Just returned from the castles and kingdom small group tour. An excellent mix of activity with travel. Andrew our guide was great . He went out of his way to make sure our expectations were exceeded. The itinerary was flexible enough so adjustments could be made to exposes us to the best Ireland had to offer. Accomadations were spotless and friendly. The scenery was spectacular. Loved the small group aspect. Vagabond staff was very responsive to any questions and planning assistance. Would highly recommend. The people of Ireland were wonderful.

Abbyglen Castle Hotel. Firstrate accomadations, The owner was entertaining and well versed on the castle and Clifden history.
dinner was awesome as well! The weather was very cooperative. only one rainy day, but bring a rain coat
Our guide, Sian, was wealth of information. She must have kissed the Blarney stone herself, as she always had a bit of the history of where we were. Non stop orator.
As this was our 50th aniversary, Vagabond left several surprise gifts along our stays, which we enjoyed and apprieciated.. The group size was only 13 people, all of who were very nice and first time travelerslike us

I am so happy we decided to book a tour of Ireland with Vagabond Tours. We wanted the perks of being on a small group tour and being able to travel those narrow Irish roads to truly see "Ireland". Vagabond did not disappoint! Our guide Brian was so knowledgeable, funny, a great story teller and singer, his upbeat personality and knowledge of history made the trip one of the best tours I've had in Europe. It was so much fun to meet our fellow passengers, the friendly people of Ireland and especially loved talking to the locals in the pubs. Highlights included Blarney Castle and it's gardens, sheep dog demonstration and feeding the baby lambs, Healy Pass, horse drawn ride in Killarney National Park, and finally all of the pubs!

Hi Sherri, thanks very much for taking the time to leave a great 5 star review.
Small group is definitely the way to go, the fun is in the narrow roads! Getting off the beaten track is essential to see the real Ireland. The best thing about being on a small group tour is being able to sit back and relax while we take care of the details.
We're delighted you had a great time with Brian, he's a fantastic guide and a great addition to the Vagabond team. It's great to hear that you got on well with your fellow guests and mixed with the locals.
Thanks again and hopefully we'll get to see you again soon!

We loved our trip to Ireland and I can't capture all the reasons it was special. The beauty, the tour guides (we had Brian then Mark because of scheduling issues) who were fun and educational, sang songs and recited poetry, and the places we visited were all wonderful.

As American citizens, we decided that driving on the left side of the road, navigating, and trying to enjoy the scenery was not the way we wanted to tour Ireland. We are so glad we chose Vagabond to introduce us to Ireland. Having only 14 people on our tour allowed us the opportunity to customize the stops, ask questions along the way and get to know our fellow passengers. We enjoyed both of our guides, Darien and Andrew. Both guides were raised in Ireland and shared an amazing amount of history and personal stories. We especially enjoyed stops at the sheep farm, our stay at the castle, the drive along Slea Head, and of course the Blarney Castle and Cliffs of Moher. So many photo ops! Many roads are narrow and winding so we were very happy to leave the driving to the pros. Don't hesitate to book with Vagabond!

Hi there,
Thanks very much for taking the time to leave an amazing 5 star review, we really appreciate it.
That's the beauty of small group tours! You get to sit back, relax and enjoy your vacation. We're delighted you enjoyed your time with both Darran and Andrew, they are fantastic guides. Our guides are super passionate about Ireland and want you to leave loving it as much as we do. It's great to hear you enjoyed all of your stops. It's important to head off the beaten track to see the real Ireland as well as the bigger more touristy areas.
Thanks again, we hope to see you again soon!

What an amazing trip that exceeded my wife & my expectations. Beautiful country and friendly people. The guides were very knowledgable and friendly. The airline lost my wife's luggage & I'm convinced we would have never seen it if not for Vagaguide Darin. Guide Andrew gave us a personal tour one morning before everyone woke up. What a great sense of humour. If you go to Ireland, go Vagabond!

This was a fantastic trip. Our guide Tim was amazing. I saw much more than I thought I would and would not go back to large group tours again. With all the pressures of Covid and the requirements to get back into the USA, this tour company can be trusted.

This is ABSOLUTELY the BEST way to see Ireland! The small group (we had 11) van allows you to go to places big busses cannot access. Our drive/guide, Edwina, was everything we could have asked for and more! She’s very skilled, knowledgeable, fun, funny, friendly, and helpful. We had enough time to visit on scheduled stops without being rushed or trying to kill time. Each hotel was different and all were very nice. My husband was in a manual wheelchair, and he was accommodated and able to enjoy the trip in comfort. We met 9 strangers that felt like family by the end of the tour. I would 1000% travel with them again!

Thank you for your kind review, Shannon. We always aim for our guests to leave Ireland loving it as much as do. And in your case, it seems Edwina and the whole team have absolutely achieved this.
We are especially appreciative that you and your husband visited us in Ireland off the back of a challenging year for tourism. Thank you for the effort!
We would be delighted to welcome you back to Ireland again in the future.

My wife and I went on this wonderful 7-day tour this past September with very good friends to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Our total group was fifteen travelers leaving Dublin to explore Southern Ireland. The best part of our experience turned out to be our incredible guide Andrew. He made our week so enjoyable due to his great personality, cleaver wit, and genuine love of Ireland. Our group really enjoyed his historical information, extra efforts, precise driving, personal touches, and high energy each day as we explored the unique sights on our tour. It was amazing how much we covered and experienced in so many different cities, towns, and villages during our time in Ireland.
We would definitely recommend Vagabond Tours to our friends, and would certainly like to go again and take the Northern Ireland tour. We would want Andrew to guide us through all that amazing part of Ireland as well. Vagabond runs a first class operation. Their comfortable Mercedes vans allow you to relax and enjoy the countryside while they do the driving and daily planning. We look forward to our next Irish adventure!

This was our first group tour, and our first visit to Ireland. The tour exceeded our expectations. There were a lot of wonderful stops, including some with more time to explore - that is obvious by looking at the itinerary. Our tour guide, Pat, really made the trip special which seemed to be the general consensus amongst our entire group. His knowledge and way of sharing the history both ancient and more recent really set the context around the sites we were visiting. I think we both came away with more knowledge and respect for the history of Ireland. We were well prepared thanks to the FAQ and tips provided by Vagabond. I would definitely go on another tour with Vagabond (including into Scotland should they expand).

I have reservations for July.... coming from the US interested in hearing what did you pack for the 7 day tour? Where there items you wished you had taken or items you should have not taken? Trying to figure how I can get everything in small suitcase ! Thanks so much for feedback!

I hope you have as much fun as we did on this tour! We went in May but according to our guide, the weather doesn’t change all that much during spring/summer. I also live in FL so the weather was chilly for us. A raincoat & comfy walking shoes are musts & I took 4 pairs of jeans, 8 t-shirts, 2 cardigans, 2 button shirts. I usually started the day with a t-shirt, a light cardigan & the raincoat but by mid day, the cardigan or the raincoat would be off. There’s no need to change for dinner so 1 outfit a day is good. There was nothing more I would’ve taken & nothing I would’ve left behind. I didn’t have any trouble getting everything in a carry-on but others on the tour took larger bags (Vagabond says up to 30” is OK). Enjoy your time in Ireland - I’m jealous & can’t wait to go back!
What is the difference of the 7 day Vagabond trip and the 7 day Driftwood Treasure Ireland trip? Is one trip more active than the other? And what about the 8 day trip? I am interested in the Southwest of Ireland.

The Vagabond tours are more active than the Driftwood tours. The Vagabond tours usually include longer hikes & maybe kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, etc. But don’t think that there’s not activity in the Driftwood tour because there is, just not as much or as intense. It looks like the 8 day tour is more along the line of the Vagabond tours. We did the 7 day Driftwood Treasure Ireland trip. It goes completely to the west side of Ireland & also covers the southern area. The overnights are in small towns which are very charming. It was incredible & we really loved it. Hope you’ll try it.
Is there free time to explore and find local restaurants? Are there opportunities to walk/hike on our own?

The tour is structured so that you make stops for lunch where you can wander off and find a place to eat, if time is restricted because of the schedule, the options are still good. For dinner, Madison explains well the choices. On some days you may arrive at your accommodation and just have time to settle in and then it's time for dinner, so you may be quite content to eat at the hotel. These offer good options and atmosphere. Dingle is a place where you can unwind a little and explore the town.
As for hiking on your own, most of the destinations allow for this and are not rigidly structured. The visit to the farm is more structured as expected but highly enjoyable. We went in April but the days would be longer in Summer. Small tour that I would highly recommend and they try to accommodate any requests you may make.
