About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- robinw1010 contributionsTrip of a Lifetime!Enough can't be said about how wonderful every single detail of the trip was, especially the part where I didn't have to do anything except pay for the trip and figure out what I wanted for dinner! This was the most relaxed I've ever been on a trip because I wasn't worried about all those pesky details, nor driving on the "wrong" side of the road :-) Jason (our Driftwood guide), the amenities, our co-travelers, and Ireland itself were all fantastic and I would 100% do this again and recommend it to others!Written September 11, 2024
- Mommamary750 contributionsMagnetic Northern Ireland 💚🇮🇪This was my second tour with Vagabond, and I couldn’t have been happier with everything!! Our guide, Shane, was knowledgeable and so personable. The trip itself was absolutely amazing. Everything was perfectly planned out for us, from our outings to where we slept each night. I HIGHLY recommend Vagabond/Driftwood Tours!!!Written September 9, 2024
- mbrooks8090 contributionsStunning Ireland! What a memorable tour of Ireland, thanks to Vagabond Tours and our great guide, Paddy! We took the 11-day Driftwood tour that focused on Irish culture & history, castles, gardens and spectacular scenery. The staff at Vagabond were so helpful in preparing us for the trip and the itinerary included well-known sites as well as hidden gems that we would have missed had we traveled on our own. Clearly much thought has been given to planning the tours, down to timely ‘rest’ stops, traditional music as we drove, restaurant recommendations, and shopping tips. The Black Cab tour of Belfast was enlightening and the visit to Bridgette & Seamus's sheep farm where we fed baby sheep and held baby goats was great fun. The accommodations were of good quality and the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. And we were fortunate to have an interesting group of fellow travelers with us. We have done a fair amount of European traveling, planning our own trips. Vagabond has won us over to the small group tour experience and we would highly recommend Vagabond Tours to friends and others. Slainte!Written September 7, 2024
- 674edwinag0 contributionsBest trip ever!Wonderful adventure actively seeing and experiencing a lot of Ireland. Our tour guide/driver was a wealth of knowledge and energy. Accommodations, food, tours within the tour, and flexibility enhanced the experience.Written September 6, 2024
- Marianne R0 contributionsExceeded expectationsI went with my two adult son's and 2 friends. We met wonderful people on the bus from Philly and Omaha. First, I'd like to thank our beautiful and fun tour guide, Roisin. She was the heart of the tour. She brought us all together as a group. Roisin was an excellent driver who took us to off the path places. She was a wealth of knowledge in Irish history, so we learned a lot. I felt safe and cared for during this trip. Next was the amazing scenery and stops. We saw and experienced Ireland in a way I didn't expect. The music sessions, Rosin's fiddle, flute and piano playing was a welcome bonus. The bus was comfortable took lots of comfort stops. The hotels and B&B's we stayed in were all great. I enjoyed the nice breakfasts before taking off for the day. For me and my son's it was a trip of a lifetime. Amazingly, I can't think of a thing to complain about. It was perfect! I'm thinking of coming back one day for the music tour. Thank's Rosin and Vagabond.Written September 6, 2024
- N6588URjeffs0 contributionsOutstandingWe started with high expectations and somehow Vagabond exceeded them. Our driver/guide Lisa was the perfect to shepherd us around Ireland. From the guest perspective it all ran smoothly and we saw things and had adventure's that you wouldn't have on your own. Vagabond is a superior company, you wont be disappointed.Written September 6, 2024
- nicoledA24VU0 contributionsBest Tour Group In Ireland!!This company is one of the BEST that I have ever had the opportunity to travel with.. 5 Stars! Firstly, their itinerary traveled the parameter of the entire Ireland. We saw everything that you would want to when you think of Ireland. Giants Causeway, Blarney Stone, Cliffs of Moher, etc etc etc. We learned SOO much from our guide, Jason. He was so knowledgeable about the places we visited, the history of the country and he always gave us tips in each and every community we visited about the best places to shop and to eat - and of course which pubs served the best Pints and had the best Traditional Irish Music. The accommodation's they set up for us along the way were ALL amazing and the vehicle that we spent 11 days in was more that comfortable for all 14 guests onboard. This Vagabond tour well exceeded my expectations and I would recommended it to ANYONE who is thinking about going to Ireland.. Maybe if you are lucky enough, you will get Jason as your guide as well - but I am sure all of the staff with this company are amazing.Written September 3, 2024
- 171nilab0 contributionsTrip of a lifetime! The Vagabond Team was exceptional from our first email inquiry through the last hour of our tour. Their thoughtful, detailed planning for the itinerary and accommodations ensured the entire trip was immensely enjoyable. The person who made our trip come to life was our remarkable guide Paddy Fahy. His obvious passion for Ireland, deep knowledge of the history, incredible driving skills!, and upbeat engaging personality made this trip of a lifetime for us. Thank you Paddy and Vagabond, it will be difficult for us to meet this high standard in future travel!Written September 2, 2024
- AzCat2250 contributionsReality was the dreamMy wife found Vagabond when doing her usual in-depth research for our first trip to Europe. Ireland was our dream trip and Vagabond/Driftwood made our dream come true. Our guide Paddy Fahy was super---knowledgeable, friendly, caring, professional. The eleven days was just right, and too short. We lucked out with generally good weather and our whole group was great, excellent traveling companions. A couple of the stops were full of tourists (yes, I know) but we understand that they have to be on any Ireland tour. But a lot of other stops were amazing and kind of out of the way. I do believe one advantage we had was that we were on one of those ginormous 50+ passenger buses, so we could take backroads and byways. We could not ask for a better experience in all aspects of our tour. Thanks so very much from this rookie traveler (no longer a rookie to Europe!).Written September 2, 2024
- 257pauletter0 contributionsTrip of a Lifetime! What a fantastic experience! The van of 15 travelers was a perfect size to see the most possible. We enjoyed our guide, Brian Murphy, as he led us around the country seeing castles, coasts, and cliffs! The accommodations were first class. Thank you, Vagabond, for a memorable experience!Written September 1, 2024
- lenathecat0 contributionsA giant taste of Ireland15 family members filled the bus for our Wild Atlantic Way 8 day tour! Brian was the best guide! He was professional, fun, and flexible. Nothing seemed to bother him. We saw lots of castles, beautiful gardens, award-winning sheep-herding, fantastic coastline views, historical sites and listened to traditional Irish music. It was the trip of a lifetime for our family. Thank you, Vagabond Tours!Written August 30, 2024
- cucat0 contributionsDrifting through the best of IrelandPaddy was our informative, compassionate, thoughtful, funny guide, full of stories. The trip exceeded our expectations. I had been to Ireland before, about 40 years ago, in our own car. Traveling in comfort with such a wonderful guide and only 13 other passengers got us into places I had never even dreamed about. The cliffs, megalithic sites, food suggestions, shopping and pub opportunities, as well as down time if needed were outstanding. There were choices, so everyone in our group could have the trip of a lifetime!Written August 30, 2024
- amyv5530 contributionsFabulous time on the Vagabond Wild Irish Rover trip with Tomas! Our trip exceeded our expectations in so many ways. Our tour guide Tomas made the trip educational and fun, we listened to some great stories and music (and he delivered the perfect amount of information and quiet time). He made sure everyone's needs were satisfied and really tried to maximize our experiences based on weather and the groups interests. The hikes were all spectacular and the visit to the Kilkee Cliffs and squeezing in some time to do the coastal walk was a favorite.Written August 29, 2024
- stanbU5161KB0 contributionsExcellent Vagabond 11-Day Discover Ireland Tour!We were on the 11-Day Discover Ireland Tour that started early in July. The staff at Vagabond/Driftwood were always very friendly and very helpful! Our initial airline flight (that we booked on our own) was cancelled and we were rebooked for the next day. This meant we were going to miss the initial pickup at the hotel for the start of our tour. When I called Vagabond and explained the situation they were able to assist me by providing information and links to the bus service from the airport to Cork and contact information for our first hotel stop. The Hotel Manager (Neil) was very helpful in finding the taxi service and coordinating our pick up at Cork so that we could link back up with our tour with a minimal loss of time. There were 4 of us with large suit cases and Neil was able to get us a van, which was already waiting for us when we got off the bus. The start of our trip could have been so much worse if it wasn't for the help of Vagabond. Once we joined the tour, our guide (Brian Murphy) was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable of not only the places we were visiting but also took us to locations that were off of the main touristy locations. We were able to get a better appreciation for the history, scenery and friendly people of Ireland. Brian was always checking in with the people on the bus to see if there were any concerns or questions. He was a very careful and a conscientious driver. Brian maneuvered our bus expertly on some of the "2 Lane" roads that would have been tight for rickshaws to pass. Brian was very friendly and caring, making sure that everyone was OK and having a good time. He even took steps to make unscheduled restroom breaks when needed. We were on the 'small group tour' and had 15 people on our bus. The hotels that were booked for our trip were of a higher quality than expected. We really enjoyed staying at the Mount Falcon Estate Hotel and wished that we could have spent another day there. I would highly recommend Vagabond and especially Brian Murphy, for a tour of Ireland.Written August 28, 2024
- Katherinekeener0 contributionsVagabond Tours are exceptionally unique way to experience Ireland. This was my 2nd tour with Vagabond, last year I did the 12 day Adventure Tour which was amazing. This year I wanted to see and learn more about Northern Ireland and did the 7 Day Magnetic North Tour. It was a small group, just 3 of us and our wonderful guide Conor is a "walking encyclopedia" when it comes to Ireland. I loved hearing the history, the legends, and stories being told by Conor in such a passionate manner. He is an excellent tour guide and a true asset to Vagabond. He was always checking to make sure we were having fun and enjoying our hotels. Even though the weather was a little unpredictable, we managed to hike, ride horses, and bike our way thru the wind and rain. It was all great fun and we all came away learning so much more than expected. I am hoping to come back next year to explore the Southern part and choosing Vagabond with exceptional guides is the only way to see the true Ireland.Written August 27, 2024

I once met a man from Wicklow; his name was Darran Keough! I can't say enough good things about Vagabond/Driftwood Tours. I prefer the small group dynamics over the large (herd mentality) tour buses any day of the week. Our guide Darran was filled with historical facts and stories about each destination we visited. He had numerous recommendations at each stop to make informed choices during our free time. Each day new and exciting things were waiting to be experienced. The weather was exceptionally dry for June, but I recommend packing a rain jacket. I enjoyed every aspect of the trip, made new friends, ate great food, and had plenty of cold pints!
Driftwood Tours is a great way to discover the beauty and culture of Ireland for the first time.

Absolutely MAGICAL!!!! My tour was beyond anything I could have imagined! Our guides, Ronin and Michael, were incredibly knowledgeable, had amazing fun stories of their own adventures, and went out of their way to accommodate the groups requests. The passion for what they do and the love of their home was incredibly evident. Our evening accommodations were top notch, everyone we met genuinely made you feel welcome! The itinerary was a nice mix of driving scenic tours, guided tours, self exploration time, and group outings. As a solo traveler I was thrilled to have time with the group and yet the time for self reflection in the most beautiful settings of the Emerald Isle. I am now a true ambassador for all tours Vagabond/Driftwood!!! I'm already planning my next tour for 2024!! Slainte!

We had 3 generations of family on a 7 day driftwood tour of Ireland. The tour was a really good blend for all generations. We had some hikes, sea kayaking, and some boating adventures for the more active. Plus a good mix of music and culture for the less active.
Brian Barry, our driver and guide, was a great story teller and could easily fill in the drive time with history or Irish Legends. He also managed our itinerary to really allow all of us to get what we wanted out of the trip and made it easy for us to relax and enjoy it.
The company did a good job of staying in touch between booking and the dates of travel and was very helpful with travel tips.
The Hotels were nice, with the highlights being the first and last nights. The bus was comfortable and in great shape. I'd recommend Ireland and this company to anyone and everyone.
I did get to golf in Ireland, and honestly, I would have rather taken the morning sea safari. If golf is your true love, go for it. But if it is just a hobby, you can have a more enjoyable round at home. The wind was wicked, and while the course was verry pretty, the actual play was nearly impossible. If you are not a scratch golfer, play the front tees and try to hit irons. Any driver up in the wind was a carnival ride.

It is great to know that the tour was a fantastic blend for the different age groups in your family. Our goal is to create memorable experiences that everyone can enjoy, and it brings us joy to know that we succeeded in doing so.
We couldn't agree more with your praise for Brian. He is indeed a skilled storyteller and has a wealth of knowledge about Irish history.

As with any tour, there were multiple parts: the size of the tour, the tour guide, the transportation, the itinerary, and the food/accommodations. This tour hit a home run in all aspects. We had 13 people on our tour, which was a very manageable size. Our tour guide, Matthew, was very personable and knowledgeable about all things Irish on our tour, from history to which pub had the best food and music. The bus was clean and comfortable, and the itinerary was well-selected, mixing old and new places with breathtaking scenes of natural beauty. All the hotels were clean and comfortable, and our included breakfasts were great. The dinners on the first and last nights were special highlights. Considering all these aspects and factoring in the reasonable price, this tour will provide many wonderful memories and is highly recommended.

I am so happy we decided to book a tour of Ireland with Vagabond Tours. We wanted the perks of being on a small group tour and being able to travel those narrow Irish roads to truly see "Ireland". Vagabond did not disappoint! Our guide Brian was so knowledgeable, funny, a great story teller and singer, his upbeat personality and knowledge of history made the trip one of the best tours I've had in Europe. It was so much fun to meet our fellow passengers, the friendly people of Ireland and especially loved talking to the locals in the pubs. Highlights included Blarney Castle and it's gardens, sheep dog demonstration and feeding the baby lambs, Healy Pass, horse drawn ride in Killarney National Park, and finally all of the pubs!
Tips to help enjoy your trip - pack light, get out of your comfort zone and immerse yourself in Ireland!

Hi Sherri, thanks very much for taking the time to leave a great 5 star review.
Small group is definitely the way to go, the fun is in the narrow roads! Getting off the beaten track is essential to see the real Ireland. The best thing about being on a small group tour is being able to sit back and relax while we take care of the details.
We're delighted you had a great time with Brian, he's a fantastic guide and a great addition to the Vagabond team. It's great to hear that you got on well with your fellow guests and mixed with the locals.
Thanks again and hopefully we'll get to see you again soon!

Just returned from a fantastic trip thanks to Edwina our guide and vagabond tours. If I could give a higher score I would. Edwina (Bid Ed) was amazing, providing great recommendations and adjustments throughout the tour to accommodate our group and ensure a great experience. We had 13 family members and the van was comfortable and spacious to accommodate all us. Great selection of hotels and stops really helped to immerse us in the beauty of Ireland and Edwina provided interesting facts and history along the way. Would highly recommend Vagabond Tours for anyone looking for a magical trip to Ireland.

Just got home from a incredible week experiencing beautiful Ireland. Traveled with friends and family and it was one of my best vacations. Vagabond planned everything perfectly. Hotels we stayed in were superb, itinerary was packed with wonderful destinations and the van we traveled in was large and roomy which made time on the road easy. Planning a trip for 15 people is not easy. However, John from Vagabond helped my sister and I along the way. Patiently I might add ;) He gave us suggestions and answered all questions. He was a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend Vagabond to everyone that wants a trip of a lifetime thru Ireland. That being said, I have to speak of our bus driver Paddy. He was phenomenal. Warm, funny, personable, He made “MADE” our trip so much more special. He went above and beyond. I think I can speak for my entire group when I say we miss him. He became a friend, one of us, as we traveled about. So as good as Vagabond Tour is, Paddy made it better.

I may have joined the tour alone, but I quickly found friends among my fellow travellers! Our group blended together so well, and I really felt a sense of camaraderie on the bus. The bus itself was comfortable and always very clean.
Our guide, Brendan, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. He made it clear from the beginning that the timelines were flexible and never made me feel like we were in a rush. He shared interesting information about the places we were visiting, and about Ireland’s culture and history more generally. He played great music that really added to the scenic drives.
Perhaps what I looked forward to most about this trip was experiencing the live traditional music. I have always loved singing and playing folk music and it was a dream come true to not only listen - but also be invited to join in at a couple of the places I went to throughout the week!
On the last night of our tour, Brendan encouraged our group to gather in the hotel bar and he invited me to lead our own spontaneous sing along! It was truly special and something I’ll never forget!
I’ll be recommending this tour to all of my family and friends. It was essentially a perfect week! Thank you for such a wonderful experience! I look forward to returning to Ireland in the future. ☺️

I can't say enough about what a remarkable experience we had on this tour. For my mom's 70th birthday, we decided on a family girls trip to visit Ireland (from Miami and California) . We're in our 30's, 40's, 60's and 70's and everyone had an incredible time. Stevie was the best guide - following the plan and also being spontaneous enough to make stops along the way based on the weather (the beach on a sunny day!) or stopping for a phenomenal view we had to see. He was always helping everyone feel comfortable, and by the end we all felt like family. The places where we stayed felt intentional and personal, we got to know the people there and the care they brought to their work. We absolutely loved it and are so grateful for what was a trip of a lifetime for us. Thank you, Vagabond!

Vagabond customized a 7 day trip for our party of 14 that combined the Driftwood van and most of the Wild Irish Rover itinerary. It was terrific, despite the very (even for Ireland!) rainy weather. Our guide, Brian B, was outstanding - he shared his love of Ireland (especially Cork!) with us and helped us to see the true heart of Ireland. We did a wide range of activities from bike riding through Killarney National Park, meeting a sheep farmer and her sheepdogs, learning to row traditional boats, going on a sea safari and seeing puffins, seals & dolphins, exploring old castles and abbeys and so much more. We loved the local accommodations and eating places. Brian is very knowledgeable and we enjoying hearing his stories and learning more about life in Ireland (past, present & future).

Do you have an opportunity to actually check out the town of Cong? My husband is a John Wayne fan.... lol We would like to walk around the town. Thanks.

Where is a good affordable place to stay the night prior to leaving on the tour?

We stayed at the Grand Canal also due to early start in the morning. Place was nice and staff very helpful. Many from our group also stayed there.

I have reservations for July.... coming from the US interested in hearing what did you pack for the 7 day tour? Where there items you wished you had taken or items you should have not taken? Trying to figure how I can get everything in small suitcase ! Thanks so much for feedback!

I hope you have as much fun as we did on this tour! We went in May but according to our guide, the weather doesn’t change all that much during spring/summer. I also live in FL so the weather was chilly for us. A raincoat & comfy walking shoes are musts & I took 4 pairs of jeans, 8 t-shirts, 2 cardigans, 2 button shirts. I usually started the day with a t-shirt, a light cardigan & the raincoat but by mid day, the cardigan or the raincoat would be off. There’s no need to change for dinner so 1 outfit a day is good. There was nothing more I would’ve taken & nothing I would’ve left behind. I didn’t have any trouble getting everything in a carry-on but others on the tour took larger bags (Vagabond says up to 30” is OK). Enjoy your time in Ireland - I’m jealous & can’t wait to go back!

What is the difference of the 7 day Vagabond trip and the 7 day Driftwood Treasure Ireland trip? Is one trip more active than the other? And what about the 8 day trip? I am interested in the Southwest of Ireland.

The Vagabond tours are more active than the Driftwood tours. The Vagabond tours usually include longer hikes & maybe kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, etc. But don’t think that there’s not activity in the Driftwood tour because there is, just not as much or as intense. It looks like the 8 day tour is more along the line of the Vagabond tours. We did the 7 day Driftwood Treasure Ireland trip. It goes completely to the west side of Ireland & also covers the southern area. The overnights are in small towns which are very charming. It was incredible & we really loved it. Hope you’ll try it.

Is there free time to explore and find local restaurants? Are there opportunities to walk/hike on our own?

The tour is structured so that you make stops for lunch where you can wander off and find a place to eat, if time is restricted because of the schedule, the options are still good. For dinner, Madison explains well the choices. On some days you may arrive at your accommodation and just have time to settle in and then it's time for dinner, so you may be quite content to eat at the hotel. These offer good options and atmosphere. Dingle is a place where you can unwind a little and explore the town.
As for hiking on your own, most of the destinations allow for this and are not rigidly structured. The visit to the farm is more structured as expected but highly enjoyable. We went in April but the days would be longer in Summer. Small tour that I would highly recommend and they try to accommodate any requests you may make.
