAn Experience of a Lifetime! Thank you, Mr. Ducie! The history, the culture, architecture, nature, the essence of Ireland...John knows it all and taught us with infectious passion and enthusiasm. Over the span of a week and a bit, he guided my family and I across the island, from Dublin to Kilkenny, Killarney and Adare, the Boyne Valley and Wicklow Mountains, and the old family stomping grounds of Cahersiveen and Rathvilly on truly one of the greatest vacation experiences of my life! Can't wait to return to the Emerald Isle!Written July 1, 2024
- Jabeen19720 contributionsFamily Found!John had previously done some genealogical research for my family so when I was planning a trip to Ireland, I sought him out. I was hoping to visit the area where my relatives lived and emigrated from and (best case scenario) find family! He picked us up at our hotel, he was professional, informative, had done research & took us to County Cavan. It was a great day! Visited churches, cemeteries, & actually found family. Would highly recommend John!Written September 28, 2023
- DMaeB0 contributionsNeolithic and moreThis was a private tour to the Newgrange archeological sites. John, the guide and driver picked me up at my hotel door and we headed towards Slane. We saw the castle through the gates as it was closed. We then proceeded towards the archeological site. John provided a wealth of information the study of the area. When we arrived at the information center he escorted me through on the exhibits and gave interesting background on the displays. The tours of Newgrange and Knowth were provided by the agency. After the tour, John was there to meet me and took me to see the Celtic crosses at Monasterboice John is extremely well informed about the history of the area and explained the carvings on the crosses in great detail. He also talked about people seeking their information on their Irish ancestry and how challenging that can be for people to research. I came away from this wonderful tour with my dream of seeing Newgrange and Knowth met-and so much more about Irish history than I expected. John is a true scholar.Written September 16, 2023

- 759carld0 contributionsGame of Thrones tour to Northern IrelandDitto to all the previous reviews. John is the best you can find. This is my second trip to Dublin and I did not hesitate in utilizing his services for second time. My son and I took the all day Game of Thrones tour to Northern Ireland. He enlightened me, who knew nothing about GOT, and chatted back and forth with my son with lines from GOT. The stops were well described with a perfect amount of detail. He is amazing at his craft and I have already booked him for next April when I return.Written July 6, 2023
- 362debbiem0 contributionsJohn Ducie is an Outstanding tour guide!John was an extraordinary guide! He was prompt, prepared, engaging, insightful, pleasant and so very knowledgeable. If you are considering any form of a genealogy tour around Ireland, our family gives John Ducie the highest possible ranking! If circumstances allow, we will call on him again!Written July 2, 2023
- dhbwelsh0 contributionsFull day tour of our heritage homelandJohn did an unbelievable job researching our family's founder that left Waterford during the potato famine in 1850. We didn't even have a middle initial and he had a common name. Despite this, John found our ancestors back to the 1300s, including a castle, church where the family founder is buried in the floor, and the family homes when he left in 1850. In addition, he found the gravestones in two different cemeteries. We visited 3 cemeteries and the county that he was from. The van was comfortable. John provided a full day of touring that was well worth the price. He is the best I have ever found on the history of Ireland. He had many delightful stories along the way and has a good sense of humor that makes the trip more enjoyable. Without him, I would have never found our history. MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. I am a professor and his knowledge is unmatched.Written June 27, 2023
- Road2588660 contributionsTwo days full of beauty and knowledge! We spent two days with John. The first day we visited the Boyne Valley (New Grange, Hill of Tara, Monasterboice.) The second we visited the Wicklow Valley, Powerscourt Gardens, Glendalough, and the absolutely gorgeous drive there and back.( I could have spent a full day at each of these sites.) John is friendly and professional. He is knowledgeable about history, archeology, horticulture, literature, genealogy, pop culture and more. His choices for lunch were excellent. I highly recommend John's tours .Written May 23, 2023

- Tuscanysoccer0 contributionsIf you want to experience authentic Ireland and truly understand its history, we give John Ducie a 5 star ratingWith 5+ days touring Ireland with John, you'll gain an authentic understanding of Ireland's history, while also fully experiencing the country's culture and beauty. We preferred a more immersive experience rather than choosing to see every possible sight -- and John helped us narrow our focus and then shared his expertise on nearly every facet of the country. He recommended excellent restaurants, and also the Castlewood and Heaton's in Dingle, both providing an amazing unique small hotel experience in Dingle, Ireland. IWe stayed at Castlewood, our friends stayed next door at Heaton's -- both are owned and operated by the Heaton family. We reviewed the Castlewood separately and give it our highest reviews -- simply amazing). John's pride in his home country and the Irish shine through, with indepth knoweldge in nearly every facet of Ireland's past and life in Ireland. He monitored the later October weather closely to optimize our experience, well recognizing that experiencing certain vistas required sufficiently clear skies. He adapted to our appetites/culinary tastes, demonstrated extremely safe driving skills, and made certain that we had the level of information we required when deciding whether to forego a particular activity (e.g., did we wish to tour a particular castle or manor?). Thanks to John, we fell in love with this breathtaking country and its people. Indeed, Ireland's beauty is surpassed only by the extraordinary and friendly Irish people who make every visitor feel welcome and at home.Written October 31, 2022
- PVP0010 contributionsOutstandingOur party of four booked a full day tour of Powerscourt and Glendalough, including a drive through Sally Gap and terrific lunch at a beautiful Irish pub. Highly recommend John for both is intellect and driving skills around the Irish countryside.Written July 28, 2022

The tour was good, we learned a lot about Ireland and took a visit to the Cathedral, Trinity College, castle and had lunch at the Oldest pub. We then took the Guinness tour. John was very informative and very proud of his country.

Can't say enough about John and his superb knowledge of everything. John was very accommodating. We were on a cruise and were tendered in to the port near Dublin. John met us and was very nice. He offered to acquire tickets to venues before hand so we didn't waste anytime waiting in lines for tickets. He even provided us all water for the tour. Other reviews talk about his knowledge. That's so true and he possessed deep knowledge on the sights we visited. I highly recommend hiring John for any of this tours.

We are just now packing our bags and are off tomorrow morning. What an amazing trip. We booked through Kennedy Coaches and had the most wonderful driver, Kevin Finn. Trust me if you want the best of the best Kevin is your man. We have had many events around the globe but I gotta say this one was very special. Kev knew how to avoid the mob and get us up the Cliffs of Moher to a private parking spot. We were whisked away to so many locations only to end up in the front row, Trinity College, Book of Kells, Killarney, the Ring of Kerry just to name a few. Kevin even got us into a Michelin (nod) 5 Star restaurant named Kai in Galway, unbelievable. You simply can not match this. Look no further, Kennedy and Kevin Finn is all you need to know.

My wife and I just finished an 8 day tour of Ireland with John. We saw Ireland from coast to coast with so much in between! Be it the City of Dublin, Galway, The Cliffs of Moher, The Dingle Peninsula or the many quaint towns and villages along the way we saw it all and more. We had never been to Ireland and had no clue as to where to go, what to see or where to stay. With John's help and guidance we had a wonderful flawless experience. John's fantastic knowedlge of Irish history is a real gift that we greatly appreciated.
My wife and I highly recommend John Ducie as your tour guide for Ireland!!

John researched two of our ancestors who left Ireland in the 1750's. There are not many records from that era unless your ancestor was rich or a criminal. John tracked the family name and connected it to the area where the family name was or could now be found. We visited multiple sites and John explained what was happening before and after our ancestors left. We were unable to make direct connections with ancestors but we have an appreciation of where they lived, what life was like for them, what caused them to leave and who was in control of the region. We highly recommend John as a tour guide.

John picked up us in Dublin from our cruise ship, and took us to Belfast and the Titanic
Museum. It was a great day, John is so knowledgeable about the history of Ireland and really explained it well. He kept us well entertained for the whole day.
His vehicle was immaculate and a pleasure to ride in and he had water for us for the trip. Couldn't have asked for a better guide or a better day. Thank you John. Happy to recommend him to any people looking for tours.
He is also very knowledgeable in history in general and economics. He is a very well rounded person and a pleasure to spend the day with.

We were with John for two days. He took the time to research my family tree and planned a stop to where they likely lived in the 1850s. He is full of knowledge and it was a pleasure to meet him.

Like the other reviews, we found John to be a walking encyclopedia of history. Our conversation took us to topics outside of Dublin (which any discussion of the history of Ireland requires), and he was still just as fluent and informed about regional and world history as he was with Dublin proper.
He made an observation that one can differentiate between a true, trained tour guide and an amateur, because the latter is more of a comedian who tries to make the tourist stay laughing so they won’t be asking questions. I can guarantee you, John is the real deal. Very friendly and accommodating in that when one of our planned stops became unavailable, he found other places that were just as interesting.

I don't know but I would guess one would be available as our tour guide is very accommodating and has one of the top ratings in his profession. So, I'm sure he can produce one.
