    Ring of Kerry
    Stop: 7 hours
We take the train from Dublin to Killarney where we onto the Railtours coach to do the Ring of Kerry. There are plenty of stops along the Ring of Kerry for morning tea, lunch and photo stops, etc. Ireland’s highest mountains are located in Kerry, and Carrantuohill – which can be seen en route – is the highest, standing at 1041 metres high. An essential part of any visit to Ireland, this tour circles the magnificent MacGillycuddy Reeks and runs through its many passes and valleys along the shores of Dingle Bay and Kenmare Bay. The natural beauty of the Ring of Kerry provides many photo opportunities, as it passes through the many picturesque villages such as Glenbeigh, Waterville and Sneem. We return via Ladies View, the famous Lakes of Killarney and through the Oakwoods of Killarney's magnificent National Park.

Our Ring of Kerry rail/bus tour on Saturday, June 11 started smoothly enough as we were met at Dublin Heuston Station by Railtours Ireland (RI) hosts, given paperwork/tickets and instructions. The instructions regarding the the return rail trip seemed more detailed than necessary, but more on that later. We were accompanied by local RI guides through a train change at Mallow and on to Killarney station where we were met and transferred to the Deros Sightseeing Tours bus.
For the bus tour portion we were loaded on a not particularly roomy full coach. Our driver/guide proved courteous, personable and knowledgeable. The scenery was spectacular, the weather good and there were adequate rest, photo and shopping stops. We also enjoyed the optional sheep dog sheep herding demonstration. Unfortunately the food related portion of the bus tour was underwhelming. Especially the lunch stop which while having a wonderful view was especially disappointing as it was rushed with unorganized seating and mediocre food.
The return trip from Killarney to Dublin proved to be most disappointing. First our transfer from the tour bus drop off back to the Killarney Station did not materialize. We made it to the station on time, but only because one intrepid member of our group took it upon herself to ask directions and lead us there on foot. Next we realized what hadn’t been said in so many words by our RI host back in Dublin was that the reason for the aforementioned detailed return instructions was we were on our own for the train trip back to Dublin. While the return route was simple enough we learned that supposedly reserved seats were already taken and realized that if something went wrong we had no RI representative to turn to for help. Using our tour as the standard this reviewer thinks that Railtours Ireland “First Class!” claim is clearly an aspiration yet to be achieved.

John was our guide from Dublin to Killarney where we met the tour bus. It was very easy to find John at Heuston Station in Dublin. He made the train ride seem very fast by pointing out some interesting sights along the way. Our guide for the bus ride through The Ring of Kerry was Bart. He was excellent as well. All in all it was a great day and I recommend this tour highly.

We loved everything about this tour! Joe and Shelia, our guides, couldn't have been more friendly and informative. We enjoyed the stunning views of the Ring of Kerry with many stops for photos. The tour went to a Kerry Bog village and sheepherding demonstration which we both very much enjoyed. The small fees for these were well worth it. There were stops for snacks and a stop for lunch at a cliffside restaurant with unbelievable views at every window. The train and bus were clean and we were able to access Wifi easily. Our guides became like friends to us by the end of the tour. The Ring of Kerry turned out to be our favorite place in Ireland!

I absolutely loved this tour. The long day was scary at first but it was so amazing that I would have stayed longer if possible. David was the guide from Dublin on the trains and on the bus driving around. He was incredible!!! You could tell he loved what he did and chatted with all of us for the majority of the train ride. It was a small group so we got to know the other people on the tour as well. He shared some great stories along the drive which made it really enjoyable. The bus made stops frequently enough that it didn’t feel like you were sitting all day. Overall absolutely recommend!

Uncomfortable experience as the bus broke down and we spent a portion of the day on the side of the road. Due to the bus breakdown, we were forced to take the late train back to Dublin. The train broke down too and we had to take a bus back to Dublin and arrived well after midnight. I have reached out for a partial refund and the company stopped responding. A majority of the tour is spent on the bus, we had less then 90 minutes exploring on foot for the entire day.

The coach ride was fine, but it is an extremely long day. Have to take 2 trains from Dublin to get the coach in Killarney to start the actual tour. It was a gorgeous day, and the scenery was lovely. Highlight of the tour is the sheepherding demonstration. Absolutely wonderful! Overall the tour was great, but it is very dependent upon the weather, and you have to be up for a 16-hour day. But if you are, do it!

Highly Recommended! Our starting guide John(volunteer) was really informative and quite passionate about his work. He had a lot of stories to tell and the train ride was fun!
Our bus guide Batt in the ring of Kerry was too good and really fun. There were singing songs and all kinds of stories.
It was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a very long time!
If you are looking to visit Kerry and are short on time this tour is very highly recommended!

My wife and I just finished the tour a few hours ago. We were a bit concerned about the overall length of the trip, and maybe even a little nervous. Our morning started out rough, and after a bad experience checking out of our hotel, we nearly missed the train. Luckily we made it with under 5 minutes to go. We were greeted by our guide John (who was just amazing) waiting outside of the train car for us until the last minute with our tickets. He reassured us that all was well, and that we had made it successfully. From there on, the trip was a great and very educational experience for both of us. John took the time to talk with all members of the group, and answered any and all questions. Before we knew it, we were in Killarney and ready to board a bus with a wealth of knowledge we hadn’t had a few hours prior. The bus tour was incredible. Plenty of stops, and activities. The day seemed to move very quickly. Before you knew it, we were back in Killarney and waiting on a “long train ride back to Dublin”.. It was here that John made the day even better. The ride home was as informative (if not more) than the trip itself. Any questions the group had were addressed and answered. We learned more about Ireland than I had ever imagined possible. We would 100% suggest anyone to try this tour out. Thanks Brian… Thanks Railtours.. And thanks to John for seeing that everyone was accounted for, and kept more than informed with what the day was to bring.

We left Dublin by train and arrived in Killarney where we were deiven by coach all around the Ring of Kerry. Our driver, Bat was fabulous. He showed us all the best places, stopped multiple times for photos and took us to a great place for lunch. Then we took the train back to Dublin. Sally met us and escorted us back to Dublin. She is wonderful. I highly recommend this trip.
